3、able methods for the evaluation ofmotorized treadmills. Users of the equipment must recognize that conformance to a standard will notnecessarily prevent injuries. Like other physical activities, exercise involving a treadmill involves arisk of injury, particularly if the equipment is not maintained

4、or used properly.1. Scope1.1 These test methods specify procedures and equipmentused for testing and evaluating a motorized treadmill forcompliance to Specification F2115. Both design and opera-tional parameters will be evaluated. Where possible andapplicable, accepted test methods from other recogn

5、ized bodieswill be used and referenced. In case of a conflict between thisdocument and Specification F2115, Specification F2115 takesprecedence.1.2 RequirementsA motorized treadmill is to be tested forall of the following parameters:1.2.1 Stability,1.2.2 Exterior design,1.2.3 Endurance,1.2.4 Static

Significance and Use4.1 The purpose of these test methods is to provide reliableand repeatable test methods for the evaluation of motorizedtreadmills assembled and maintained according to the manu-facturers specifications. Use of these test methods in conjunc-tion with Specificati

10、on F2115 is intended to insure appropriateperformance and reliability of a motorized treadmill and reducethe risk of serious injury from design deficiencies.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F08 on SportsEquipment and Facilities and is the direct responsibility of Subcomm

It is recom-mended that each manufacturer employ an independent labo-ratory to evaluate and validate that their designs and testprocedures conform and comply with these test methods andSpecification F2115.6. Units of Measure6.1 The values stated in SI units ar

15、e to be regarded as thestandard. The values in parenthesis are for information only.7. Sample Preparation7.1 Assemble and adjust the treadmill on a horizontalsurface according to the manufacturers instructions. On tread-mills that are fully assembled, verify according to the manu-facturers instructi

16、ons that the moving surface has been ad-justed to the proper tension and alignment. Unless otherwisestated, the treadmill must pass the following tests withoutadjustment from this initial condition. Apply power to thetreadmill and verify that the unit functions properly. If the unitis equipped with

17、an adjustable incline system, operate itthrough its full range.7.2 The individual test methods will describe any variationsor modifications that are required to the test sample.8. Report8.1 Record of TestsMaintain complete test records andtest summary reports for all testing, whether performed by th

18、emanufacturer or an independent laboratory. The records can bestored on paper, electronically, and/or on photographs. A copyof the test summary must be kept by the laboratory thatperformed the test for a minimum of five years from the dateof the test and by the manufacturer for a minimum of five yea

19、rspast the end of production of the model tested. The summaryshall include the signature of the technician(s) performing thetests and a management representative of the laboratoryperforming the test. The test summary shall include thefollowing information:8.1.1 Manufacturers name and location,8.1.2

20、Information provided by the manufacturer to accu-rately identify the configuration of, and specific unit providedto, the testing agency,8.1.3 Dates over which the tests were conducted, and8.1.4 Name and location of the testing laboratory, if differ-ent from the manufacturer.8.1.5 Summary and results

21、 of each test performed includingmethod and apparatus used. This shall include what the desiredrequirement was and whether the test sample met that param-eter or failed. If the test requires a specific number of cycles tobe met, then the report must include the number of cyclesactually conducted. If

22、 the treadmill fails to meet a parameter,then that failure must be noted in clear and accurate terms toenable a reader of the report to understand at a later date whattranspired.9. Test Methods and Procedures9.1 StabilityThe treadmill shall be tested by a series ofload applications in the orientatio

23、n that is most obviouslyunstable.9.1.1 Apparatus and Set UpPlace treadmill on a non-skid10 surface in the orientation that is least stable. A method ofapplying a steady state force equal to 1.0 3 maximum userweight in the vertical direction must be provided. Possiblemethods of providing force includ

24、e, but are not limited to,pneumatic cylinder(s) or dead weights.9.1.2 CalibrationUsing an angle measuring instrumentaccurate to within 0.1, verify the nonskid surface is 10 60.5. Calibrate the load measurement apparatus to confirmaccuracy to within 620 N (4.5 lb.) over entire user weightrange.9.1.3

25、ProcedureTest the treadmill as follows:9.1.3.1 Using the aforementioned load apparatus, apply avertical load equal to 1.0 3 maximum specified user weight 65 % in a non-impact manner at the point on the foot rail whichcreates the most instability. Verify that the treadmill does nottip over.9.1.3.2 Re

26、peat 9.1.3.1 with the treadmill oriented in anyother directions of potential instability.9.1.3.3 For folding treadmills, the treadmill shall, aftercompleting 9.1.3.1 and 9.1.3.2 be folded to its storage positionper manufacturers instructions and placed on the 10 inclinedsurface in all orientations t

27、hat could cause instability. Noadditional load is to be applied.9.1.4 Pass/Fail CriteriaIn none of the above test condi-tions shall the treadmill tip over.9.1.5 Precision and BiasNo information is presentedabout either the precision or bias of test 9.1 for measuringstability since the test result is

28、 non-quantitative.9.2 Exterior Design:9.2.1 Sharp EdgesThe purpose of this test is to verify thatthere are no edges in the accessible area that would constitutea risk of injury. Where there is uncertainty, a sharp-edge testeras specified by UL 1439 is to be employed.9.2.1.1 Apparatus and Set UpEleva

29、te the treadmill inclineto the least favorable position for applying a sharp-edge testeras specified in UL 1439.9.2.1.2 CalibrationCalibrate sharp-edge tester perUL 1439.9.2.1.3 ProcedureExamine the accessible area by visualand tactile means to ensure all parts are burr-free, rounded, orotherwise in

30、sufficiently sharp to constitute a risk of injury.Wherever there may be uncertainty as to the sharpness of anedge, use the edge tester as follows. Cover the tester head withsensing tape as specified in UL 1439. Application force shouldbe 6.5 N (1.5 lb). Move the head along the test edge for adistanc

31、e of 51 mm (2 in.) and back without tiffing the tester offthe edge. If the available edge for testing is less than 51 mm (2in.), repeat the stroke without lifting the tester. Total travel timeshould range from 2 to 5 s. Examine the tape upon completionof each edge analysis. If any of the sensing tap

32、es break, recordthe violation and reapply the sensing tapes accordingly.9.2.1.4 Pass/Fail CriteriaIf both outer layer sensing tapeshave been cut, the edge is unacceptable.9.2.1.5 Precision and BiasNo information is presentedabout either the precision or bias of test 9.2.1 for evaluatingsharp edges s

34、e innormal use and storage.9.2.2.2 CalibrationNo calibration required. Visual in-spection only.9.2.2.3 ProcedureInspect all corners to verify that thecorners have been radiused or chamfered.9.2.2.4 Pass/Fail CriteriaAll corners in the accessiblearea shall be radiused or chamfered.9.2.2.5 Precision a

35、nd BiasNo information is presentedabout either the precision or bias of test 9.2.2 for evaluatingcomers since the test result is non-quantitative.9.2.3 Tube EndsThis test is a visual inspection of the unitto insure that all tube ends in the accessible area are closed off.9.2.3.1 Apparatus and Set Up

36、Elevate the treadmill to theincline(s) that will expose all tube ends to the accessible area.9.2.3.2 CalibrationNo calibration required. Visual in-spection only.9.2.3.3 ProcedureInspect all tube ends in the accessiblearea to verify that they are closed off by other components,caps, plugs, or covers.

37、9.2.3.4 Pass/Fail CriteriaAll tube ends in the accessiblearea shall be closed off.9.2.3.5 No information is presented about either the preci-sion or bias of test 9.2.3 for evaluating tube end closure sincethe test result is non-quantitative.9.2.4 Rotating parts in the accessible area and rear roller

38、area. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the risk of injurydue to a moving mechanical part. Methodology entails inser-tion of an articulate probe that simulates an accepted casefinger into all questionable areas.9.2.4.1 Apparatus and Set UpThis test requires a probe asspecified in Fig. 2, “Test

39、 Finger,” of EN 9571. Verify that allguards are properly positioned and secured and the movingsurface is centered per instructions in the owners manual.Apply power to the treadmill so that its incline can be elevatedand the moving surface can be run.9.2.4.2 CalibrationVerify the articulate probe con

40、formsto the dimensions of Fig. 2, “Test Finger,” of EN 9571.9.2.4.3 ProcedureWith no power applied, insert probe atany pull-in nip points or areas accessible to any mechanicalhazards on the treadmill. Points of insertion include, but shallnot be limited to the rear roller guards, foot rail to moving

41、surface interface, motor compartment/moving surface gap andany openings in the motor compartment or shroud. For allinsertions, the probe is to be rotated and bent in all possibleconfigurations and application force shall not exceed 4.4 N (1lb). Elevate the treadmill to its maximum incline position.U

42、nder the assumption there shouldnt be any hazard, run themoving surface at minimum speed and verify the finger willnot get trapped anywhere. If any other incline positions reveala potential pull in or nip points, the test shall be repeated at thatincline position.9.2.4.4 Pass/Fail CriteriaThe probe

43、shall not becomeentrapped in any mechanical hazard. Entrapment is defined tohave occurred if the force to pull out the probe is greater than4.4 N (1 lb).9.2.4.5 Precision and BiasNo information is presentedabout either the precision or bias of test 9.2.4 for evaluatinghazards of rotating parts since

44、 the test result is non-quantitative.9.2.5 Guarding from Electrical HazardsThe purpose ofthis test is to verify that all electrical elements are adequatelyguarded to prevent electric shock from uninsulated live partsand film-coated wire. Methodology entails insertion of anarticulate probe that simul

45、ates a worst case finger into allquestionable areas.9.2.5.1 Apparatus and Set UpThis test requires an articu-late probe as specified in UL 1647. Verify that all guards areproperly positioned and secured and the moving surface iscentered per instructions in the owners manual. Treadmill tobe tested in

46、 all incline positions and all normal usage positionsthat may present a hazard.9.2.5.2 CalibrationVerify articulate probes conform tothe dimensions of UL 1647.9.2.5.3 ProcedureWith no power applied, insert probe atany points where contact with electrical elements is possible.Points of insertion incl

47、ude, but shall not be limited to the motorcompartment/moving surface gap and any openings in themotor compartment or shroud. For all insertions, the probe is tobe rotated and bent in all possible configurations and applica-tion force shall not exceed 4.4 N (1 lb). Elevate the treadmillto all other i

48、ncline positions that may present a hazard andrepeat the insertion test. The components not involved in theinsertion area may now be removed to clearly see whether theprobe can contact any electrical hazard.9.2.5.4 Pass/Fail CriteriaThe probe shall not contact anyelectrical hazard.9.2.5.5 Precision

49、and BiasNo information is presentedabout either the precision or bias of test 9.2.5 for evaluatingaccessibility of electrical components since the test result isnonquantitative.9.2.6 Foot RailsThe purpose of this test is to evaluate theslip resistance of the foot rails of the treadmill and to verify thatthey meet specified dimensional requirements.9.2.6.1 Apparatus and Set UpThe treadmill shall beplaced adjacent to a test device consisting of a roughened(using 60 to 63 grain size abrasive paper) rubber surfaced blockmade wit
