6、ehicle gateways Summary A vehicle gateway (VG) is a device in a vehicle that enables communications between a device in the vehicle and another device which may be physically located either inside the vehicle or outside the vehicle. Recommendation ITU-T F.749.1 describes functional requirements for

7、vehicle gateways, including transport functional requirements, networking functional requirements, network access functional requirements, communication with in-vehicle devices functional requirements and network access management and security functional requirements. This Recommendation also descri

8、bes the network protocols and communications interfaces to support seamless wired and wireless connectivity in heterogeneous access network environments. This Recommendation specifies functional requirements for a VG supporting a variety of existing and new access technologies. The VG is to a large

9、extent independent from specific communication technologies and specific intelligent transport system (ITS) applications. The VG architecture is intended to be an open architecture, which will make it easy for a manufacturer to implement, test and select an appropriate communications type according

10、to the manufacturers own requirements and network conditions. 12、in the field of telecommunications, information and communication technologies (ICTs). The ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) is a permanent organ of ITU. ITU-T is responsible for studying technical, operating and tariff questions and issuing Recommendations on them with a view to

13、standardizing telecommunications on a worldwide basis. The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA), which meets every four years, establishes the topics for study by the ITU-T study groups which, in turn, produce Recommendations on these topics. The approval of ITU-T Recommendations

14、is covered by the procedure laid down in WTSA Resolution 1. In some areas of information technology which fall within ITU-Ts purview, the necessary standards are prepared on a collaborative basis with ISO and IEC. NOTE In this Recommendation, the expression “Administration“ is used for conciseness t

15、o indicate both a telecommunication administration and a recognized operating agency. Compliance with this Recommendation is voluntary. 23、ments, communication-with-in-vehicle devices functional requirements, and network access management and security functional requirements. It also describes communications interfaces to support the seamless wired and wireless connectivity in the heterogeneous access network environments. 2 References

29、sitioning and automation technologies to improve the safety, management and efficiency of terrestrial transport systems. 3.2 Terms defined in this Recommendation This Recommendation defines the following terms: 3.2.1 nomadic devices: Nomadic devices include all types of information and communication

30、 devices as well as entertainment devices that can be brought into the vehicle by the driver and/or passengers to be used while driving. Examples include mobile phones, portable computers, tablets, mobile navigation devices, portable media players and multi-functional smart phones. 3.2.2 vehicle gat

31、eway (VG): A VG is a device in a vehicle that enables communications between a device in the vehicle and another device which may be physically located either inside the vehicle or outside the vehicle (e.g., roadside station, cloud-based server, etc.). A VG provides standardized interfaces and proto

33、ateway platform (VGP): A VGP is the collection of ICT hardware and software in a vehicle operating as an open platform to provide an integrated runtime environment for delivering the communications services of a VG. A VGP may also provide higher layer communications services such as interaction with

34、 the driver through the driver-vehicle access services and so on. Subsystems dedicated solely to vehicle operation are not considered part of the VGP. 39、le operating as an open platform to provide an integrated runtime environment for delivering the communications services of a vehicle gateway (VG). The VGP may also provide higher layer communications services such as interaction with the driver through the driver-vehicle access services and so on.

40、Subsystems dedicated solely to vehicle operation are not considered part of the VGP. Supported applications/services include intelligent transport system (ITS) and infotainment. The VGP functional layer structure model follows the principles of the open systems interconnection (OSI) model for layere

41、d communication protocols. Based on the VGP framework, the VGP functionality straddles across OSI layers 1 to 7, whereas the VG functionality covers OSI layers 1 to 4. The VG includes transport functions, networking functions and network access functions. The coloured block in Figure 1 shows the loc

ITU-T F.749.1 (11/2015) The network access functional layer can be divided into three interface groups between a VG and internal or external devic

43、es/networks as follows: Interfaces for nomadic devices, which are used for communication between the VG and consumer devices. Interfaces for external devices using networks such as cellular communications, short-to-medium range wireless communication such as legacy dedicated short range communicatio

44、n (DSRC), IEEE 802.11 (part of wireless access in vehicular environments), etc. which are used to provide communications for ITS services. Interfaces for accessing in-vehicle devices such as sensors and electronic control units (ECUs) through the in-vehicle buses like the controller area network (CA

45、N) bus. The upper layers handle transport functions and networking layers handle routing functions, reliable data delivery of service data, etc. 7 Functional requirements for a VG Figure 3 shows the functional blocks for a VG. VG functional blocks include transport functional blocks, networking func

46、tional blocks, network access functional blocks, wired and wireless access management functional blocks and security functional blocks. Figure 3 VG functional blocks 7.1 Transport-related functional requirements The VG should support several transport protocols including UDP/TCP. The VG should also

47、support the network address translation (NAT) function to provide Internet access to all in-vehicle devices. 7.2 Networking-related functional requirements The VG should support multiple optional and complementary network protocols running independent of each other: VG shall support IP protocols, e.

48、g., IPv4 or IPv6 for Internet connectivity including the routing capability to the selected network. Rec. ITU-T F.749.1 (11/2015) 5 VG should support other network protocols. These protocols are meant to support applications with severe timing constraints and low latency requirements, e.g., time-cri

49、tical safety related applications, road safety and traffic efficiency applications. 7.3 Network access-related functional requirements In this Recommendation, network access covers the OSI model physical layer (PHY) (connecting physically to the communication medium) and data link layer (DLL), which may be sub-divided into medium access control (MAC) sub-layer managing the access to the communication medium, and logical link control (LLC) sub-layer.
