3、ited to evaluation of canister,hand-held, stick, and utility type vacuum cleaners without adriven agitator.1.2 This test method provides a test to determine operatinglife of the motor, before servicing is needed, by an acceleratedlaboratory procedure. The motor is tested while mounted and isoperated

Terminology3.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.1.1 failurewhen motor stoppage

This may bedue to failure of an armature assembly, field assembly, hous-ing(s), bearings, motor cooling fan and primary air moving fanor both, brush assemblies, motor mounted nonresetable thermalprotection devices or any other component judged to beintegral with the motor.3.1.2 motor lifethe
8、 time at which any failure of the motoroccurs.4. Significance and Use4.1 The test results provide an indication of the motor life ofan electric vacuum cleaner in operating hours. The end of themotor life will be judged in accordance with Section 3.5. Apparatus and Materials5.1 Voltage Regulator Syst
9、em, to control the input voltage tothe vacuum cleaner. The regulator system shall be capable ofmaintaining the vacuum cleaners rated voltage 61 % andrated frequency 61 Hz having a waveform that is essentiallysinusoidal with 3 % maximum harmonic distortion for theduration of the test.5.2 Voltmeter, t
10、o provide measurements accurate to 61%.5.3 Timer and SwitchThe timer and switch will have thecapacity to control on/off duty cycle of the vacuum cleanerduring the life test.5.4 Sharp Edge Orifice PlateThe orifice, 0.75 in. (19.05mm) in diameter, shall be in accordance with the figureillustrating ori
11、fice plate detail in Specification F 431.5.5 Wattmeter, to provide measurements accurate to 61%.5.6 Plenum Chamber, in accordance with the plenum cham-ber described in Specification F 431.5.7 Water Manometer, or equivalent instrument measuringin increments of 0.1 in. (2.54 mm).5.8 Thermometer, havin
12、g a range of at least 18 to 80F (-8to +27C) and graduated in 1F (0.5C) increments.5.9 PsychrometerThe psychrometer shall meet the re-quirements of Test Method E 337 with thermometers in incre-ments of 1F (0.5C).5.10 Test FixtureAny suitable surface that will supportthe vacuum cleaner in the normal o

Sampling6.1 Test a minimum of three units (or a larger sample size ifdesired) of similar models using the same motor style andamperage. Select all samples at random in accordance withgood statistical practice. Results
16、 shall provide an 80 % confi-dence level within 610 % of the mean value. If not, testadditional samples or reduce the results by the penalty factor ascalculated in 7.8.1.7. Procedures for Motor Life Evaluation7.1 Determine initial performance as follows:7.1.1 Connect the manometer (or equivalent) to
17、 the plenumchamber. Install a clean filter in the test vacuum cleaner beforeconducting performance tests. (This is not required for unitswhich do not use filters).7.1.2 With the vacuum cleaner hose end (or nozzle) sealedto the plenum chamber and without an orifice plate in theholder, energize the va
18、cuum cleaner at its nameplate ratedvoltage 61 % and frequency 61 Hz until the vacuum cleanerreaches its normal operating temperature. For vacuum cleanerswith dual nameplate voltage ratings, conduct testing at thehighest voltage.7.1.3 With the vacuum cleaner operating at a constant ratedvoltage, inse
19、rt the 0.75 in. (19.05 mm) diameter sharp-edgeorifice into the holder on the plenum chamber.7.1.4 Record the manometer reading as soon as the readingstabilizes.7.1.4.1 Take readings as soon as the manometer reaches atrue peak. (On higher manometer readings, the liquid level maypeak drop and peak a s
20、econd time. The second peak is the truepeak reading. A person conducting the test for the first timeshall observe a least one run before recording data). SeeSpecification F 431 for instructions on how to minimize theovershoot (first peak) of the liquid level.7.1.4.2 Take all readings within 10 s of
21、the orifice plateinsertion.7.1.5 Record the wattage of the vacuum cleaner connectedto the plenum chamber. The wattage reading is used to monitorthe vacuum cleaner load.7.1.6 Monitor the wattage and the suction daily and measureon the plenum chamber every 168 h to ensure that a load ismaintained, tha
