It supersedes BS718:1979 which
13、is withdrawn. BS718:1979 was undertaken with the following objectives in view. a) To align as nearly as practicable with ISO387 and ISO649 prepared by Technical Committee48, Laboratory glassware and related apparatus, of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). b) To restrict the sc
14、ales of density to the exclusion of relative density (formerly termed specific gravity) 1) . c) As a step to the full utilization of basic SI units, to introduce the option of scales marked in kg/m 3as an alternative to g/ml. In addition to the five series and two sub-series of hydrometers specified
15、 in the1960 edition, a new sub-series (S50SP) was introduced which, like the other sub-series, is for use in the petroleum industry. This edition introduces technical changes but it does not reflect a full review or revision of the standard which will be undertaken in due course. This edition introd

In addition to the specification this standard contains a number of app

These include a table of the surface tension categories adopted for the hydrometers, a table of recommended stem diameters, information on the technique for using hydrometers, tables of temperature corrections, indications of the influence of surface tension on the various hydrometers, a ta

Suitable vessels for use with the hydrometers are described. The relationship between density and weight
19、 per millilitre in air is indicated. A new table for the density of distilled water between0 C and40 C is included. Information enabling hydrometer and pyknometer readings to be interrelated (given in the1960 edition of this British Standard) is given in BS733. Guide to intending purchasers of Briti

The references on the right are to the relevant portions of the standard. 1) Users who may have a continuing need to use relative density (d 60/60F) hydrometers should refer to ISO650 which is technically identical with the relevant parts of the1953 and1960 editions of
