7、he main is higher than thepressure normally provided to the customer (that is, higher thanutilization pressure).3.2.4 installerthe person(s) or body installing the opticalfiber system within the natural gas pipeline.3.2.5 local distribution company (LDC)the owner/operator of the natural gas piping s
8、ystem within a specificgeographic area.3.2.6 low-pressure distribution systema distribution sys-tem in which the gas pressure in the main is substantially thesame as the pressure provided to the customer.3.2.7 maina distribution line that serves as a commonsource of supply for more than one service
9、line.3.2.8 maximum actual operating pressurethe maximumpressure that occurs during normal operations over a period ofone year.3.2.9 maximum allowable operating pressure (MAOP)themaximum pressure at which a pipeline or segment of a pipelinemay be operated under CFR 49, Part 192.3.2.10 optical fiber c
10、ablea cable formed of one or morestrands of optical fiber for transmission of data, video, audio,voice, and other information.3.2.11 optical fiber systema group of components thatcomprises the elements necessary to enable Optical FiberCable to be installed, maintained, and operated inside a gaspipel

Summary of Practice4.1 The optical fiber systems in existing gas pipelines shallbe designed and installed so that they have a minimal effect on
18、pipeline performance, and current and future gas deliverycapability, and no effect on their structural integrity. Theirdesign and installation shall also allow for the safe and efficientoperation and maintenance of the pipeline, and provide for thesafe and efficient operation of the optical fiber sy
19、stem. The firststep in the evaluation process is an analysis of the capacity ofthe gas piping to confirm available capacity for the installationof an optical fiber system. The ultimate success of theinstallation and operation of both the optical fiber and gaspipeline systems depends upon the proper
