1、Designation: C 612 04Standard Specification forMineral Fiber Block and Board Thermal Insulation1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C 612; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A

Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers the classification, compos
3、ition,dimension, and physical properties of mineral fiber (rock, slag,or glass) semi-rigid and rigid board insulation for the use on0F (-18C) cooled surfaces and on heated surfaces up to1800F (982C). Specific applications outside the maximumand minimum temperature limits shall be agreed upon between
4、the supplier and the purchaser.1.2 For satisfactory performance, properly installed protec-tive vapor retarder or barriers shall be used on below ambienttemperature applications to reduce movement of moisturethrough or around the insulation to the colder surface. Failureto use a vapor barrier can le
5、ad to insulation and systemdamage. Refer to Practice C 921 to aid material selection.Although vapor retarder properties are not part of this specifi-cation, properties required in Specification C 1136 are perti-nent to applications or performance.1.3 The orientation of the fibers within the boards i
6、sprimarily parallel to the principal surface (face). This specifi-cation does not cover fabricated pipe and tank wrap insulationwhere the insulation has been cut and fabricated to provide afiber orientation that is perpendicular to the principal largesurface (face).1.4 This standard does not purport
7、 to provide the perfor-mance requirements of hourly-rated fire systems. Consult themanufacturer for the appropriate system.1.5 The values stated in inch-pound units shall be regardedas the standard. Classification4.1 Mineral fiber board insulation covered
21、by this specifi-cation shall be classified into seven types and two categories,shown in Table 1. This classification is based upon theinsulations maximum use temperature, maximum apparentthermal conductivity, minimum compressive resistance, maxi-mum linear shrinkage, maximum water vapor sorption, an
22、dmaximum surface burning characteristics.4.1.1 Category 1No compressive resistance (load-bearing) properties are required.4.1.2 Category 2Minimum compressive resistance (load-bearing) properties are required.4.1.3 Type V, Grade ARequires no heat-up schedule.4.1.4 Type V, Grade BHeat-up schedule is r
23、equired.NOTE 1Caution: Grade B may not be suitable for applicationsrequiring hot installation capability at the maximum temperature indi-cated. In general, products having a Grade B designation are designed tobe used with a heat-up schedule. Failure to use a heat-up schedule withGrade B products may
24、 lead to an exothermic reaction. This is dependenton thickness and temperature. Consult the manufacturer or manufacturersliterature for special heat rate considerations.5.
