This Part is related to ISO8858-1:1990, published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The principal difference is that the a

A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for th

This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS7530-1:1992 BSI 10-1999 1 0 Introduction The froth flotation of coal has widespread application for the concentration of fine coal particles and their separation fro
10、m mineral matter. The response of coal to the froth flotation process is measured initially by a laboratory-scale test. Although the principles on which such laboratory tests are based are generally similar, the type of equipment and the techniques used vary considerably. The purpose of this Part of
11、 BS7530 is to provide a standard method of test by which preliminary comparisons of the froth flotation characteristics of different coals can be made. Such comparisons are particularly important for exploration programmes. This Part of BS7530 also serves as an introduction for operators who are not
12、 familiar with the techniques (and problems) associated with the froth flotation of coals in the laboratory. The method described provides a means of evaluating the general flotation characteristics of a coal under a set of specified conditions and will not necessarily indicate the full flotation po
13、tential of that coal. The flotation characteristics of coals are sensitive to changes in flotation conditions. These conditions can be changed by varying such basic parameters as flotation time, particle size distribution of the feed, reagent and reagent dosage. Separate flotation tests are required
14、 to assess the effect of varying these parameters to determine the best flotation conditions for a particular coal. 1 Scope This Part of BS7530 describes a method for the froth flotation testing of a fine coal, of particle size less than0.5mm, in the laboratory. It is applicable to coal in powder fo
15、rm or in the form of a slurry. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this Part of BS7530, the definitions given in BS3552 apply. 3 Principle A test portion of coal is mixed with water to form a suspensio
16、n in the flotation cell, or a test portion of a slurry is added to the cell and diluted. A flotation agent is added, the suspension is conditioned, and then air is introduced to the cell while agitation is maintained by means of an impeller. The concentrate and the tailings are collected separately
17、and the yield and ash are determined for each. 4 Reagents 4.1 General. During the test, use only reagents of recognized analytical grade and only water complying with grade3 of BS3978. 4.2 Flotation agent. Prepare a mixture of80%(V/V) of n-dodecane and20% (V/V) of4-methylpentan-2-ol. NOTEA stock sol
18、ution of this mixture may be kept for use in several tests. 5 Apparatus 5.1 Flotation machine. A mechanical impeller-type flotation machine, designed for laboratory-scale flotation testing, comprising the following. a) A flotation cell, of capacity2.5L to10L, made from an inert material such as stai
19、nless steel, glass or perspex. b) An impeller assembly, capable of being driven so that the periphery of the impeller moves at a speed of5.7m/s. The impeller shall be positioned centrally with a clearance of6 1mm above the bottom of the cell. c) A means of supplying air to the impeller. A typical fl

NOTEAlternatively, the level may be kept constant by the manual addition of water. 5.3 Two scrapers, for removing the froth from the entire
21、 surface of the pulp. 5.4 Graduated micro-pipette or micro-syringe, for adding the flotation agent. 5.5 Timing device, accurate to1s and capable of being zeroed and started as required. 5.6 Balance, capable of weighing to the nearest0.1g. 5.7 Oven, capable of maintaining a temperature within the ran
22、ge105 C to110 C. 5.8 Set of test sieves, complying with BS410, for carrying out a size analysis of the test sample.BS7530-1:1992 2 BSI 10-1999 Figure 1 Typical flotation machine Figure 2 Detail of flotation cell and impellerBS7530-1:1992 BSI 10-1999 3 6 Sampling and preparation of test sample Take a
23、 gross sample which is at least five times the mass required for a single flotation test (see9.1). If the gross sample is in powder form, take representative subsamples for carrying out preliminary tests (see7.2 to7.4). If the gross sample is in the form of a slurry, allow it to settle for at least1
24、2h and then decant the supernatant water. Thoroughly mix the thickened slurry and take representative subsamples for the determination of its solids content and other tests (seeclause7). NOTE 1The history and method of preparation of the samples can affect the flotation characteristics of the coal.
