Scope*1.1 This practice covers the minimum requirements andprocedures for field or prefabricated applic

3、ation of Class PBExterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) and EIFS withDrainage. Class PB EIFS are systems applied over insulationboard, in which the base coat ranges from not less than116 in.(1.6 mm) to14 in. (6.4 mm) in dry thickness, depending uponthe number of nonmetallic reinforcing mesh l

4、ayers encapsu-lated in the base coat (see Specification E 2568). The base coatis then covered with a finish coat of varying thickness in avariety of textures and colors. EIFS with Drainage provides amechanism to drain incidental moisture1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas

Significance and Use4.1 This practice provides minimum requirements for theapplication of Class PB EIFS and EIFS with Drainage (seeSpecification E 2568). The requirements

16、 for materials, mix-tures, and details shall be contained in the project plans andspecifications. See Guide E 1825 for guidance.5. Delivery of Materials5.1 All materials shall be delivered in packages, containers,or bundles with the identification and markings intact.6. Inspection6.1 Inspection of t

17、he materials shall be agreed upon betweenthe purchaser and the supplier as part of the purchase agree-ment.6.2 Inspection shall verify that the EIFS materials suppliedare as required for the Class PB EIF System or EIFS withDrainage System specified. Mixing of EIFS materials fromdifferent manufacture

18、rs is not allowed.7. Rejection7.1 Materials that are damaged, frozen or in any waydefective shall not be used. Rejection of materials shall bepromptly reported verbally to the manufacturer and immedi-ately reported in writing. The notice of rejection shall containa statement documenting the basis fo

19、r material rejection.8. Certification8.1 When specified in the contract documents, the producershall furnish a report certifying that the materials are inconformance with product and material standards and contractdocuments.8.2 Insulation Boards:8.2.1 Insulation boards shall comply with Specificatio

20、nE 2430.8.2.2 The insulation boards shall have been subjected to athird party quality control inspection and shall be marked asapproved for use within the EIFS.8.2.3 Prior to installation, the insulation board shall beinspected for conformance with contract documents. Noncon-forming insulation board

21、 shall not be used.8.2.4 The insulation board manufacturer shall furnish, foreach shipment, a written certificate of conformance with theEIFS manufacturers specifications.9. Storage of Materials9.1 All materials shall be kept dry by storage under coverand protected from the weather. When outside sto

22、rage isrequired, materials shall be stacked off the ground, supportedon a level platform and protected from the weather, surfacecontamination or physical damage in accordance with the EIFSmanufacturers written instructions.9.2 Materials shall be protected from exposure to directsunlight and temperat

23、ures less than 40 F (4 C), unlessotherwise specified by the manufacturer.9.3 Portland Cement shall meet Specification C 150 andshall be kept dry until ready for use. It shall be kept off theground, under cover and away from damp walls and surfaces.9.4 Insulation board shall be stacked flat with care

24、 taken toavoid damage to edges, ends, or surfaces; or exposure to directsunlight (ultraviolet radiation).10. Environmental Conditions10.1 Cold Weather Conditions:10.1.1 Wet materials shall not be applied when the tempera-ture is less than 40 F (4 C), unless otherwise specified by themanufacturer, un

25、less temporary heat and enclosures are pro-vided to maintain minimum 40 F (4 C) for a minimum periodof not less than 24 h before, during, and after application (seeAnnex A1.9.3).10.1.2 Materials shall not be applied to a base containingfrost. Substrate surface temperature shall be not less than 40 F

26、(4 C). Mixtures for application shall not contain any frozeningredients.11. Assessment of Condition of Substrates to ReceiveWater-Resistive Barrier Coating (if applicable) orExterior Insulation and Finish Systems or Both11.1 The substrate shall be as required by the project plansand specifications a

27、nd as recommended by the EIFS manufac-turer for the particular system specified.11.1.1 Insulation boards shall be as required by the EIFSmanufacturers specification and in the thickness specified.11.2 The substrate shall be inspected by the applicator andgeneral contractor to ensure that it meets th

28、e project plans andspecifications and the requirements of 11.3-11.8.11.3 Sheathing materials shall be inspected to ensure that:11.3.1 The specified sheathing thickness has been installedfor the stud spacing used.11.3.2 Fastener type and fastener spacing are as specified.11.3.3 All Specification C 13

29、96/C 1396M gypsum sheath-ing boards shall have a water-resistant core.11.3.4 Tongue and groove water-resistant treated core gyp-sum sheathing boards conforming to Specification C 1396/C 1396M shall be installed with the tongue edge oriented to thetop.11.3.5 Gypsum sheathing shall be installed in acc

30、ordancewith Specification C 1280.11.3.6 Gypsum sheathing shall be protected from moistureat all penetrations and terminations.11.3.7 Glass mat gypsum sheathing complying with Speci-fication C 1177/C 1177M shall be installed in accordance withthe sheathing manufacturers written installation instructi

31、ons,which include details of framing type and spacing, fastenertype and spacing, and sheathing orientation and spacing.11.3.8 Plywood shall be not less than12 in. (12.7 mm)nominal in thickness, exterior or exposure 1 wood-based panelsheathing. The plywood shall be installed with a18 in. (3.2mm) spac

32、e between sheets.11.3.9 Oriented Strand Board (OSB) shall be nominal716 in.(11.1 mm) thick APA Exposure 1 rated.11.3.10 Fiber-cement sheets complying with SpecificationC 1186, Type A, shall be installed in accordance with the sheetmanufacturers written installation instructions, which includedetails

33、 of stud type and spacing, fastener type and spacing, andsheet spacing recommendations.C139709211.3.11 Water-resistant exterior fiber-reinforced gypsumsheathing complying with Specification C 1278/C 1278M shallbe installed in accordance with the sheathing manufacturerswritten installation instructio

34、ns, which include details of studtype and spacing, fastener type and spacing, and sheathingorientation and spacing.11.3.12 Fiber-mat reinforced cement sheets complying withSpecification C 1325, type A, shall be installed in accordancewith the sheet manufacturers written installation instructions,whi

35、ch include details of framing type and spacing, fastenertype and spacing, and sheet orientation and spacing.11.3.13 Sheathing shall be continuous.11.4 AlignmentAll substrate surfaces shall be straight andtrue within14 in. (6.4 mm) in 10 ft (3048 mm). More stringentrequirements by the EIFS manufactur

36、er shall supersede theabove stated requirements.11.5 Suitability for UseThe substrate surface shall befirm, sound, and undamaged in order to receive the Water-Resistive Barrier Coating or EIFS.11.5.1 Loose, spalling or crumbling concrete or masonryshall be removed by sandblasting or other appropriat

37、e means.If the surface condition of the substrate is at all in doubt, analternative attachment surface or method shall be provided.11.5.2 Broken, cracked or delaminated substrate boardsshall be replaced or restored to a condition equal to adjacentundamaged boards.11.5.3 All rotted, decayed, or delam

38、inated wood and ply-wood sheathing shall be replaced.11.5.4 Paper-faced gypsum sheathing that has been installedand exposed to the elements for more than 30 days shall bechecked at not less than two locations, or every 5000 ft2(465m2), whichever is greater, for integrity of the surface. Theprocedure

39、s for evaluating the gypsum sheathing are found inAnnex A2.NOTE 1Gypsum sheathing conforming to Specification C 1396/C 1396M is sometimes not recommended for adhesive attachment by thegypsum sheathing manufacturer. Consult with the gypsum board manu-facturer before use.11.6 CleanlinessThe surface of

40、 all substrates shall beclean and free from any foreign materials such as paint, formrelease agents, curing compounds, dust, dirt, frost, oil orgrease, efflorescence and laitance that would affect the EIFS orEIFS with Drainage application.11.6.1 All sheathing board substrates shall have all loosedir

41、t and dust removed by cleaning methods appropriate for thejob and job conditions.11.6.2 Efflorescence and laitance on concrete, masonry,stucco or clay tile substrates shall be removed prior to EIFSapplication. Concrete masonry shall be cleaned by light sand-blasting, pressure washing, or brushing. H

42、eavy deposits shallbe removed through use of hand or power impact toolsfollowed by washing with an appropriate cleaner. Light depos-its shall be removed by washing with an appropriate cleaner.All loose particles and cleaner residue shall be removed bywashing with clean, potable water. The surface sh

43、all beallowed to dry.11.6.3 Existing paint on concrete or masonry surfaces shallbe removed by sandblasting or grit blasting. If removal ofexisting paint is not practical, an alternate attachment surfaceor method shall be provided.11.7 Dryness:11.7.1 Newly constructed concrete or masonry surfacesshal

44、l be allowed to cure for a minimum of 28 days prior toapplication of the EIFS or EIFS with Drainage. Repaired areason existing (aged) walls shall meet the same 28-day curingtime.11.7.2 Sheathing must be dry prior to EIFS or EIFS withDrainage application.11.7.3 Substrate surfaces shall be free of vis

45、ible water.11.8 Metal LathIf metal lath is used, it shall be installedin conformance with Specification C 1063, except lath edgesshall be butted, not lapped. Metal lath shall be 3.4 lb/yd2(1.3kg/m2) or 2.5 lb/yd2(1.0 kg/m2), self furring or flat, G 60galvanized.11.8.1 Metal members shall be properly

46、 attached, straight,and true unless required by the system design.11.8.2 Metal members shall be free of rust, oil, or otherforeign matter or contaminants, which cause bond failure orunsightly discoloration.12. Water-Resistive Barrier (WRB) Coating (WhenSpecified) (See Test Methods E 2570)12.1 Manufa

47、cturers Recommended Joint Treatment (notrequired with concrete or masonry substrates)NOTE 2Joint treatment materials and methods differ among manufac-turers. Some manufacturers use self-adhesive membrane tapes and othersuse fluid-applied flexible coatings with embedded reinforcing mesh orfabric.12.1

48、.1 For sheathing substrates, apply manufacturers rec-ommended treatment along all joints in sheathing, inside andoutside corners, and exposed edges of sheathing at termina-tions in accordance with manufacturers recommended details .12.1.2 Center the treatment on sheathing joints, edges, etc.For self

49、-adhesive membrane tapes and self-adhesive mesh,apply with the pressure-sensitive adhesive backing in contactwith the sheathing surface.12.1.3 When applicable, use a stainless steel trowel orspatula to apply water-resistive barrier coating over tape andspot all fastener heads. (Spotting of fasteners is not requiredwhen applying water-resistive barrier with a trowel.)12.1.4 After the first pass has dried, check joints and spotany voids that may be present with additional coating toachieve a continuous film.12.2 Water-Resistive Barrier Coating12.2.1 Roller
