3、lar mass of petroleum oils from kinematicviscosity measurements at 100 and 210F (37.78 and98.89C).2It is applicable to samples with mean relativemolecular masses in the range from 250 to 700 and is intendedfor use with average petroleum fractions. It should not beapplied indiscriminately to oils tha
4、t represent extremes ofcomposition or possess an exceptionally narrow mean relativemolecular mass range.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. Summary of Test Method3.1 The kinematic viscosity of the oil is determined at 100and 210F (37.78 and 98.89C). A function “H”
7、of the 100Fviscosity is established by reference to a tabulation of Hfunction versus 100F viscosity. The H value and the 210Fviscosity are then used to estimate the mean relative molecularmass from a correlation chart.4. Significance and Use4.1 This test method provides a means of calculating themea
8、n relative molecular mass of petroleum oils from anotherphysical measurement.4.2 Mean relative molecular mass is a fundamental physicalconstant that can be used in conjunction with other physicalproperties to characterize hydrocarbon mixtures.5. Procedure5.1 Determine the kinematic viscosity of the
9、oil at 100 and210F (37.78 and 98.89C) as described in Test Method D 445.5.2 Look in Table 1 for 100F (37.78C) viscosity and readthe value of H that corresponds to the measured viscosity.Linear interpolation between adjacent columns may be re-quired.5.3 Read the viscositymean relative molecular mass
10、chartfor H and 210F (98.89C) viscosity. A simplified version ofthis chart is shown in Fig. 1 for illustration purposes only (Note1). Interpolate where necessary between adjacent lines of210F viscosity. After locating the point corresponding to thevalue of H (ordinate) and the 210F viscosity (superim
11、posedlines), read the mean relative molecular mass along theabscissa.Example:Measured viscosity, cSt:100F (37.78C) = 179210F (98.89C) = 9.72Look in Table 1 for 179 and read the corresponding value H= 461.Using H = 461 and 210F viscosity = 9.72 in conjunctionwith chart gives mean relative molecular m
12、ass = 360 (see Fig.1).NOTE 1A 22 by 28-in. (559 by 711-mm) chart available as an adjunctto this test method was used in cooperative testing of the method.
