Scope*1.1 This specification2covers nominal
3、 (average) wall seam-less and welded carbon and alloy steel pipe intended for use atlow temperatures. Several grades of ferritic steel are includedas listed in Table 1. Some product sizes may not be availableunder this specification because heavier wall thicknesses havean adverse affect on low-tempe
4、rature impact properties.1.2 Supplementary Requirement S1 of an optional nature isprovided. This shall apply only when specified by the pur-chaser.1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, theSI units are shown in brackets
5、. The values stated in eachsystem may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each systemshall be used independently of the other. Materials and Manufacture4.1 ManufactureExcept as provi
16、ded in paragraph 4.2, thepipe shall be made by the seamless or welding process with theaddition of no filler metal in the welding operation. Grade 4shall be made by the seamless process.NOTE 2For electric-fusion-welded pipe, with filler metal added,fabricated of pressure vessel quality plates, see S
17、pecification A671.4.2 Grade 11 pipe may be produced by welding with orwithout the addition of filler metal.The following requirementsshall apply for Grade 11 welded with the addition of fillermetal.4.2.1 The joints shall be full-penetration, full fusion double-welded or single-welded butt joints emp
18、loying fusion weldingprocesses as defined in “Definitions,” ASME Boiler andPressure Vessel Code, Section IX. This specification makes noprovision for any difference in weld quality requirementsregardless of the weld joint type employed (single or double) inmaking the weld. Where backing strips are e
19、mployed, the ringor strip material shall be the same as the plate being joined.Backing rings or strips shall be completely removed afterwelding, prior to any required radiography, and the exposedweld surface shall be examined visually for conformance to therequirements of 4.2.2. Welds made by proced
20、ures employingbacking strips or rings which remain in place are prohibited.Welding procedures and welding operators shall be qualified inaccordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section IX.4.2.2 The weld surface on either side of the weld may beflush with the base plate or may have a rea
21、sonably uniformcrown, not to exceed18 in. 3 mm. Any weld reinforcementmay be removed at the manufacturers option or by agreementbetween the manufacturer and purchaser. The contour of thereinforcement shall be reasonably smooth and free fromirregularities. The deposited metal shall be fused uniformly
22、into the plate surface. No concavity of contour is permittedunless the resulting thickness of weld metal is equal to orgreater than the minimum thickness of the adjacent base metal.4.2.3 Radiographic ExaminationAll welded joints shallbe fully radiographed in accordance with the requirements ofthe AS
23、ME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII,Division 1, latest edition, paragraph UW-51.4.2.3.1 As an alternative, the welded joints may be ultra-sonically examined in accordance with Appendix 12 of theASME Boiler and PressureVessel Code, SectionVIII, Division1.4.2.4 Repair WeldingWeld metal de
24、fects shall be repairedby removal to sound metal and repair welding if approved bythe purchaser.4.2.4.1 The repair shall be blended smoothly into thesurrounding base metal surface and examined by the magneticparticle examination in accordance with Practice E709,orbythe liquid penetrant method in acc
