Scope*1.1 This specification covers cold-expansion fittings using metal compression-sleeves for use with cross-linked polyethylene(PEX) plastic pipe in 38-in., 12-in., 58-in., 34-in., 1-in., 114-in., 112-in., and 2 in. nominal diameters, whereby the PEX pipe iscold-expanded before fit

These cold-expansion fittings and metal compression-sleeves are intended for use inresidential and commercial, hot and cold, potable water distribution systems, as well as sealed central heating, includingunder-floor heating systems, with continuous operation at pressures up to and in

5、cluding 100 psi (690 kPa), and at temperatures upto and including 180F (82C).1.2 Included in this specification are the requirements for materials, workmanship, dimensions, and markings to be used on thefittings and compression-sleeves. Plating can not negatively affect the quality of markings or the ability to meet S1.2.5.3.1 Nickel PlatingAppli

32、cation of electroplated nickel coating shall meet the requirements of Specifications B689 and B851.5.3.2 Chrome PlatingApplication of electroplated chrome coating shall meet the requirements of Specification B851.6. Performance Requirements6.1 GeneralAll performance tests shall be conducted on assem

33、blies of fittings (cold-expansion fittings and compression-sleeves) and PEX pipe. Fittings shall meet the material and dimensional requirements of this specification. PEX pipe shall meetthe requirements of Specifications F876 and F877.Assembly of test specimens shall be in accordance with 9.3. Each

34、assembly shallcontain at least two joints. Use separate sets of assemblies for each performance test requirement.6.2 Fittings shall comply with the following performance requirements of Specification F877. When a section with an identicaltitle appears in this Specification, it contains additional re

35、quirements that supplement those found in Specification F877.6.2.1 Requirements,6.2.2 Test Methods, and6.2.3 Retest and Rejection.7. Dimensions7.1 Dimensions and TolerancesThe dimensions and tolerances of the cold-expansion fittings and compression-sleeves, whenmeasured in accordance with 10.1, shal

36、l be as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.7.1.1 AlignmentThe maximum angular variation of any opening shall not exceed 1 off the true centerline axis.7.1.2 Fittings with Solder-Joint EndsSolder-joint end dimensions shall be in accordance withASME B16.18,ASME B16.22,or MSS SP-104.7.1.3 Tapered Threaded-EndsFitt

37、ing threads shall be right-hand, conforming to ASME B1.20.1, and shall be tapered threads(NPT).7.1.4 Straight Threaded-EndsFitting threads shall be right-hand, conforming to ASME B1.20.1, and shall be straightmechanical threads (NPSM).7.1.5 Inside DiameterThe minimum inside diameter, listed as Dimen

38、sion F in Fig. 1, applies to the entire fitting not just theinsert area. When fitting has ends that are of different sizes or configurations (for example, threaded, solder), or both, the minimumID applies to entire insert area.8. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance8.1 The fittings shall be made from

39、 materials that are homogeneous throughout. All sealing surfaces shall be smooth and freeof foreign material. The walls of cold-expansion fittings and compression-sleeves shall be free of cracks, holes, blisters, voids,foreign inclusions, or other defects that are visible to the unaided eye and that

40、 affect wall integrity.8.2 FlashExcept for the insert, molded polymer fittings shall be free of flash in excess of 0.005 in. On the insert, moldedpolymer fittings shall be free of flash in excess of 0.002 in. Flash, mismatch, and witness mark requirements for the insert shallbe in accordance with Fi

41、gs. 3 and 4.8.3 SplayMolded polymer fittings shall be free of visible splay excepting some light blushing at the gate location.9. Assembly9.1 Joints:9.1.1 Cold-Expansion JointsFittings shall be joined to PEX pipe by first expanding the end of the pipe with the expander tool,inserting the cold-expans

42、ion fitting into expanded pipe, then pulling the compression-sleeve over the PEX pipe and the fitting,compressing the pipe between the compression-sleeve and the fitting. Cold-expansion fittings and compression-sleeves shall meetthe dimensional and material requirements of this specification. PEX pi

43、pe shall meet the requirements of Specifications F876 andF877.9.2 Expander Tool:9.2.1 The expander tool shall have a six-section axial expanding cylindrical-shaped head with unexpanded and maximumexpanded diameters as shown in Table 1.9.2.2 The expander tool shall be inspected according to manufactu

44、rers instructions.9.3 Procedure:9.3.1 Slide the compression-sleeve onto the pipe so that the inside-beveled end is facing toward the end of the pipe. Slide thecompression-sleeve far enough down the pipe so that it will not prevent expansion of the pipe. Insert the head of the expander-toolinto the p

45、ipe. The expander-tool segments shall be centered inside the pipe. Expand the pipe for approximately 3 s, and removethe tool. Rotate the tool approximately 30, insert the expander-tool into the pipe and repeat the expansion process. Thecold-expansion fitting shall be inserted within 30 s of the seco

46、nd expansion. The fitting is properly inserted when the PEX pipeF2080 153is pushed up against the last rib (dimensioned as Rib I in Fig. 1) of the cold-expansion fitting. If full insertion is not possible,remove the cold-expansion fitting immediately and expand the pipe again for 3 s.9.3.2 When the

47、expansion is complete, and the cold-expansion fitting is inserted properly into the PEX pipe, the metalcompression-sleeve shall be pulled over the fitting with a linear compression tool provided for the purpose.Note 1All dimensions shall be measured with appropriate micrometers, such as pin or ball

48、micrometers for wall thickness, and outside-diameter micrometers with flatanvils, or vernier calipers, to measure outside diameter and width of cold-expansion fittings and compression-sleeves.Note 2The average measurement is obtained from measurements taken in at least four locations spaced at appro
