6、nation (3.3.5), added temsile testing strain rate (3.3.6.1), revises surface quality (3.4.2), testing frequency (4.2), reporting (4.4) and identification (5.2). 1. SCOPE1.1 Form This specification covers an aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in the form of bars, forgings, mechanical tubing, flash wel
7、ded rings, and stock for forging or flash welded rings. 1.2 Application These products have been used typically for heat treated parts, which may be welded during fabrication, requiring through-hardening to high strength levels and which may be used at operational stress levels approaching the yield
8、 strength, but usage is not limited to such applications. 2. 16、EMENTS 3.1 Composition Shall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1, determined by wet chemical methods in accordance with ASTM E350, by spectrochemical methods, or by other analytical methods acceptable to purchaser. 18、e product shall be supplied in the following condition; hardness and tensile strength shall be determined in accordance with ASTM A370: 3.2.1 Bars Bar shall not be cut from plate. (also see 4.4.2.) 3.2.1.1 Bars 0.500 Inch (12.70 mm) and Under in Nominal Diameter or Least Distance Between Parallel Si
19、des Cold finished having tensile strength not higher than 140 ksi (965 MPa), or equivalent hardness (see 8.2). 3.2.1.2 Bars Over 0.500 Inch (12.70 mm) in Nominal Diameter or Least Distance Between Parallel Sides Hot finished and annealed, unless otherwise ordered, having hardness not higher than 248
20、 HB, or equivalent (see 8.3). Bars ordered cold finished may have hardness as high as 262 HB, or equivalent (see 8.3). 3.2.2 Forgings and Flash Welded Rings Normalized at 1600 F to 1700 F ( 871 C to 927 C) and tempered to a hardness not higher than 269 HB, or equivalent (see 8.3). 3.2.2.1 Flash weld
21、ed rings shall not be supplied unless specified or permitted on purchasers part drawing. When supplied, rings shall be manufactured in accordance with AMS7496. 3.2.3 Mechanical Tubing Cold finished, unless otherwise ordered, having hardness not higher than 25 HRC, or equivalent (see 8.3). Tubing ord
22、ered hot finished and annealed shall have hardness not higher than 99 HRB, or equivalent (see 8.3). 3.2.4 Stock for Forging or Flash Welded Rings As ordered by the forging or flash welded ring manufacturer. 3.3 Properties The product shall conform to the following requirements; hardness and tensile
23、testing shall be performed in accordance with ASTM A370: SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS6430J Page 4 of 9 3.3.1 Macrostructure Visual examination of transverse full cross-sections from bars, billets, tube rounds, and stock for forging or flash welded rings, etched in hot hydrochloric acid, in accordance with
24、ASTM E381, shall show no pipe or cracks. Porosity, segregation, inclusions, and other imperfections shall be no worse than the ASTM E381 macrograph ratings shown in Table 2.
