Scope*1.1 This specification covers solid, dry-cast, concrete build-ing brick intende

3、d for interior and exterior use in constructingstructural masonry, and are made from portland cement, water,and suitable mineral aggregates with or without the inclusionof other materials.NOTE 1Specification C1634 addresses concrete facing brick used infacing applications and other exposures (previo

4、usly referred to in earliereditions of this standard as Grade Nfor use as architectural veneer andfacing units in exterior walls and for use where high-strength andresistance to moisture penetration and severe frost action are desired). Thisspecification differs from C1634 in that it addresses prope

5、rties for concretebuilding brick used in non-facing, utilitarian applications (previouslyreferred to in earlier editions of this specification as Grade Sfor generaluse where moderate strength and resistance to frost action and moisturepenetration are required).1.2 The text of this specification refe

21、tal to the durability of the concrete masonry unitsor any material customarily used in masonry construction.5. Physical Requirements5.1 At the time of delivery to the purchaser, units shallconform to the physical requirements prescribed in Table 1.Allunits shall be sound and free of cracks or other

22、defects thatinterfere with the proper placement of the units or significantlyimpair the strength or permanence of the construction. Minorcracks incidental to the usual method of manufacture or minorchipping resulting from customary methods of handling inshipment and delivery are not grounds for reje

23、ction.5.1.1 When higher compressive strengths than those listedin Table 1 are specified, the tested average net area compres-sive strength of three units shall equal or exceed the specifiedcompressive strength, and the following single unit strengthrequirements shall apply.5.1.1.1 When the specified

24、 compressive strength is less than5000 psi, no single unit net area compressive strength testresult shall be less than the specified compressive strengthminus 500 psi.5.1.1.2 When the specified compressive strength is 5000 psior greater, no single unit net area compressive strength testresult shall

25、be less than 90 % of the specified compressivestrength.5.2 At the time of delivery to the purchaser, the total lineardrying shrinkage of units shall not exceed 0.065 % when testedin accordance with Test Method C426.NOTE 4The purchaser is the public body or authority, association,corporation, partner

26、ship, or individual entering into a contract or agree-ment to purchase or install, or both, concrete building brick. The time ofdelivery to the purchaser is FOB plant when the purchaser or thepurchasers agent transports the concrete building brick, or at the timeunloaded at the worksite if the manuf

27、acturer or the manufacturers agenttransports the concrete building brick.6. Dimensions and Permissible Variations6.1 No overall dimension (width, height, and length) shalldiffer by more than 618 in. (3.2 mm) from the specifiedstandard dimensions.NOTE 5Standard dimensions of concrete building brick a

28、re themanufacturers designated dimensions. Nominal dimensions of modularsize concrete building brick are equal to the standard dimensions plus thethickness of one mortar joint. Nominal dimensions of nonmodular sizeconcrete building brick usually exceed the standard dimensions by18 to14in. (3.2 to 6.

29、4 mm).6.2 CoringUnless otherwise specified, brick shall be ei-ther solid or cored at the option of the seller. For cored concretebuilding brick, the net cross-sectional area in any plane parallelto the surface containing the cores shall be at least 75 % of thegross cross-sectional area measure in th

30、e same plane. No partof any hole shall be less than34 in. (19.1 mm) from any edgeof the unit.7. Finish and Appearance7.1 No more than 5 % of the units in the shipment shallexhibit one or more of the characteristics described in 7.1.1 and7.1.2.7.1.1 Units with dimensions not meeting the requirementso

Methods of Sampling and Testing8.1 The purchaser or authorized representative shall beaccorded proper facilities to inspect and sample the concretebuilding brick at the place of manufacture from the lots readyfor delivery.8.2 Compressive strength, absorption, den

32、sity, and dimen-sional tolerances shall be based on tests of concrete buildingbrick of any configuration or dimensions made with the samematerials, concrete mix design, manufacturing process, andcuring method, conducted in accordance with Test MethodsC140 and within 12 months of production of the un

Compliance9.1 If a sample fails to conform to the specifiedrequirements, the manufacturer shall be permitted to removeunits from the shipment. A new sample shall be se

37、lected by thepurchaser from remaining units from the shipment with asimilar configuration and dimension and tested at the expenseof the manufacturer. If the second sample meets the specifiedrequirements, the remaining portion of the shipment repre-sented by the sample meets the specified requirement

If thesecond sample fails to meet the specified requirements, theremaining portion of the shipment represented by the samplefails to meet the specified requirements.NOTE 6Unless otherwise specified in the purchase order, the costs oftests is typically borne as follows: (1) if the results of the t
