Scope1.1 This test method covers the sampling, preparation ofspecimens, and determination of the absorption of architecturalcast stone.1.2 This test met

3、hod describes two procedures: (1) coldwater and (2) boiling water. The user of the test method shouldstipulate which is desired. If no stipulation is made, the coldwater procedure will be used.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. I

Terminology3.1 Definition:3.1.1 cast stonean architectural precast concrete buildingunit intended to simulate natural cut stone.4. Significance and Use4.1 This te

6、st method is to be used in determining theabsorption of cast stone. Absorption is one measure of porosityof cast stone and, hence, its resistance to weathering andstructural stress.5. Sampling5.1 Select the sample to represent the cast stone underconsideration. The sample may be randomly selected by

7、 thepurchaser or his authorized representative from each 500 ft3(14m3) of cast stone. Select a sample of adequate size to permit thepreparation of three absorption test specimens.6. Test Specimens6.1 For absorption tests take three specimens from thesample. Cut specimens from the finished surface of

8、 the sampleto consist of one surface intended to be exposed to view andfive saw-cut surfaces, except that for faced cast stone, cut thespecimens through the faced surface to consist of approxi-mately equal parts of the facing material and the backupmaterial.6.2 Cut specimens from the sample with saw

9、s. The testspecimens shall be 2-in. (50.8-mm) or 50-mm cubes. Theallowable size tolerance of the cubes shall be 618 in. (3.2 mm).7. Conditioning7.1 For this test, oven dry specimens at a temperature of 100to 110C (212 to 230F) until the loss in mass is not more than0.1 % in 24 h of drying. Remove sp

10、ecimens from the oven andallow to cool in room temperature to a final temperature of 20to 25C (68 to 77F) before testing for absorption.8. Procedure8.1 Weigh the specimens immediately after conditioningand determine the mass to the nearest 0.1 g.8.2 Method A, Cold Water TestImmerse the specimenscomp

11、letely in filtered or distilled water at 236 1.7C (73.4 63F) for 48 h. At the end of this period, remove them from thewater bath one at a time, surface dry with a damp cloth, anddetermine the mass to the nearest 0.1 g.8.3 Method B, Boiling Water TestImmerse the specimenscompletely in cold filtered o

12、r distilled water for 48 h and thenimmerse in boiling water at 100 6 5C (2126 9F) for 5 h.Allow the specimens to cool to a final temperature of 20 to25C (68 to 77F), surface dry, and weigh to the nearest 0.1 g.9. Calculations9.1 Calculate the absorption of each specimen as follows:absorption, mass %

Theprecision of this test method will be stated when data becomeavailable.11.2 BiasSince there is no accepted reference materialsuitable for determining the
