8、Engineering Bulletin establishes requirements for. qnnecting one and two line terminal equipment to the public telephone net ia premises wiring, prior to the publication o a more comprehensive-EIA ndad Stand- ar? on “Premises Wiring for Voice Telephone Terminals“. 1.3 This Engineering Bulletin fulfA

10、dustry-wide basis to estab sh compatible wiring arrangements. 1.4 In accordance with EIA Engineering Publication EP-7, two categories of performance standards are specified, mandatory and advisory, The rnandatoiy performance criteria are designated by the word “shqll“; advisgry are designated by the
11、 words “should“, “may“, or “desirabie“ (which aye used interchangeably in this standard). The mandatory criteria generally apply to safety *and proteSc- tion, signaling, and compatibility. 12、 3.7 Connecting Block O A device used for connecting premises wiring. 3.8 Dial Light _. A small light bulb- powered by low voltage used to illuminate a telephone set dial. 3.9 Drive Rings A device used to hold premises wiring in place where appearance is not a factor. The nail in a drive ringis driv
13、en into the supporting surface and the ring is open to permit placing of the wires. Drive rings shall be used at least six (6) feet from the floor so that its nail will not present a safety hazard. 3.10 Drop Wire Drop wire is used to extend telephone service to the premises; it may be either aerial
14、or buried. 3.11 Ground Part of an electrical path or connection that terminates on a grounding system or ground rod in the earth. 3.12 Ground Connection * Metallic paths (wires, rods and clamps) which connect electrical circuits to earth ground, usually for protective reasons. 3.13 Ground Rods A sol
15、id metal rod or pipe which is driven into the earth to provide an earth ground for electrical circuits. . 3.14 Hardwired . The term “hardwired“ as applied to voice terminal equipment means the connection of the equipment line cord to a connecting block with screw temina- tions. Under the FCC Registr
16、ation Program for terminal equipment, anly that equipment which was connected to the public telephone network in a “hardwired“ manner prior to July 1, 1979, may remain.connected dr be reconnected in such a fashion. See “Modular. 3.15 Modular The term “modular“, as used in this document, means the co
17、nnection of the voice terminal equipment line cord to th premises wiring by means of .a plug and jack arrangement. 18、al equipment or premises wiring and the public telephone network. -. 3.17 Non-metallic Sheath Cable An assembly of insulated conductors that has an outer sheath of non-metallic material. 3.18 Open W i r ing Commercial ac powgr wires which are insulated but do hot have an outer protective jacket. 3.1

Premises is the discrete real property on or within a single building owned, leased or controlled by a customer of the public telephone network. 3.20 Premises Wiring Wiring that distributes telephone service within the premises beyond the Network Interface. 3.21 Protector A device used

Equipment Terminal equipment which is registered for connection to the public telephone network in accordance with Part 68 of the FCC Rules and Regulations. If a terminal device has been FCC registered it will have a registration number permanently affixed
22、to it. 3.24 Tip and Ring ,. As used within this document, tip and ring refer to the wires $n a two wire telephone oircuit. One end is U-shaped or placement over the wire. The other end contains a tab which is affixed to t
