12、ng requirements 5 12 Qualification test procedures 6 1 Scope This standard covers the electrical and mechanical interchangeability of nonlocking type photocontrols for mounting within a roadway or off-roadway luminaire, herein called “controls.” These controls are commonly called “button” photocontr

17、s 4.1 Sealing A sealing means shall be provided between the control and the luminaire or mounting enclosure so as to prevent the entrance of rain, dust, and vermin. The sealing method must allow replacement of the control. 2ANSI C136.24-2004 (R2010) 4.2 Mounting screws Mounting screws, if used must

18、be captive to the control. 4.3 Mounting position Controls must be capable of mounting in any direction or position. An external light shield may be required for proper operation. 4.4 Dimensions The control must meet the mechanical and limiting dimensions given in Figure 1, unless specified by the us

19、er. The location of the wiring, depicted below in Figure 1, is a typical configuration. 20、-2004 (R2010) 5 Leads 5.1 Lead markings Leads from the control shall be marked and color-coded as follows: a) LINE, black b) NEUTRAL or COMMON, white. c) LOAD, red NOTE For 240 V controls, the NEUTRAL or COMMON lead may be yellow. 5.2 Lead length Lead length shall be 6 in. (15 cm) minimum. 5.3 Lead

21、size Leads shall be at least 18 AWG, rated for 105C or higher, and rated for 600 V. 6 Quick connect terminals Quick connect terminals, if provided instead of leads, shall be as follows: a) 0.187 in. x 0.020 in., male terminals on the controls b) Marked LINE, LOAD, and NEUTRAL or COMMON 7 Labels Labe

22、ls on controls shall provide, as a minimum, the following information: a) Voltage rating b) Load rating in watts or volt-amperes c) Frequency in hertz d) Manufacturers name and model number e) Manufacturers recommended maximum operating temperature. This shall be at least 70C. f) If surge protection

23、 is claimed, label shall say, “SURGE PROTECTED.” 8 Safeguards and protective requirements 8.1 Grounding Provisions shall be made for grounding exposed metallic enclosures or parts. 8.2 Insulation Electrical insulation between current carrying components and any metallic portion of the control, withi

24、n its mounting, shall meet the dielectric withstand test requirements given in Clause 12.6. 8.3 Surge protection When surge protection is claimed, the control shall pass the test requirements in Clause 12.3. 4ANSI C136.24-2004 (R2010) 8.4 Temperature rise When the control is operated at its rated lo

25、ad, voltage, temperature, and frequency, the temperature rise of any component shall not injure or render inoperative any material of component part. 9 Environmental conditions Markings, materials, and finishes used in construction of the control shall individually and as a system be resistant to ro

26、adway and off-roadway atmospheric conditions, including the corrosive and erosive actions of service encountered in industrial and seaboard areas. 10 Load ratings 10.1 Minimum load ratings The control shall have a minimum load rating of both 500 W incandescent and 750 Volt-amperes ballast. Volt-ampe

27、re loads consist of lamp wattage and ballast losses and may be at a power factor as low as 0.4. 10.2 Controls rated 120 V and 240 V A control rated 120 V must be capable of switching the rated Volt-ampere load when such a load includes a 60 F ac capacitor between control LOAD and NEUTRAL or COMMON.

28、For 240 V controls, the capacitor shall be 30 F. See Clause 12.4. 10.3 Controls with quick connect terminals If a control has quick connect terminals, rated load shall be 1200 VA maximum. 11 Operating requirements 11.1 The control shall turn ON within the limits of +100% and 50% of its calibrated or

29、 claimed light level at rated voltage and frequency at: a) An ambient temperature range of 25 5C and a voltage range of 10 % of rated voltage. b) A case temperature of -40 to +70C. c) Relative humidity up to 96%. 11.2 Controls shall respond only to light entering the designated or obvious window. 11

30、.3 Turn ON shall be 10.7-32 Lux (1.0-3.0 Fc) or as specified by the user. 11.4 The ratio of turn OFF to turn ON level shall not exceed 10:1 and the maximum turn OFF shall not exceed 160 Lux (15 Fc). A ratio of 3:1 or less is desirable and may be specified by the user to reduce burning hours and redu

31、ce attached load energy consumption. 5ANSI C136.24-2004 (R2010) 12 Qualification test procedures 12.1 Humidity test The control assembly shall be exposed to 96% relative humidity at 50C for 168 hours and operated at rated voltage and load. Controls shall be illuminated for 12 hours at 1070 Lux (100

32、Fc) and 12 hours below 1 Lux (0.1 Fc) for 7 cycles. Within 1 minute of removal from the humidity, the control shall be subjected to the dielectric withstand test described in Clause 12.6. Within 15 minutes from removal from humidity, the control shall meet the light level requirements of Section 11.

33、 12.2 Rain test The control assembly shall be subjected to the rain tightness test described in ANSI/UL773A. Only the nipple and window of the button are required to be exposed to water. Within 5 minutes of completion of test, the control shall be tested and shall meet the dielectric withstand test

34、described in Clause 12.6. Within 15 minutes from removal from humidity, the control shall meet the light level requirements of Section 11. 12.3 Surge test The open circuit surge voltage shall have a 6,000 V peak amplitude and a 1.2 s x 50 s wave shape. The voltage wave shall be synchronized with the

35、 AC power lines and shall be initiated from 30 to 60 or 225 to 285 after the 60 Hz voltage has gone through zero from positive to negative. The short circuit surge current shall be 3,000 A peak and have an 8 s x 20 s wave shape. Available ac follow current shall be 1,000 A. All values are 5%. To per

36、form the test, the control window is exposed to less than 1 Lux (0.1 Fc). The control is subjected to two surges at 30 to 60, one at 255 to 285. The control window is then exposed to over 1,070 Lux (100 Fc) and subjected to two surges at 30 to 60, one at 255 to 285. Time between surges shall be two

37、minutes. Surges shall be applied between LINE and NEUTRAL or COMMON lead. LOAD lead shall not be connected. The test is run at 25 5C with the control at any convenient position. After this test, the control shall operate per Section 11 and Clause 12.6. 12.4 Load test, 120 V Controls shall pass the f

38、ollowing minimum design tests. Since the tests may degrade controls, new controls may be used for each test. 12.4.1 Tungsten test The control shall be connected to a load of a single 500 W mogul base tungsten filament lamp operated at 120 Vac, 60 Hz. The test setup shall be capable of supplying an i

39、nstantaneous inrush current to the lamp of at least 45 A. The control shall be cycled at a rate no faster than 1 ON/OFF cycle in 6 minutes by subjecting the control window to less than 0.1 Fc for 1.5 minutes, gradually increasing light to 20 Fc over a period of 1 minute, maintaining light at 20 Fc f

40、or 2.5 minutes and then gradually decreasing illumination to below 0.1 Fc over a period of 1 minute. If the design of the control is such that it will respond to rapidly changing light levels, the test may be done below 1 Lux (0.1 Fc) for 10 seconds and over 214 Lux (20 Fc) for 50 seconds. The contr

41、ol shall be capable of switching the load for 3,650 operations with no more than 5 failures to operate. 12.4.2 Inductive load test The same procedure as Clause 12.4.1 shall be used, except the load shall be an inductor that draws 6.25 A at a power factor of 0.4-0.6 at 120 Vac. 6ANSI C136.24-2004 (R2

42、010) 12.4.3 Capacitive load test The same procedure as Clause 12.4.1 shall be used, except a 60 F 10% ac capacitor is added in parallel with the inductor. 12.4.4 Steady state load test The control shall be connected to a resistive load equal to 80% of its rated current at an ambient of 40C for 48 ho

43、urs with less than 1 Lux (0.1 Fc) on the control window. After removal from load, the control shall pass Sections 11 and 12. 12.5 Load test, other voltages Controls rated for voltages other than 120 Vac shall be tested as in Clause 12.4, except load current will be adjusted so that load wattage and

44、volt-amperes are the same as in Clauses 12.4.1, 12.4.2, and 12.4.3. Test(s) will be performed at minimum and maximum rated voltage. 12.6 Dielectric withstand test The control shall be mounted with nipple through a hole in a metal plate. The dielectric withstand test shall be made by applying the tes

45、t potential between: 1) All control leads and 2) the metal plate and any exposed conductive parts. The test is for 2.5 minutes with a potential of 2,500 volts, 60 Hz.
