3、 type mounting configuration need to comply with the jarringrequirements delineated in 46.1 and 46.3. The jarring force for these types of mounted products shall beapplied directly to the product as described below.The product is to be mounted as intended. An impact of 4.08 J (3 ft-lb) is to be appl

4、ied directlyto any non-display area of the product by means of a 535 g (1.18 lb.), 51-mm (2 inch) diametersteel sphere swung through a pendulum arc from a height (h) of 775 mm (2.54 feet). Theat-rest suspension point of the steel sphere is to be 25.4 mm (1 inch) in front of the plane of theproduct t

5、o be impacted.Wall mounted products weighing more than 30 lbs. may be subjected to the direct impact method or themethod described in 46.2. The direct impact shall be applied to the center of the side of the productintended to be adjacent to the mounting surface during intended mounting.RATIONALE FO

6、R DECISION:The products investigated to this standard utilize a variety of mounting configurations. While the jarringrequirements apply to all products, the standard only describes a test method for wall and ceiling mountedproducts. The test method needs to include free standing and desktop mounted

7、products. For these lattertypes of products, the impact will be directly applied to the product.In some cases involving wall and ceiling mounted products, the size and weight of the product also makethe current test method described difficult to impossible to conduct. The Jarring Test is being revis

8、edfurther to permit either the current method or the direct impact method to be employed on products havingsufficient mass. A demarcation point of 30 lbs. was chosen for this option because laboratory testingindicated that the direct impact jarring force produced the same shift on products weighing

9、30 lbs. or moreas when the same product was mounted on the plywood.
