It should be read in conjunction with BS6

11、910-1. This code takes account of the installation using complete joint packs and of items supplied separately, and puts an emphasis on requirements of the finished completed joint. In the installation, modification and repair of electrical systems it is necessary to join cables of similar and diffe

12、rent sizes and types. These joints, that of necessity are made on-site, are potentially the weakest link in the system if they have not been correctly made. It has been produced for use by consultants, designers, project engineers and supervisors who may not be familiar with the detailed procedure o

13、f on-site jointing of power cables in this range. It has been assumed in the drafting of this code that the execution of its provisions will be entrusted to appropriately qualified and experienced people for whose guidance it has been prepared. This code requires the use of substances and/or procedu

14、res that may be injurious to health if adequate precautions are not taken. It refers only to technical suitability and does not absolve the user from legal obligations relating to health and safety at any stage. Purchasers ordering to this standard are advised that BS5750 is the specification that i

15、dentifies the requirements of the quality management system applicable to the manufacturer. Reference to BS5750-2 in their purchase order or contract and acceptance of this condition of supply by the manufacturer will provide confidence that the quality system operated by the supplier incorporates t

General 1 Scope This Part of BS6910 provides guidance on the procedures to be followed when making joints by the cold pour resin or heat-shrink methods in cables in the voltage range up to1000Va.c. and1500Vd.c. This code

19、describes procedures to be adopted for jointing packs manufactured in accordance with BS6910-1. It does not cover the problems that may be encountered if components from packs of different manufacturers are used in jointing. This code is limited to jointing on cables that are not energized and, ther

20、efore, should not be applied to the practice of jointing of live cables. NOTE 1Joints have been developed in different countries to cater for local conditions. Local climatic and physical conditions may require special requirements in jointing over and beyond the requirements detailed herein. Such s

21、pecial requirements should always be specified at the time of contract. NOTE 2The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this Part of BS6910 the definitions given in BS6910-1 apply.BS6910-2:1989 2 BSI 07-1999 Sec

Design and control of work 3 Joint selection 3.1 General Joints may be purchased as complete packs which will ensure that the jointer has all the materials he requires on site and stock control will be relatively straightforward. Alternatively the components may be supplied separately if fle

23、xibility of application is required. However, due to variation in number, size and type of conductor, connector fittings are normally supplied as separate items, Potential manufacturers or suppliers should be given full details of the configuration and types of cable to be jointed and will then be a

24、ble to make recommendations. Among the factors to be considered are: a) compatibility between the joint packs and cables, and where not provided with joint packs, the connector fittings; b) external size limitations; c) speed and ease of installation; d) ease of mixing of two-part or three-part resi

25、n compounds (see5.2 of BS6910-1:1988); e) site conditions or environment; f) costs; g) availability of heat source for operations such as soldering, plumbing or heat-shrinking. The choice of jointing system will be influenced by the information given in 3.2 to 3.8. 3.2 Cable conductors Cable conduct

26、ors will be of copper or aluminium, stranded or soldered and should be selected after reference to BS6910-1. 3.3 Connection fittings Connection fittings may be mechanical, compression, or soldered and should be selected after reference to Part 1. 3.4 Cable insulation Cable insulation will be either

27、impregnated paper or a polymeric material such as PVC, XLPE or EPR. Reinstatement of the insulation may be effected by taping, wrapping, cold encapsulation, heat-shrink materials or by a combination of one or more techniques. The design of the joint has to ensure that moisture cannot come into conta

28、ct with paper insulation but this may not be applicable to polymeric insulation. 3.5 Metal sheaths Metal sheaths of cable where applicable are either of lead or aluminium. Traditionally metal sheaths have been jointed in a plumbed lead sleeve filled with a solid insulating compound that has to be me

29、lted at approximately150C to enable it to be poured into the joint where it solidifies as it cools. The sleeve provides the continuity connection between the cable sheaths. More recently introduced joint designs omit the lead sleeve therefore an adequate bonding system has to be provided. Such bonds

30、 may be plumbed to both lead or aluminium sheaths but various cold bonding techniques are being developed as an alternative. In some instances a cold bond suitable for aluminium may not be satisfactory for lead or vice versa, therefore the application has to be carefully checked. 3.6 Metallic screen

31、s Metallic screens in low voltage cables will generally be copper or aluminium, wires or strips. Continuity of the screens may be restored by mechanical, compression or soldered connections. 3.7 Armour Armour may be steel tape or wires or, in special circumstances such as single core cables used on

32、a.c. systems, a non-ferrous metal, e.g. aluminium. Usually steel tape or wire armour is bonded by mechanical connections but aluminium armour may be bonded by either mechanical, compression or soldered techniques. Bonding arrangements for sheaths, screens and/or armour should be suitable as a minimu

33、m, to cater for the prospective earth fault current of the circuit. Alternatively they should match the earth fault rating of the cable. 3.8 Oversheath or serving Oversheath or serving is commonly PVC or other polymeric material but materials such as bituminized hessian will be encountered particula

34、rly on older cables. Some modern jointing systems incorporate a moisture seal on to the oversheath; compatibility with the oversheath material has to be verified Amoisture seal on to a fabric serving has to be considered to be ineffective.BS6910-2:1989 BSI 07-1999 3 4 Contents of packs 4.1 General I

35、t is recommended that complete joint packs are specified for a particular application. The information to be given by the manufacturer or supplier should be in accordance with 7.3 of BS6910-1:1988. If it is proposed to assemble joint packs with material from more than one source, it is advisable to

36、consult the manufacturers to ascertain the compatibility of components. NOTEThe manufacturer should also be consulted to ascertain the suitability of connectors which are to be used. 4.2 Cold pour joints 4.2.1 General. It is recommended that for cold pour joints complete packs from a single manufact

37、urer are used. No attempt should be made to use resin from one manufacturer in joint boxes from another without establishing their mutal compatability and suitability. Resin compounds of different manufacturers and types, should never be mixes as such compounds are formulated from a number of basic

38、materials and may contain varying amounts of inert filler medium (see5.2.1 of BS6910-1:1988). 4.2.2 Cold pour joint packs (see Figure 1,Figure 2 and Figure 3). Items that would normally be included in a complete cold pour joint pack are: a) a box with all the necessary clips to secure the casing to

39、the cable during encapsulant pouring and curing; b) box sealing components to retain the resin compound in the box whilst it is in the liquid state; c) an earth/armour continuity strap complete with all necessary clamps and fittings; d) connector insulation (optional according to kit type); e) resin

40、 compound; f) jointing instructions; g) a parts list. 4.3 Heat-shrink joints 4.3.1 General. Heat-shrinkable components contained in jointing packs may be in the form of tubings, moulded parts or wrap-around sleevings. These are generally coated with heat-activated sealants and are shrunk using a rec

41、ommended gas torch or hot air gun. Tubings and moulded parts should be passed over the cable ends prior to making the conductor connections. Joints which include branch connections to uncut main cables generally employ wrap-around sleevings for insulation and environmental protection. 4.3.2 Heat-shr

42、ink joint packs (seeFigure 4). Items that would normally be included in a complete heat-shrink joint pack are: a) sleeves for reinsulating the conductors; b) an earth/armour continuity strap complete with all necessary clamps and fittings; c) joint case support rings, clamps or circular clips; d) pa

The information to be supplied by the customer to the

48、jointing contractor before proceeding to the site should comprise the following items: a) general information: 1) date when joint(s) are to be made; 2) customer and site address; 3) contract reference number; 4) cable reference number or name; 5) job description and location of work. NOTE 1The purch

49、aser of the jointing kit and/or the jointing contractor should be advised of any special safety procedures laid down by the customer. b) details of the cable: 1) the system voltage; 2) type(s) of cable to be jointed, and make and type of joint to be installed; 3) phasing information; 4) conductor sizes (single-core/multi-core); 5) proposed installation environment. NOTE 2This code of practice does not include the precautions necessary for jointing of energized cables. It is assumed all cables are de-energized. 6 Training Given that the materials used i
