9、ritish Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee GSE/30. It supersedes BS 7624:1993, which is to be withdrawn in November 2004. A period of three months has been allowed for users of the old standard to convert to the new standard. This revision to BS 7624 reflects changes to the relevant le

10、gislation and the publication of BS EN 1458-1:2000, which covers the safety of gas fired tumble dryers and replaces BS 5258-17. The previously accepted use of a tumble dryer in a flueless mode is not recognised in BS EN 1458 and, accordingly, this standard only endorses the venting options detailed

11、in the scope. This publication does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users are responsible for its correct application. 14、this document indicates when the document was last issued.BS 7624:2004 BSI 17 August 2004 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies the installation (see Note 1) of direct gas-fired tumble dryers of up to 6 kW net heat input burning 2nd and 3rd family gases for use in permanent domestic dwellings (s

15、ee Notes 2 and 3). It applies to any such tumble dryer used in conjunction with a flexible venting hose fitted to a wall or window vent terminal or, where the net heat input does not exceed 3kW, with a venting hose hung out of a window, so that combustion products and moisture are exhausted directly

16、 to the outside air. NOTE 1 For the purposes of this standard, installation includes design, inspection and commissioning. It is recognized that each of these tasks can be performed by the same person. NOTE 2 As well as normally constructed dwellings, domestic premises include any permanently sited

17、caravans, holiday homes, residential park homes and permanently moored boats. Additional requirements exist for these categories of premises and can be found in IGE/UP/8 8. Neither this standard nor IGE/UP/8 8 applies to gas installations in towed or motorised caravans. NOTE 3 Whilst this standard s

18、pecifies installations in domestic premises, it is recognized that it might also be referred to for similar installations in commercial and industrial premises. In such cases, additional legislation might be applicable. Attention is drawn to the hazards that exist in certain locations, e.g. hairdres

The installation work shall be carried out by a business or self-employed person, who is a “member of a

28、class of persons” approved for the time being by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), as required by the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1. Persons who design the installation shall have a knowledge and understanding of the standards and regulations that apply to ensure that the comp

29、leted plans will produce a safe and satisfactory installation. COMMENTARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON CLAUSE 4 At the time of publication, the body with HSE approval to operate and maintain a register of businesses who are members of a “class of persons” is the Council for Registered Gas Installers (CORG

30、I). Therefore, it is essential that all businesses or self-employed gas installers are registered with CORGI. Guidance on the individual competency required for gas work are those who, either hold a certificate of gas safety competence acceptable to CORGI which include (without limitation) the Accre

31、dited Certification Scheme (ACS) and/or the Gas Services S/NVQ that has been aligned to ACS. 5 Design and planning The following shall be ascertained before planning of the installation begins: a) the availability of gas supplies; b) the availability of adequate ventilation; c) the position of the p

32、roposed location of the tumble dryer in relation to doors, external walls (outside air) and to the probable position of fixtures, furniture and curtains; d) the electrical supplies available; e) the recommended method of installation given in the tumble dryer manufacturers literature; f) the availab

33、ility of a stable and rigid base for the tumble dryer; and g) the most appropriate method of exhaust venting. COMMENTARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON CLAUSE 5 Collaboration is essential between those concerned with the design of a tumble dryer installation and those responsible for installing the tumble d

34、ryer, both at the planning stage and during the execution of the work. BS 7624:2004 BSI 17 August 2004 3 6 Selection of tumble dryers Any new tumble dryer shall be one that has been marked by the manufacturer as being suitable for the gas with which it is to be supplied. It shall be suitable for its

35、 intended location (see Clause 7). Only used tumble dryers with which the manufacturers instructions are supplied or are otherwise available shall be selected for installation. COMMENTARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON CLAUSE 6 The drying load capacity of the tumbler dryer should be borne in mind during sel

36、ection together with the intended location and the method of ventilation (see Clause 9) and exhaust venting (see Clause 10). Tumble dryers covered by this standard are generally available with a range of accessories, e.g. exhaust venting hose, wall/window vent kit, stacking kit and restraining kit.

37、Some of these items, for example, a vent hose, can be included with the tumble dryer. Tumble dryers covered by this standard are available with rated heat inputs up to 6 kW. The input is quoted on the basis of net calorific value. The traditional UK system of using gross calorific value would give a

38、n equivalent rating of 6.6 kW input for natural gas. The installer should check the data given with a tumble dryer to establish the basis on which the heat input is quoted. It should be noted that the heat input of the dryer determines which exhaust venting options are available for installation (se

39、e Clause 9). For the purposes of this standard the ratio of gross:net heat input is 1:1.11. For example, to convert a 5kW input appliance, gross c.v. to the equivalent net c.v. heat input: 5/1.1 = 4.504 kW heat input. New tumble dryers Of the tumble dryers covered by this standard, new tumble dryers

40、 fall within the scope of the European Gas Appliances Directive 9, implemented in the UK by the Gas Appliances (Safety) Regulations 3, which require new tumble dryers to be CE marked. Accordingly, installers should check that the tumble dryer is CE marked. Normally, a tumble dryer is certified to BS

41、 EN 1458-1, which classifies flue types as B 22Dand B 23D . The installer should check that the packaging and the dryers data plate are marked with at least the following information. a) The letters “GB”. b) The type of gas and appliance inlet pressure as follows: 1) for a tumble dryer adjusted for

42、natural gas, “G20 and/or natural gas 20 mbar” plus the designation I 2H; 2) for a tumble dryer adjusted for butane, “G30 and/or butane 29 mbar” plus the designation I 3B; 3) for a tumble dryer adjusted for propane, “G31 and/or propane 37 mbar” plus the designation I 3P; 4) for a tumble dryer which w

43、ill burn butane or propane gas at the correct pressure, “G30/G31 and/or butane/propane 29/37 mbar” plus the designation I 3+ . Where a tumble dryers data plate carries the letters CAT I or CAT II followed by the gas type designations, (i.e. 2H, 2P, 2B ) then the tumble dryer may be used for differen

44、t types of gases when adjusted to do so. In such a case, the installer should ensure that the tumble dryer is correctly adjusted. Used tumble dryers In the case of a used tumble dryer, the original packaging is generally not available. Where the manufacturers instructions are not available, these sh

45、ould be obtained from the manufacturer or his agent before installation of the tumble dryer begins. Where a used tumble dryer carries the “CE” mark, its data plate is likely to carry the information on type of gas and appliance inlet pressure. In such a case, the installation should proceed in accor

46、dance with the manufacturers instructions, using the venting options specified in this standard.BS 7624:2004 4 BSI 17 August 2004 Where the tumble dryer does not carry a “CE” mark, it has to be borne in mind that other criteria could apply, such as surface temperatures, tumble dryer stability, venti

47、lation, etc., and these need to be taken into account in the method of installation. The installer should satisfy himself that the tumble dryer is safe in construction and condition, and can be used without constituting a danger. A tumble dryer conforming to BS 5258-17 may be considered safe when in

48、stalled in accordance with the venting options specified in this standard. All tumble dryers In all cases, the installer should refer to the data plate and/or take other steps to ensure that the tumble dryer is suitable for the pressure and type of gas to be burnt. Conversion to another gas, if nece

49、ssary, should be carried out strictly in accordance with the manufacturers instructions, using the manufacturers kit of parts. If there is any doubt as to the suitability of a tumble dryer for a particular gas, then the tumble dryer manufacturer should be consulted. Further information on the labelling of gas appliances is given in DD 221. 7 Location of tumble dryers 7.1 The tumble dryer shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.
