Scope1.1 This specification covers glas

3、s felts impregnated tovarying degrees with asphalt intended to be used with asphaltsconforming to the requirements of Specifications D312 orD7654 in the construction of built-up roofs, and with asphaltsconforming to the requirements of Specification D449 in theconstruction of waterproofing systems.1

4、.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith t

9、ials and Manufacture5.1 The felt shall be a thin, porous sheet of uniformlydistributed glass fibers, with or without the addition of rein-forcing stranded glass yarns, and bonded with a water-resistantresinous binder.5.2 In the process of manufacture, the felt shall be impreg-nated with asphalt whic

10、h shall be permitted to contain amineral stabilizer so that the individual glass fibers are coatedand the asphalt is evenly distributed throughout.5.3 The impregnated glass felt shall be surfaced with amaterial to prevent sticking in the roll. The nature and quantityof the surfacing material shall n

11、ot interfere with adhesionbetween the plies of a membrane.6. 21、estMethods D146, the paragraph on felts in the Pliability section.7. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 The finished material shall be uniformly impregnatedwith asphalt of uniform thickness, and shall be free of visibledefects such as ragged or untrue edges, breaks, cracks, tears,and protuberanc

22、es.7.2 Type IV shall contain closely spaced pinholes not over0.8 mm 132 in. in diameter over the entire area of the felt.Individual holes up to 6.4 mm 14 in. in diameter shall bepermitted, provided that no more than five such holes are foundin any 1.0 m21.2 yd2 of felt.7.3 Type VI shall be permitted

23、 to contain closely spacedholes over the entire area of the felt up to 3 mm 18 in. indiameter.7.4 The finished material shall be furnished with layinglines, which shall be clearly visible during application of theroof, and spaced at appropriate distances apart to provide forapplication of built-up r

24、oofs with the appropriate number ofplies.8. Sampling and Test Methods8.1 Sample the material and determine the properties enu-merated in this specification in accordance with Test MethodsD146, except for the net dry mass of asphalt-impregnated glassfelt.8.2 Net Dry Mass of Asphalt-Impregnated Glass

25、FeltCut arepresentative sample from the full width of each sample roll asdescribed in Section 10 of Test Methods D146. Suspend thesamples vertically and allow them to dry to constant weight.Remove the detached comminuted surfacing as described inSection 11 of Test Methods D146. Then weigh each sampl

26、e offelt and calculate the individual and average net dry mass perunit area.8.3 AshDetermine ash by ignition at 538 6 14C 1000 625F for not less than 10 min.9. Inspection9.1 InspectionInspection shall be in accordance with therequirements of this specification.9.2 Inspection AlternativesAlternative

27、inspection require-ments shall be detemined by and as agreed upon between thepurchaser and the supplier.10. Rejection and Resubmittal10.1 Failure to ConformFailure to conform to any of therequirements as stated in this specification constitutes groundsfor rejection.10.2 Rejection RedressThe supplier

28、 shall have the right toinspect the rejected materials. The supplier and the purchasershall agree to the quantity of rolls deemed unacceptable. Thesupplier shall then have the right to submit the same number ofnew rolls as replacement.11. Packaging and Package Marking11.1 Unless otherwise agreed upo

29、n between the supplier andpurchaser, each product package shall be plainly marked withthe suppliers name, product brand, ASTM designation, andtype of bitumen if not evident in the label name of the product.11.2 The rolls shall be securely wrapped or banded in amanner that completely encircles the ro

30、ll and will preventslipping or unrolling.11.3 No roll shall contain more than two pieces, and nomore than 3 % of the rolls in any lot shall contain two pieces.If a roll contains a manufacturing splice, the splice shall beclearly marked.12.
