Scope*1.1 This specification covers commercial zinc alloys iningot form for remelting for the manufacture of dies

3、 and moldsfrom the alloys as shown in Table 1.1.2 This specification presents requirements for zinc alloyssuitable for the production of sand cast or plaster cast formingdies for sheet metal stamping operations and plastic injectionmolding. Alloy A is intended for use in the fabrication of diesfor s

4、heet metal stamping under drop hammer and hydraulicpressure. Alloy B is a special purpose alloy of closely con-trolled composition and is primarily used in the manufacture ofplastic injection molds.1.3 This specification covers two zinc alloys which arespecified and designated as follows:UNS ASTM Tr

Ordering Information4.1 Orders for ingots under this specification shall includethe following information:4.1.1

17、Quantity in pounds,4.1.2 Alloy (Table 1),4.1.3 Size, if not manufacturers standard,4.1.4 Specification number and date,4.1.5 Source inspection (Section 7), and4.1.6 Marking (Section 9).5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 The alloys may be made by any approved process.5.2 The material covered by this spe

18、cification shall be ofuniform quality and shall be free from dross, slag, or otherharmful contamination.5.3 Jumbo or block ingots shall conform to configurationshown in Specification B897, or to a shape and size previouslyagreed upon.5.4 Material produced under this specification shall conformwith t

19、he General Requirements of Specification B949, unlessotherwise noted in this specification.6. Chemical Requirements6.1 LimitsThe alloy shall conform to the requirements asto chemical composition prescribed in Table 1. Conformanceshall be determined by the producer by analyzing samplestaken at the ti

20、me the ingots are made. If the producer hasdetermined the chemical composition of the metal during thecourse of manufacture, he shall not be required to sample andanalyze the finished product.6.2 In case of dispute, the following requirements shallapply:6.2.1 Number of SamplesSamples for verificatio

21、n ofchemical composition shall be taken as follows:6.2.2 If the ingots are shipped in carload lots of the samealloy, not less than five ingots shall be taken at random fromthe carload for sampling. If the shipment is less than a carloadlot, one sample ingot shall be taken for each 10 000 lb (4 500kg

22、) or fraction thereof. When it is deemed necessary, a samplemay be taken from each melt of 1 000 lb (450 kg) or more.6.3 Methods of SamplingSamples from ingots for deter-mination of chemical composition shall be taken in accordancewith one of the following methods:6.3.1 Samples for chemical analysis

23、 shall be taken from thematerial by drilling, sawing, milling, turning, or clipping arepresentative piece or pieces to obtain weight of preparedsample not less than 100 g. Sampling shall be in accordancewith Practice E88.6.3.2 By agreement, an optional method of sampling foranalysis may be by meltin

24、g together representative portions ofeach ingot selected, and then sampling the liquid composite bycasting suitable specimens for either spectrographic or chemi-cal analysis.6.4 Method of AnalysisThe determination of chemicalcomposition shall be made in accordance with Test MethodsE536,orISO 3815-1,

25、orISO 3815-2 or other methods. In caseof dispute, the results secured by Test Methods E536,orISO 3815-1,orISO 3815-2 shall be the basis of acceptance.7. Source Inspection7.1 If the purchaser desires that his representative inspect orwitness the inspection and testing of the product prior toshipment,

26、 such agreement shall be made by the purchaser andproducer or supplier as part of the contract or purchase order.7.2 When such inspection or witness of inspection andtesting is agreed upon, the producer or supplier shall afford thepurchasers representative all reasonable facilities to satisfyhim tha

27、t the product meets the requirements of this specifica-tion. Inspection and tests shall be conducted so there is nounnecessary interference with the producers operations.8. Rejection and Rehearing8.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements of thisspecification may be rejected. Rejection s

28、hould be reported tothe producer or supplier promptly and in writing. In case ofdissatisfaction with the results of the test, the producer orsupplier may make claim for a rehearing. If the rehearingestablishes that the material does not conform to the require-ments of this specification, as much of

29、the rejected originalmaterial as possible shall be returned to the producer orsupplier.9. Identification Marking9.1 All ingots shall be properly marked for identificationwith the producers name or brand.9.2 Each bundle or skid shall be identified with the produc-ers heat, lot, or other identificatio

30、n mark.9.3 Each ingot, bundle or skid shall be marked with theappropriate Color Code for the alloy as per North Americanrequirements in Practice B908.10. Preparation for Delivery10.1 PackagingUnless otherwise specified, the ingot shallbe packaged to provide adequate protection during normalhandling

31、and transportation. Each package shall contain onlyone alloy unless otherwise agreed upon.11.
