This Specification is from EIA Standards Proposal No. 5202, formulated under the cognizance of EIA CE-2.0, Committee on Connector and Socket Standards. This project was conducted in liai

13、son with the SFF Committee as representing the disk drive industry. Utilization of this Standard is intended to eliminate misunderstandings or confusion between a manufacturer and user with respect to product performance and testing requirements for this as well as other possible applications. 14、evelopment work on this specification was done by the SFF Committee, an industry group. The membership of the committee since its formation in August 1990 has included a mix of companies that are leaders across the industry. iv Background (This background is informative only and is not part of this

Abstract: This specification defines the physical interface and general performance requirements for the Micro SAS connector that is designed for use in high speed serial interconnect applications. While designed for the Solid State Drive (SSD) industry, its use is not limited to that app

16、lication. This specification is made available for public review, and written comments are solicited from readers. Comments received by the members will be considered for inclusion in future revisions of this specification. The description of a connector in this specification does not assure that th

17、e specific component is actually available from connector suppliers. If such a connector is supplied it must comply with this specification to achieve interoperability between suppliers. Introduction 1.1 Scope 1.1.1 This specification defines the terminology and physical requirements for the mating interface and physical characteristics of the Micro

21、SAS Connector System. It is designed to support high speed serial signals and power. While designed specifically for the smaller, 1.8 inch form factor drives, including solid state drives, it should not be considered as limited to those. Its use will be governed by applicable industry standards, e.g

22、. Serial Attached SCSI (SAS). 1.1.2 In an effort to broaden the applications for storage devices, an ad hoc industry group of companies representing system integrators, peripheral suppliers, and component suppliers decided to address the issues involved. 1.1.3 The SFF Committee was formed in August,

23、 1990 and the first working document was introduced in January, 1991. 1.2 Applicable documents The following documents form a part of this specification to the extent indicated herein. In the event of conflict between this specification and the referenced documents, this specification shall take pre

25、internal Micro SAS connector is designed to enable connection of a slim 1.8 inch form factor HDD or SDD to the SAS interface. 1.4.2 The internal Micro SAS connector uses the same 1.27 millimeter pitch for both the signal and power segments as the Micro SATA connector as defined in the Serial ATA Spe

26、cification. In addition, it contains a second signal segment on 0.8 millimeter pitch similar to the SAS internal connector as defined in SFF 8482. It contains an optional pair of contacts opposite the primary signal contact group. This pair is for OEM use and the voltage must be at or below 5 volts.

27、 Also included is the same pair of optional manufacturing contacts as exists on the Micro SATA connector. 1.4.3 Care should be taken in the application of this drive so that excessive stress is not exerted on the drive or connector. Backplane configurations should pay particular attention so that th

28、e drive and connector are not damaged due to excessive misalignment. EIA-967 Page 3 1.4.4 The Micro SAS Receptacle accepts both Micro SAS, Micro SAS/SATA, and Micro SATA plug connectors, see Figure 1. 29、t not the Micro SATA Receptacle, see Figure 2. Figure 2 -Micro SAS plug 1.4.6 The Micro SAS/SATA Plug will mate with either the Micro SAS or Micro SATA Receptacle. 30、ug EIA-967 Page 4 1.5 Definitions 1.5.1 Advanced grounding contacts Connector contacts that make first and break last and are capable of carrying power ground return currents and performing electrostatic discharge. Other terms sometimes used to describe these features are: grounding pins, ESD contac

31、ts, grounding contacts, static drain, and pre-grounding contacts. 1.5.2 Alignment guides Connector features that preposition insulators prior to electrical contact. Other terms sometimes used to describe these features are: guide pins, guide posts, blind mating features, mating features, alignment f

32、eatures, and mating guides. 1.5.3 Board termination technologies Surface mount single row, surface mount dual row, through hole, hybrid, and straddle mount. 1.5.4 Cable termination The attachment of wires to the termination side of a connector. Schemes commonly used in the industry are Insulation Di

33、splacement Contact (IDC), Insulation Displacement Termination (IDT), wire slots, solder, weld, crimp, braise, etc. Contact mating sequence: order of electrical contact during mating/unmating process. Other terms sometimes used to describe this feature are: contact sequencing, contact positioning, ma

34、ke first/break last, EMLB (early make late break) staggered contacts, and long pin / short pin. 1.5.5 Fixed Used to describe the gender of the mating side of the connector that accepts its mate upon mating. This gender is frequently, but not always, associated with the common terminology “receptacle

35、”. Other terms commonly used are “female” and “socket connector”. The term “fixed” is adopted from EIA standard terminology as the gender that most commonly exists on the fixed end of a connection, for example, on the board or bulkhead side. In this document “fixed” is specifically used to describe

36、the mating side gender, see Figure 4. Figure 4 Mated side gender definition EIA-967 Page 5 1.5.6 Free Used to describe the gender of the mating side of the connector that penetrates its mate upon mating. This gender is frequently, but not always, associated with the common terminology “plug”. Other

37、terms commonly used are “male” and “pin connector”. The term “free” is adopted from EIA standard terminology as the gender that most commonly exists on the free end of a connection, for example, on the cable side. In this document “free” is specifically used to describe the mating side gender, see F

38、igure 4. 1.5.7 Frontshell That metallic part of a connector body that directly contacts the backshell or other shielding material that provides mechanical and shielding continuity between the connector and the cable. Other terms sometimes used to describe this part of a cable assembly are: housing,

39、nosepiece, cowling, and metal shroud. 1.5.8 Free board A connector that uses a free gender mating side and a termination side suitable for any of the printed circuit board termination technologies. 1.5.9 Fixed board A connector that uses a fixed gender mating side and a termination side suitable for

40、 any of the printed circuit board termination technologies. 1.5.10 Height Distance from board surface to farthest overall connector feature. 1.5.11 MSA Multiple Source Agreement 1.5.12 Mating side: The side of the connector that joins and separates from the mating side of a connector of opposite gen

41、der. Other terms commonly used in the industry are mating interface, separable interface and mating face. 1.5.13 Offset An alignment shift from the centerline of the connector. EIA-967 Page 6 1.5.12 Optional This term describes features that are not required by the SFF specification. However, if any

42、 feature defined by the SFF specification is implemented, it shall be done in the same way as defined by the specification. Describing a feature as optional in the text is done to assist the reader. If there is a conflict between text and tables on a feature described as optional, the table shall be

43、 accepted as being correct. 1.5.13 Reserved Where this term is used for defining the signal on a connector pin its actual function is set aside for future standardization. It is not available for vendor specific use. Where this term is used for bits, bytes, fields and code values; the bits, bytes, f

44、ields and code values are set aside for future standardization. The default value shall be zero. The originator is required to define a reserved field or bit as zero, but the receiver should not check Reserved fields or bits for zero. 1.5.14 Right angle A connector design for use with printed circui

45、t board assembly technology where the mating direction is parallel to the plane of the printed circuit board. 1.5.15 SFP Small Form Factor Pluggable 1.5.16 Single row A connector design for use with surface mount printed circuit board assembly technology where the termination side points are arrange

46、d in one line. 1.5.17 Single sided termination A cable termination assembly style and a connector design style where only one side of the connector is accessible when attaching wires. This style frequently has IDC termination points that point in the same direction. 1.5.18 SMT Surface Mount Technolo

47、gy 1.5.19 Straddle mount A connector design style and a printed circuit board design style that uses surface mount termination points on both sides of the board. The connector is frequently centered between the top and bottom surfaces of the board. EIA-967 Page 7 1.5.20 Straight A connector design f

48、or use with printed circuit board assembly technology where the mating direction is perpendicular to the plane of the printed circuit board. 1.5.21 Surface mount A connector design and a printed circuit board design style where the connector termination points do not penetrate the printed circuit bo

49、ard and are subsequently soldered to the printed circuit board. 1.5.22 Termination side The side of the connector opposite the mating side that is used for permanently attaching conductors to the connector. Due to pin numbering differences between mating side genders the termination side shall always be specified in conjunction with a mating side of a specific gender. Other terms commonly used in the industry are: back end, non-mating side, footprint, pc board side, and post side. 1.5.23 Through hole A connector design and a printed circuit board design style where t
