Ordering Information3.1 Orders for material under this specification shall includethe following information:3.1.1 Quantity of each size and section,
6、3.1.2 Wire size: circular-mil area (Section 6, Fig. 1 or Fig.2),3.1.3 Shape of section (Section 1),3.1.4 Type of copper, if special (Section 4),3.1.5 Package size (see 14.3),3.1.6 Lagging, if required (see 14.1),3.1.7 Relation between vertical axis of grooved wire andaxis of reel (see 14.1),3.1.8 Si
7、ze of arbor hole if other than for a 212-in. (64-mm)shaft (see 14.2),3.1.9 Special package marking, if required (see 14.4), and3.1.10 Place of inspection (Section 12).4. Materials and Manufacturer4.1 The material shall be copper of such quality and puritythat the finished product shall have the prop
8、erties and charac-teristics prescribed in this specification.NOTE 1Specification B49 defines the materials suitable for use.4.2 Copper bars of special qualities, forms, or types, as maybe agreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser,and that will conform to the requirements prescribed in t
9、hisspecification may also be used.5. Tensile Properties5.1 Figure-8 wire shall conform to the requirements as totensile properties specified in Table 1.5.2 Figure-9 deep-section grooved wire shall conform to therequirements as to tensile properties specified in Table 2.5.3 Tests on a specimen of wir
10、e containing a joint shallshow at least 95 % of the tensile strength specified in Table 1or Table 2, as may be applicable. Elongation tests shall not bemade on specimens containing joints.5.4 Tension tests shall be made on representative samples.The elongation shall be determined as the permanent in
11、creasein length, due to the breaking of the wire in tension, measuredbetween gage marks placed originally 10 in. apart upon the testspecimen (Explanatory Note 1). The fracture shall be betweenthe gage marks and not closer than 1 in. (25 mm) to either gagemark.5.5 The twist test shall be omitted.6. S
12、ections6.1 Standard sections of figure-8 trolley wire shall be thoseshown in Fig. 1.6.2 Standard sections of figure-9 deep-section grooved trol-ley wire shall be those shown in Fig. 2.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee B01 onElectrical Conductors and is the direct respon

Dimensions and Permissible Variations7.1 The size shall be expressed as the nominal area of crosssection in circular mils.7.2 The standard sizes of figure
17、-8 trolley wire shall be asspecified in Fig. 1.7.3 The standard sizes of figure-9 deep-section groovedtrolley wire shall be as specified in Fig. 2.7.4 The weight in pounds per mile in figure-8 and figure-9trolley wire calculated from the weight of a specimen not lessthan 18 in. (457 mm) in length sh
18、all not vary more than 65%from that specified in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, respectively.7.5 Conformance of the trolley wire to the specified dimen-sions shall be determined by taking the measurements shown inFig. 1 and Fig. 2 under heading, “Dimensions for Inspection,in.” The shape of the groove for figure
19、-9 trolley wire shall bechecked with the“ go” and“ no-go” slip gages described in Fig.3. The gages shall be applied to the ends of the samples takenfrom each reel. Samples shall be clean and ends free fromburrs. The groove shall be considered as conforming to thisspecification if the “go” gage can b
20、e pushed on the straightenedwire by hand and the “no-go” gage cannot be pushed on thewire.8. Resistivity8.1 Electrical resistivity shall be determined on representa-tive samples by resistance measurements (Explanatory Note 2).At a temperature of 20C the resistivity shall not exceed900.77 lb/mile.28.
21、2 The electrical resistivity of the material shall be deter-mined in accordance with Test Method B193.9. Density9.1 For the purpose of calculating weights, cross sections,etc., the density of the copper shall be taken as 8.89 g/cm3(0.32117 lb/in.3) at 20C (Explanatory Note 3).10. Joints10.1 No joint
22、s shall be made in the completed wire. Joints inthe wire and rods made prior to final drawings shall be inaccordance with the best commercial practice, and shall becapable of meeting the tensile strength requirements in 5.3.11. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance11.1 The wire shall be of uniform siz
23、e, shape, and qualitythroughout, and shall be free from all scale, flaws, splits, andscratches not consistent with the best commercial practice.12. Inspection12.1 All tests governing the acceptance or rejection of thewire, unless otherwise specified, shall be made at the place ofmanufacture with app
