This policy is

11、the result of a proposal circulated April 20, 1981, and subsequently approved by engineering departments worldwide. Split (Cotter) Pins - Extended Prong To be Replaced Service Replacement Plain finish (PLN) Because of the superior shelf life, zinc trivalent finish (ZN6A) is recommended for service.

12、Phosphate Coating Finish (PHC) Zinc trivalent finish (ZN6A) All lengths below one inch with 1/16th inch increments, sub the next longer 1/8th inch increment. Example: 3/8th inch for 5/16 inch. All lengths above 1 inch with 1/8th inch increments sub the next longer 1/4 inch increment. Example: 1-1/4

13、inch for 1-1/8 inch. 5.0 HEAD: The contour of the head will be optional with the manufacturer provided the specified dimensions are maintained and there is no sharp indentation at the juncture of head and shank. 6.0 POINTS: The ends of points will not be open and any gaps occurring between the prong

14、s along the shank portion of pins beyond the point will not exceed .015 inch. The lateral misalignment of prongs over the entire length of shank will not exceed .015 inch. JUNE 2015 Page 3 of 6 7.0 LENGTH: The length (L) will be measured parallel to the axis of the pin, from the plane of contac

16、t of a ring gage with the head of pin to the end of the shortest prong. The ring gage will have a hole or diameter equal to the nominal pin size within a tolerance of .001 inch. The permissible break or rounding at the gaging edges of hole will not exceed .005 inch. Length measurement will be taken

17、with pin inserted into gage under finger force not to exceed 8 oz. 8.0 TOLERANCE ON LENGTH: The tolerance on length will be as tabulated below: Nominal Pin Length Tolerance Length Up to 1 inch .03 inch 1 inch and longer .06 inch 9.0 WIRE SECTION: The material will be rolled or drawn from wire having

18、 a half round section, the flat side of which preferably will have a small degree of rounding (a radius equal to 7.5 to 10 percent of the minimum pin diameter) at the edges rather than sharp corners. 10.0 MATERIAL: Stainless Steel (SST) - Type 18-8 per MPAPS A-37. Type 18-8 are nonmagnetic general p

19、urpose stainless with excellent corrosion resistance and will be *passivated per MPAPS A-37. Steel (STL) MPAPS A-0, Part II, Code 0-100 Brass (BRS) CEMS C-3, Grade C26000 11.0 DUCTILITY: Each prong of the cotter pin will be capable of withstanding being bent back upon itself (180 degrees) once with

20、no visible indication of fracture occurring at the point of bend. 12.0 FINISHES: In accordance with MPAPS and class below: Plain (PLN). Zinc Trivalent (ZN6A) MPAPS G-20, Class 6A. Phosphate Coating (PHC) MPAPS G-1, Class B-2 Chromium Bright (CRB) MPAPS G-19, Class 13 CRB 13.0 RESTRICTED CHEMICAL SUB
