1、INCH-POUND A-A-52507 November 3, 1994 SUPERSEDING (see 5.4) COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION CHAIN ASSEMBLY AND CROSS CHAIN, TIRE: FOR MILITARY VEHICLES The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description (CID) for all federal agencies. 1. SCOPE This CID covers

2、tire chain assemblies and replacement cross chains with cross chain hooks for use on military tactical wheeled vehicles equipped with military single pneumatic tires. Tire chain assemblies are referred to herein as “chain assemblies“. 1.1 Description. Each chain assembly is comprised of two side cha

3、ins and the required number of cross chains for each tire. Cross chain hooks are used to connect the cross chains to the side chains. Side chain fasteners are used to connect the ends of each side chain. Replacement cross chains are used to repair chain assemblies. 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 2.1 Mat

4、erials. All tire chain components shall be made of carbon steel, Unified Numbering System (UNS) grade G10060 through 610200, except for the cross chain hooks. The cross chain hooks shall be carbon steel, UNS grade G10120 through G10220, and shall be stress relieved after cold forming. The use of rec

5、overed materials made in compliance with regulatory requirements is acceptable providing that all requirements of this CID are met (see 5.5). Cross chains shall be case hardened by carburi

7、zing or carbonitriding to a case depth as specified in NACM-5179(TC) and shall have 2 Rockwell hardness C53 minimum or equivalent. 2.3 Design and construction. Unless otherwise specified herein, chain assembly components shall conform to the requirements specified in NACM-5179(TC), such as wire size

8、s, dimensions, and tolerances. 2.3.1 Chain assemblies. Chain assemblies shall be comprised of side chains, cross chains, side chain fasteners, and cross chain hooks as illustrated in figure 1. Chain assemblies shall be constructed and selected for the tire sizes listed in table I. For the tire sizes

9、 listed in table II, chain assemblies shall conform to the requirements as specified in table 11. 2.3.1.1 Cross chains. Cross chains shall be constructed of regular, twist link chain. 2.3.1.2 Side chain fasteners. Side chain fasteners shall provide a secure attachment to one side chain end, and shal

10、l provide a quick, secure lock to the other side chain end. The lock shall be readily opened and closed. Side chain fasteners shall not be open-type keeper links.
