Scope1.1 This test method covers procedures for determ
3、ining theeffect of freezing and thawing of exterior insulation and finishsystems (EIFS), an EIFS with water-resistive barrier coatings,and water-resistive barrier coatings by itself.1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stat
4、ed ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use.

Summary of Test Method4.1 Specimens are subjected to cyc
8、les of freezing andthawing. Surface changes, viewed at 5 magnification, areexamined for signs of deleterious effects, such as cracking,crazing, checking, blistering, peeling, delamination, or erosion.5. Significance and Use5.1 Resistance to freezing and thawing is a factor whendetermining the durabi
9、lity of EIFS, an EIFS with water-resistive barrier coatings, and water-resistive barrier coatingsby itself.6. Apparatus6.1 Compressor, Freezing Chamber, and CirculatorOfsuch design and capacity that the temperature of the air in thefreezing chamber shall not exceed 9 C 16 F 1 h afterintroducing the
10、maximum charge of units. The initial tempera-ture will not exceed 32 C 90 F.6.2 Trays and ContainersWill be shallow, metal, and havean inside depth of 38.1 6 12.7 mm 112 612 in. and be ofsuitable strength and size so that the tray with a charge offrozen units can be removed from the freezing chamber
11、 by oneperson.6.3 Thawing TankShould permit complete submersion ofthe specimens in their trays.Adequate means shall be providedso that the water in the tank may be kept at a temperature of 246 5.5 C 75 6 10 F.6.4 Drying RoomMaintained at a temperature of 24 68 C 75 6 15 F, with a relative humidity b
12、etween 30 and70 %. The drying room should be free from drafts.7. Test Specimens7.1 Water-Resistive Barrier Coatings7.1.1 Prepare a minimum of five test specimens measuringa minimum of 150 mm26 in.2 for each substrate that will beevaluated.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee

The joint shall betreated as it would in its end-use configuration.7.1.3 Apply the water-resistive barrier coa
17、ting over thesubstrate surface in accordance with the manufacturers in-structions. The specimen shall be representative of those usedin actual construction.Allow the water-resistive barrier coatingto dry a minimum of 24 h.7.1.4 The back and sides of the test specimens shall besealed with an impervio
18、us material that need not be thecoating.7.2 EIFS Testing7.2.1 Prepare a minimum of five test specimens measuringa minimum of 150 mm26 in.2 and consisting of the followingmaterials:7.2.1.1 Substrate,7.2.1.2 Water-resistive barrier coating (if applicable),7.2.1.3 Insulation board,7.2.1.4 Reinforcing m
19、esh, and7.2.1.5 Finish.7.2.2 If a water-resistive barrier coating is included as partof the EIFS System, apply the water-resistive barrier coatingover the substrate surface in accordance with the manufactur-ers instructions. The specimen shall be representative of thoseused in actual construction.7.
20、2.3 Secure the insulation board to the substrate or water-resistive barrier coating (where applicable). Apply the basecoat and reinforcing mesh to the surface of the insulation boardincluding the edges. Allow the base coat to cure a minimum of24 h.7.2.4 The back and sides of the test specimens shall
