Terminology3.1 Definition:3.1.1 bedspreada type of bedcovering that is placed overthe blankets and sheets for appearance and warmth.3.2 For definitions of textile

16、ics that could be utilized for thisend-use.4.3 The uses and significance of particular properties andtest emthods are discussed in the appropriate sections of thespecified test methods.5. Test Methods5.1 Breaking Force (Woven Fabrics Only) Determine thedry breaking strength (load), as directed in th

17、e grab testprocedure of Test Methods D 5034 using a constant-rate-of-extension (CRE) tensile grab machine.NOTE 2If preferred, a constant-rate-of-traverse (CRT) tensile testingmachine may be used. There may be no overall correlation between theresults obtained with the CRT machine and with the CRE ma

18、chine.Consequently, these two breaking load testers cannot be used interchange-ably. In case of controversy, the CRE method shall prevail.5.2 Bursting Strength (knit fabrics only)Determine thebursting strength of knit fabrics in accordance with TestMethod D 3786 using an approved type of diaphragm b

19、urstingtester or as directed in D 3787 using an approved constant-rate-of-traverse (CRT) machine equipped with a burstingattachment.NOTE 3Care should be taken to subtract the tare diaphragm pressurefrom the gross pressure to obtain actual bursting strength of fabric whenusing the diaphragm bursting

20、tester. Calibrate the equipment according tothe manufacturers instruction before using. Since there is no overallcorrelation between the results obtained with the CRT machine equippedwith a bursting attachment and the diaphragm bursting tester, these twobursting testers cannot be used interchangeabl

21、y. In case of controversy, theCRT machine equipped with a bursting attachment method shall prevail.NOTE 4The precision of the ball burst method using the CRT machineequipped with a bursting attachment and the precision of the diaphragmbursting tester method are being established by Subcommittee D13.

22、59.The methods are accordingly not recommended for acceptance testingunless preceded by an interlaboratory check test in the laboratory of thepurchaser and the laboratory of the seller using randomized replicatespecimens of the material to be evaluated.5.3 Tearing Strength (woven fabrics only)Determ

23、ine tearstrength as directed in Test Method D 2261.NOTE 5If preferred, use of Test Methods D 1424 and D 2261 ispermitted with existing requirements as given in this specification. Theremay be no overall correlation between the results obtained with the tonguetear machine and with the Elmendorf machi
