SCOPEThe SAE J526 Standard covers electric-resistance welded single-wall low-carbon steel pressure tubing intended for general automotive, refrigeration, hydraulic, and other similar applications requiri

8、ng tubing of a quality suitable for bending, flaring, beading, forming, and brazing. Material produced to this specification is not intended to be used for single flare applications due to the potential leak path that would be caused by the ID weld bead or scarfed region. Assumption of risks when us

9、ing this material for single flare applications shall be defined by agreement between the producer and tube purchaser. The material produced to this specification is intended to service pressure applications where severe forming and bending is not required. As this material may exhibit mechanical pr

10、operties that reduce some desired forming characteristics versus SAE J356, the severity of the forming requirements of the finished assembly should be considered when utilizing material produced to this specification. 2. MANUFACTUREThe tubing shall be made from a single strip of steel shaped into a tubular form, the edges of which are joined and fused by electric resistance welding. After welding,

24、 the outside flash shall be removed to provide a smooth round surface and the tubing shall be processed in such a manner as to produce a finished product that shall meet all requirements of this document. Typically, this type of tubing is available in both coiled and straight condition. 4. DIMENSION

25、S AND TOLERANCESThe tolerances applicable to tubing outside diameter are shown in Table 1. The tolerances applicable to tubing wall thickness are shown in Table 2. Particular attention should be given to areas adjacent to the weld to insure against thin spots and/or sharp indentations. SAE INTERNATI

29、MANUFACTURING STANDARDS5.1 StraightnessTubing produced as straight lengths shall be straightened to a tolerance of 1.0 mm over a 1000 mm length. This tolerance may be waived if agreed upon between the producer and purchaser as documented in the purchase agreement. This tolerance does not apply to tu

30、bing supplied as coiled product. 5.2 Tubing End ConditionThe tubing shall be produced using normal mill cut-off practices, e.g. punch-cut ends, double cut ends or rotary-cut ends. Tube end distortion must be minimized; end condition shall not affect normal re-cut processes performed by the end user.

31、 Extraordinary end cut processing requirements shall be defined by agreement between the producer and purchaser. 5.3 Surface ConditionSurface imperfections such as handling marks, die marks, or shallow pits shall not be considered injurious defects provided such imperfections are not detrimental to

32、the function of the tubing and these imperfections are within the tolerances specified for diameter and wall thickness. The removal of such surface imperfections is not required. A slight weld bead and splatter on the inside surface shall be permissible but must be held to the minimum consistent wit

33、h good welding practice. Special weld bead requirements shall be defined by agreement between the producer and purchaser.SAE INTERNATIONAL J526 NOV2016 Page 5 of 66. MATERIAL.Tubing shall be made from low-carbon, flat rolled sheet steel conforming to the chemical composition shown in Table 3. The st

34、eel shall be made by the basic oxygen or electric furnace process. A ladle analysis of each heat shall be made to determine the percentages of the elements specified. The chemical composition thus determined shall be reported to the purchaser, or representative, if requested. If a check analysis is

40、greement.9. TEST CERTIFICATESA certificate of compliance to the performance requirements shall be furnished to the purchaser by the producer if requested in the purchase agreement. The producer shall be able to certify that each heat lot and unique production run of tubing complies with the performa

41、nce requirement.10. CLEANLINESSThe inside of tubing shall be clean and free from any contamination that will impair the processing or serviceability of the tubing. Additional cleanliness level expectations shall be agreed upon between the producer and purchaser and documented in the purchase agreeme

42、nt.11. CORROSION PROTECTIONThe inside and outside of the finished tubing shall be protected against corrosion during shipment and normal storage. If a corrosion preventive compound is applied, it shall be such that after normal storage periods it can readily be removed by cleaning agents normally us

43、ed in manufacturing. A specific corrosion resistant coating may be specified by the purchaser.12. PACKAGINGThe tubing shall be packaged in such a way to allow it to be transported and stored, with normal care, without being damaged. Any special packaging requirements shall be by agreement between th

44、e producer and the purchaser13.
