Scope*1.1 This specification covers requirements for forged steelshapes for highly stressed structural members requiring yieldstrengths in ex
3、cess of 140 ksi 965 MPa.1.2 This specification is not intended for applications lim-ited by creep deformation.1.3 Twenty-seven grades are covered by this specification.Selection will depend upon design, service conditions, andmechanical properties required.1.4 Supplementary requirements are provided
4、 for use whenadditional testing or inspection is desired. These shall applyonly when specified individually by the purchaser in the order.1.5 The values stated in either inch-pound or SI (metric)units are to be regarded separately as standards. Within the textand tables, the SI units are shown in br
5、ackets. The values ineach system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each systemmust be used independently of each other. Combining valuesfrom the two systems may result in non-conformance with thespecification.1.6 Unless the order specifies the applicable “M” specifica-tion designation, the mater

Ordering Information and General Requirements3.1 In addition to the ordering information required bySpecification A 788, the purchaser shall include with theinquiry and order
9、 a detailed drawing, sketch, or writtendescription of the forging.3.2 Material supplied to this specification shall conform tothe requirements of Specification A 788, which outlines addi-tional ordering information, manufacturing requirements, test-ing and retesting methods and procedures, marking,
10、certifica-tion, product analysis variations, and additional supplementaryrequirements.3.3 If the requirements of this specification are in conflictwith the requirements of Specification A 788, the requirementsof this specification shall prevail.4. Materials and Manufacture4.1 The steel shall be made
11、 in accordance with the MeltingProcess Section of Specification A 788. A sufficient discardshall be made to secure freedom from injurious pipe and unduesegregation.4.2 The material shall be forged as close as practical to thespecified shape and size.4.3 The finished product shall be a hot-worked for
12、ging asdefined by Specification A 788.4.4 Heat Treatment Performed by Forging SupplierForgings may be furnished in one of the following conditionsas specified in the inquiry and purchase order (some conditionsare not applicable to all grades):4.4.1 Stress relieved,4.4.2 Annealed,4.4.3 Solution treat
13、ed,4.4.4 Solution treated and aged,4.4.5 Normalized,4.4.6 Normalized and tempered, or4.4.7 Quenched and tempered.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee A01 on Steel,Stainless Steel and Related Alloys and is the direct responsibility of SubcommitteeA01.06 on Steel Forgings an

16、ormed by PurchaserWhen finalheat treatment is to be performed by the purchaser aftermachining or fabrication, or both, a capability heat treatmentduplicating the purchasers final heat treatment must be per-formed by the supplier on representative samples (see 6.3)toqualify the forgings. The results
17、of these capability tests shallconform to the requirements of Table 1 and Table 2. See alsoTable 3.5. Chemical Requirements Chemical Requirements5.1 Heat AnalysisThe heat analysis obtained from sam-pling in accordance with SpecificationA 788 shall comply withTable 4.5.2 Product AnalysisThe product a
18、nalysis provisions ofSpecification A 788 may be used by the purchaser.6. Mechanical Properties6.1 The material shall conform to the mechanical propertiesspecified in Table 1, when ordered to 4.4.4 or 4.4.7. For theother heat treatments specified in 4.4, the provisions of 4.5apply.6.2 Tension tests a
19、re required for all material ordered to thisspecification. However, room-temperature Charpy V-notch im-pact tests are required only for those grades which haveminimum impact strength requirements listed in Table 2.6.3 Tests shall be conducted in accordance with the latestissue of Test Methods and De
20、finitions A 370. The largestobtainable tension test specimen as specified in Test Methodsand Definitions A 370 shall be used.
