1、Designation: D 4000 07Standard Classification System forSpecifying Plastic Materials1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 4000; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in
2、 parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope*1.1 This standard provides a classification system for tabu-latin
3、g the properties of unfilled, filled, and reinforced plasticmaterials suitable for processing into parts.NOTE 1The classification system may serve many of the needs ofindustries using plastic materials. The standard is subject to revision as theneed requires; therefore, the latest revision should al
4、ways be used.1.2 The classification system and subsequent line callout(specification) is intended to be a means of identifying plasticmaterials used in the fabrication of end items or parts. It is notintended for the selection of materials. Material selectionshould be made by those having expertise
5、in the plastics fieldafter careful consideration of the design and the performancerequired of the part, the environment to which it will beexposed, the fabrication process to be employed, the inherentproperties of the material not covered in this document, and theeconomic factors.1.3 This classifica
6、tion system is based on the premise thatplastic materials can be arranged into broad generic familiesusing basic properties to arrange the materials into groups,classes, and grades. A system is thus established which,together with values describing additional requirements, per-mits as complete a des
7、cription as desired of the selectedmaterial.1.4 In all cases where the provisions of this classificationsystem would conflict with the referenced ASTM specificationfor a particular material, the latter shall take precedence.NOTE 2When using this classification system the two-letter, three-digit suff
8、ix system applies.NOTE 3When a material is used to fabricate a part where therequirements are too specific for a broad material callout, it is advisablefor the user to consult the supplier to secure callout of the properties to suitthe actual conditions to which the part is to be subjected.1.5 This
9、standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2.
