Scope1.1 This test method covers the procedures for determiningthe capability of climbing treestands to withstand repeated

Terminology3.1 The terminology and definitions in the referenced docu-ments are applicable to this practice.3.2 Definitions:3.2.1 backbar or V-barthe adjustable component of aclimbing treestand or handclim
6、ber that engages the tree toprovide support. The backbar may be rigid or flexible.3.2.2 climbing treestanda treestand that provides both themeans to ascend the tree, and allow the user to remain at adesired elevation.3.2.3 handclimber, or climbing aida device to assistclimbing with a climbing treest

A structure that allows theuser to support his weight when lifting a climbing treestandwith his legs.3.2.4 ladder treestanda treestand that is secured to thetree at the elevation where the platform is located. (The laddertreestand can be secured to the tree at other locations and hassteps that
8、are used to reach the platform or hunting position.)3.2.5 non-climbing, fixed position or hang-on treestandatreestand that is secured to the tree at the elevation where it isused. (The user usually ascends the tree by some means andthen lifts the treestand to the desired position and secures it foru
9、se.)3.2.6 platformthe horizontal structural area of a treestandon which the user stands or places his feet, or both.3.2.7 treestanda device designed to be affixed to a tree orits branches so as to permit an individual to sit or stand thereonfor the purpose of attaining an elevated position from whic

Summary of Test Method4.1 A treestand is mounted so that its platform is perpen-dicular to a rigid wood or metal pole when the rate loadcapacity is ap
11、plied parallel to the mounting pole. The load isapplied vertically and is guided so that it is applied at thelocations applied when ascending or descending a tree on thetreestand. The test subject is noted after a certain number ofloading cycles, by means of a thorough visual inspection, todetermine
12、 if any structural damage such as yielding or crack-ing, or both, has occurred. In the case of a ladder treestand, theload is applied to the rungs of the ladder. The test subject isnoted after a certain number of loading cycles, by means of athorough visual inspection, to determine if any structural

Significance and Use5.1 This test method is intended for quality ass
16、urance andproduction control purposes with recognition that individualusage will vary considerably. This test method is not intendedto be an independent material or product-acceptance test.6. Apparatus6.1 Arigid, round wood or metal pole, preferably vertical, isused to mount the subject product such
17、 that pole deflection isminimized.6.1.1 The mounting pole diameter shall be 10 in. (254 mm),61 in. (25.4 mm).6.2 The load shall be applied using either calibrated weightsor a mechanical device in conjunction with a calibrated loadcell.6.2.1 The use of calibrated weights requires that weightplacement
18、 be accurate to assure that the load applicationcentroid is coincident with the boundaries defined and meetsthe requirements as given in 6.3. Caution should be exercisedfor operator protection with the use of weights in case ofslippage or premature failure.6.2.2 The use of a mechanical device such a
19、s a tensiletesting machine or hydraulic power, in combination withpulleys, fulcrums or bearing to redirect forces, requires the useof a calibrated load cell attached adjacent to the test subject toaccount for friction losses.6.3 The application of the load shall be at a point on theplatform area tha
20、t is the geometric centroid of the test subjectsload placement area while ascending or descending a tree. Theapplication of the load on a ladder treestand shall be at a pointon the rung area which is the geometric center.6.3.1 The load shall be applied to the test subject over a 100in.2(0.065 m2) ar
21、ea for climbing treestands and over a 25 in.2(0.016 m2) area for ladder treestands by either: (1) controlledapplication of calibrated weights, or (2) as described in 6.2.2,to a flat rectangular steel plate 10 in. (254 mm) wide by 10 in.(254 mm) long and a minimum of12 in. (12.7 mm) thick forclimbing
