、s of25mm and above for driving and driven machines. It specifies four series of shaft centre heights. 2 Reference The title of the British Standard referred to in this standard is given on the inside back cover. 3 Definition For the purposes of this British Standard the following definition applies:
、 shaft centre height the distance, measured on the machine ready for delivery, between the centre-line of the shaft and the base plane of the machine itself. It does not include metallic shims and/or packing pieces used for assembly, but when a non-metallic non-conducting packing piece is supplied w
、ith the machine, the thickness of that packing piece shall be included in the shaft centre height. SeeFigure 1 andFigure 2. 4 Dimensions 4.1 Nominal shaft centre heights shall conform to the dimensions given inTable 1. Selection shall preferably be made from series1, which is the first choice, but i
、f these values are not suitable for the particular application, selection should be attempted from series2, series3 and series4 in that order. 4.2 The values in the four series correspond respectively, with some rounding, to the values of the preferred number series R5, R10, R20 and R40 as given in
、BS2045. 5 Tolerances 5.1 Shaft centre height. The tolerances on shaft centre height given inTable 2 relate to directly coupled machines. They apply at all points along the length of the shaft. 5.1.2 Tolerances to suit special circumstances, e.g.to take account of variation in centre height due to th
、ermal expansion during operation or when, during assembly, allowance has to be made in the alignment for deflection of the shaft, should be the subject of special agreement between the supplier and the purchaser. 5.2 Parallelism tolerance.
