For many thousands of years it was the one field of awareness about which humans had anything more than the vaguest of insights. When our Neolithic ancestors, living in the Middle East about 10,000 years ago, discovered that certain grasses could be harvested and their seeds planted for richer yields the next season, the first great step in a new associati

24、on of plants and humans was taken. Grains were discovered and from them flowed the marvel of agriculture: cultivated crops. From then on, humans would increasingly take their living from the controlled production of a few plants, rather than getting a little here and a little there from many varieti

47、ening. Your typical robber has none. He considers your property; he takes what he wants, including your life if you enrage him. The main cause of this break-down is a radical shift in attitudes. 48、l, its the criminal who is considered victimized: by his underprivileged upbringing, by the school that didnt teach him to read, by the church that failed to reach him with moral guidance, by the parents who didnt provide a stable home. If we free the criminal, even partly, from accountability, we become a society of endless excuses where no one accepts responsibility for anything.
