6、efinition 10101 actuator A power-operated device on aircraft to effect movement over a limited linear or angular range. 10102 air-compressor intake throttle A valve controlling automatically the intake of an air compressor to maintain a required condition on the delivery side at varying altitudes. 1

7、0103 emergency air Compressed air for energizing a hydraulic or pneumatic circuit in the event of failure of the normal power supply. 10104 emergency cartridge A cartridge, the products of combustion of which energize a hydraulic or pneumatic circuit in the event of failure of the normal power suppl

8、y or operate an emergency mechanism such as an ejection seat. 10105 ground test couplings Couplings which enable the hydraulic or pneumatic system to be tested by an externally applied source of power. 10106 hydraulic circuit A branch of an aircraft hydraulic system serving a particular purpose, e.g

9、. flap circuit, undercarriage circuit. 10107 hydraulic lock A condition in which the fluid is prevented from flowing, thereby locking some part of the equipment, or a device for providing this condition. 10108 hydraulic system 1. A particular method of transmitting power by means of liquid under pre

The complete hydraulic installation. 10109 maximum delivery pressure The pressure at which the operation of the control mechanism automatically begins to reduce the delivery from a pump. 10110 pneumatic circuit A branch of an aircraft pneumatic system serving a particular p

17、RM A preformed cable assembly with its associated terminations. 10206 circuit breaker A mechanical switching device capable of making, carrying and breaking currents under normal circuit conditions and also making, carrying for a specified time and breaking currents under specified abnormal circuit

NOTEA circuit-breaker is usually intended to operate infrequently although some types are suitable for frequent operation. circuits 10207 interlocking circuit A circuit in which the operation of one item of electrical apparatus is made dependen

19、t upon the fulfilment of certain predetermined conditions in other items of apparatus, controls or circuits. 10208 main circuit An arrangement of conductors for conveying electric power from the power source to a main distribution point in an aircraft. 10209 feeder circuit SUB-CIRCUIT An arrangement

20、 of conductors for transmitting electric power from a main distribution point. 10210 contactor A mechanical switching device having only one position of rest, operated otherwise than by hand and capable of making, carrying and breaking currents under normal circuit conditions including operating ove

21、rload conditions. (Cf. 10206.) NOTE 1A contactor is usually intended to operate frequently. NOTE 2A contactor may also be capable of making and breaking short-circuit currents. 10211 convertor A rotary machine, or combination of machines, for the conversion of alternating current into direct current

23、tion 10213 earth return The electrically-bonded part of an airframe used in an electrical circuit. 10214 electrical instrument A device for indicating, recording or measuring an electrical quantity or condition. 10215 electrical system A combination of power sources and utilization equipment connect

24、ed to a common main distribution point. NOTEThere may be more than one power source on each system and more than one system in each aircraft electrical installation. interferences 10216 electrical interference Any electrical disturbance which has undesirable effects on electrical or electronic equip

25、ment. 10217 magnetic interference Undesirable and unintended effects on apparatus due to magnetic fields created by electric currents or magnetic materials or both. It includes modification of the magnetization of existing materials by electric currents or mechanical shock. 10218 invertor A device f

26、or converting direct current into alternating current. 10219 rotary transformer DYNAMOTOR A single armature rotary machine used for the conversion of d.c. of one voltage to d.c. of one or more other voltages. (Cf. 10211 and 10218.) 10220 suppressor ELECTRICAL INTERFERENCE SUPPRESSOR A device used to

27、 suppress unwanted voltage fluctuations, which might give rise to electrical interference. 10221 system capacity The total power available from the power sources under the prescribed operating and environmental conditions in the aircraft. 10301 air conditioner A unit used to control the temperature,

28、 fresh air changes and/or humidity of the air in an aircraft on the ground. 10302 cabin altitude selector An instrument by means of which any of a range of cabin altitudes can be selected. 10303 cabin supercharger A compressor to maintain the pressure in the cabin above the ambient air pressure and

29、provide pressure for air conditioning systems. 10304 cold air unit An air cycle refrigerator consisting of a turbine and/or a compressor and/or a fan mounted in separate ducts but on a common drive shaft. The turbine cools the air supplied to it by extracting energy which is absorbed by the fan and/

30、or compressor. 10305 bootstrap cold air unit COMPRESSOR-TURBINE COLD AIR UNIT A cold air unit in which the charge air passes through both the compressor and, via an intercooler, the turbine. 10306 brake turbine cold air unit A cold air unit in which the compressor or fan acts as a brake on the turbi

31、ne. 32、 pre-cooler A heat exchanger used to cool the charge air tapped from the engine compressor to temperatures acceptable to the air conditioning system. 10308 primary heat exchanger PRIMARY COOLER A heat exchanger used to cool the charge air from the cabin supercharger, or tapped from the engine compre

33、ssor or pre-cooler, before it passes into the cold air unit. 10309 secondary heat exchanger INTERCOOLER A heat exchanger used to cool the charge air passing from the compressor to the turbine of a bootstrap cold air unit. (Cf. 8350.) 10310 pressure controller An instrument which senses cabin and air

34、craft altitudes and controls the discharge valve to maintain a predetermined cabin/aircraft altitude relationship or a selected cabin altitude. 10311 temperature controller A device which compares signals received from temperature sensors and selectors and operates a temperature control valve accord

35、ingly. 10312 temperature selector A device by which the cabin air temperature to be maintained during flight is selected. valves 10313 constant flow valve An automatic valve which renders the flow of air to the pressurizing system independent of the pressure variations of the source of supply above

36、the minimum working pressure. 10314 discharge valve A valve fitted to control the outflow air from the cabin. It acts as a variable restrictor by means of which cabin pressure is controlled. 10315 flow control valve An automatic valve which regulates the flow of air to predetermined characteristics.

37、 10316 inward relief valve An automatic valve fitted to admit air to the cabin when the external pressure exceeds the internal by more than a defined amount. 10317 reducing valve An automatic valve which provides a supply of fluid at a regulated low pressure from a high pressure system. 10318 safety

38、 valve OUTWARD RELIEF VALVE An automatic valve fitted to release air from the cabin when the internal pressure exceeds the external pressure by more than a defined amount 10319 spill valve A valve through which excess air in the pressurizing system is discharged to the atmosphere. 10320 temperature

39、control valve A valve, normally permitting air to by-pass the refrigeration system, by means of which the cabin air temperature may be varied. 10321 water extractor WATER SEPARATOR A device which decreases the free moisture content in the air conditioning system by means of separation and drainage.B

44、alled in an airframe to secure even replenishment of all or a selected number of fuel tanks from a single inlet point. 10409 refuelling indicator A device to give an indication of the completion of the filling of each tank in an aircraft. 10410 refuelling valve A device, installed in a fuel tank or

45、in a fuel pipe communicating with the tank, to control the replenishment of the tank and cut off the fuel flow when a desired level has been reached. 10411 float refuelling valve A refuelling valve in a fuel tank operated by a float on the surface of the fuel. 10412 solenoid refuelling valve A refue
