6、ial 2ii blankBS5131-4.7:1975 BSI 10-1999 1 1 Scope This Section describes a peel test for assessing the adhesion of a rib to the attached insole. Provision is also made for peel testing after water soaking to simulate the wetting effect of perspiration during wear. The test may be carried out either

7、 on ribbed insoles or on sample strips of insole material with ribs affixed along the edges. NOTESection4.7 is based on SATRA 1)Method AM 1, Appendix R. 2 Reference This Section refers to BS 3978 “Water for laboratory use”. 3 Principle The rib is peeled from the attached insole in a tensile-testing

8、machine. Separate determinations are carried out on dry and on wet test pieces. 4 Supplementary information In the case of strips of insole material, the procedure described in this Section requires to be completed by information on the means of attaching the ribs to the insole material. This inform

9、ation shall be derived from the British Standard, or other specification, for the material under test or shall be the subject of agreement between parties interested in the results of the test. 5 Test pieces NOTEPeel tests are usually combined with shear tests on the rib. Figure 1 and Figure 2 show

10、convenient combined layouts of test pieces for both tests. Section4.6 of BS5131 describes a procedure for the determination of shear strength. 5.1 Ribbed insoles 5.1.1 Test two insoles, taking four test pieces, each about750mm long, from each. Mark out test pieces for wet and for dry peel testing ac

11、cording to a suitable scheme, such as that indicated inFigure 1. 5.1.2 Cut out the eight peeling test pieces, marking on them suitable directions of peel, such as those shown inFigure 1. Because the adhesion at the two ends of the rib and at the toe may be unrepresentative of the adhesion as a whole

12、, do not peel towards these points. 5.1.3 Trim the width of each test piece until it is the overall width of the rib flange; if the fabric has a pinked edge do not cut any of this away. 5.1.4 Apply heat locally to soften the adhesive over a 1.5 cm to 2.5 cm length at the end of the test piece from w

13、hich peeling is to be started and separate the rib flange from the insole by hand. (This is usually best done by pressing a hot metal strip on to the rib fabric flange for a few seconds.) 5.2 Insole material (See also the note to clause8.) 5.2.1 Cut strips of material approximately 750mm wide and 35

14、0mm long. If the insole material has a direction marked for cutting out, cut one strip with its length in this direction. Otherwise, cut one strip in the machine direction and one strip in the cross direction. 5.2.2 Attach ribs to the longer edges of the strips, using the agreed method (see clause4)

15、. 5.2.3 Mark out eight peeling test pieces on each cut strip, using a suitable plan, such as that shown inFigure 2. 5.2.4 Proceed as described in 5.1.3 and 5.1.4. 6 Apparatus and material Use the following apparatus and material. a) Tensile-testing machine, low-inertia, continuous-recording, with a

16、jaw separation rateof 10 2 cm/min and a load range of 0 to100N (0 to 10 kgf). NOTEOne suitable apparatus is the SATRA cantilever tensiometer (STD 160161). b) Water, complying with the requirements of BS3978. 7 Procedure 7.1 Wet testing 7.1.1 Carry out the following procedure on each test piece taken

17、 for wet testing. 7.1.2 Immerse the test pieces in the water at20 2 C for 6 h. 7.1.3 Remove the test pieces from the water and clamp the separate ends of the rib and insole each in a jaw of the tensile-testing machine. Separate the jaws at 102cm/min while recording the force and extension continuous

18、ly. 20、verall rib width. Inspect the test record, and determine visually the mean peeling force, excluding the first centimetre peeled. NOTETypes of joint failure can be classified as follows: a) failure of adhesion to the rib fabric; b) failure of adhesion to the insole material; c) failure within the rib

21、 fabric; d) failure within the insole material; e) cohesive failure of the adhesive; f) non-coalescence of the adhesive films. 7.2 Dry testing. On each test piece taken for dry testing, carry out the procedure described in7.1.3. 8 Expression of results 8.1 Calculate for the four test pieces in each

22、series (i.e. wet and dry respectively) the overall mean of the mean peeling forces. Express the result, in newtons, as the peeling force wet or dry, respectively. 8.2 Calculate the mean overall rib width for each series of four test pieces. 8.3 If an insole material has been tested in more than one

23、direction (see the note and also 5.2.1), express the results for each direction separately. NOTEWith some cellulose boards, there may be a difference of results corresponding to the two directions along the length of the roll (i.e. usually at right angles to the heel-toe direction of cut insoles). I

24、f this effect is apparent (either from the test results or the type of failure) then results for each of these two directions should be obtained and reported separately. 9 Test report Include the following items in the test report: a) the peeling forces, expressed in accordance with clause 8 (the eq

25、uivalent values in kgf may be added in brackets); b) the corresponding mean overall rib widths; c) the type(s) of failure occurring; d) nature and full identification of the sample(s); e) in cases where, for the purposes of the test, ribs were attached to insole material strips, the details of the m
