This British Standard is applicable t

12、o all sizes and shapes of baths and no references have been made to nominal sizes or dimensional co-ordination. NOTE 1The latter aspects may be covered by other standards. The information to be supplied by the purchaser is given in Appendix A. NOTE 2The titles of the publications referred to in this

13、 standard are listed on Inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this standard the following definitions together with those given in BS4118 apply. 2.1 porcelain enamel a glazed surface finish produced by the application of a powdered inorganic glass, dry or suspended in water, to cast i

14、ron parts, and its subsequent fusion 2.2 work size 1) target size of bath specified for its manufacture 3 Materials and finish 3.1 Cast iron The cast iron shall be of a quality not less than that specified for grade150 in BS1452. 3.2 Porcelain enamel 3.2.1 General. The interior of the bath shall be

15、evenly coated with porcelain enamel of a quality complying with the requirements of3.2.2 to3.2.6. 3.2.2 Finish. The gloss and opacity of the enamel shall be visually good. 3.2.3 Abrasion resistance. When tested as described inB.2, no scratching shall be visible when viewed through the microscope. 3.

16、2.4 Alkali resistance. When tested as described inB.3, there shall be no uniform colour stain on the enamel. 3.2.5 Acid resistance. When tested as described in BS1344-2, the enamel shall comply with classification C of that standard. 3.2.6 Hot water resistance. When tested as described inB.4, there

17、shall be no visible signs of attack. 3.3 Edges The bath shall be free from sharp edges that would be exposed after installation in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. 3.4 Appearance When the bath is visually inspected in daylight from a height of1.5m from the surface to be examined there

18、 shall be no evidence of crazing, chipping, dimples, lumps, rundown, specks, blisters, pinholes, or other defects that will impair the appearance or performance of the bath. 3.5 Hole edges The edges of any holes in the bath shall not show evidence of chips, cracks, or any other defects that will imp

19、air its appearance or performance. 4 Connecting dimensions 4.1 General The bath connecting dimensions illustrated in Figure 1 shall comply with the requirements in Table 1. 22、ut tap holes. Baths with tap holes complying with the following requirements shall be provided, unless otherwise ordered: NOTETap holes are normally positioned centrally but alternative positions can be provided, if ordered. 4.3 Waste hole The waste hole form shall be such that, when a gauge complyi

23、ng with Figure 2 is inserted in the waste hole, the part of the gauge that is shown cross-hatched in Figure 2 does not protrude either above the top edge of the waste hole or below the bottom edge of the waste hole. NOTEThis waste hole is suitable for type11 and type13 waste fittings complying with

25、chaser. 5 Design and construction 5.1 General 5.1.1 The design of the bath and its supports shall take into account the passage of waste and supply services within its basic space. 5.1.2 For the safety of users, baths shall be as flat bottomed as practicable. NOTEA slip-resistant surface may be prov

26、ided. 5.1.3 The tap platform shall be flat. The extreme outer edge of the roll shall be turned as nearly vertical as practicable. 5.1.4 The bath shall be provided with one of the following means of attaching a bonding conductor: a) a tag at least50mm long with a6mm clearance hole near to the free en

27、d; b) a30mm long6mm bolt or threaded stud; or c) a6mm clearance hole with at least a20mm diameter clear space around the hole. The tag, bolt, stud or hole surround shall be protected during the enamelling process to ensure that good electrical contact can be made. NOTEThe tag, bolt, stud or hole sho

28、uld preferably be at the waste outlet end of the bath and be accessible to the electrician after the bath has been installed. This means ideally that one bonding point should be fitted on both sides of the bath. The connection is used to provide the bonding required by the IEE “Regulations for elect

29、rical installations” (the Wiring Regulations), fifteenth edition,1981. 5.2 Chain stay hole When no overflow hole is provided and a chain stay hole is provided, its diameter shall bemm and its centre shall be a maximum of60mm below the top of the flange. 5.3 Supports 5.3.1 Adjustable feet, or other f

30、orm of support, shall be provided, giving a minimum range of height adjustment of50mm. NOTEAttention is drawn to the clearance from the floor to the underside of the waste hole boss specified in Table 1. 5.3.2 To accommodate a toe recess in the bath panel, the supports shall not project into the are

31、a that would be taken by a toe recess of depth60mm and height100mm, measured from the edge of the rim and the nominal floor position, respectively. 5.4 Handgrips If handgrips are provided the holes into which they are fixed shall be provided by the manufacturer of the bath. 6 Sizes The bath shall no

32、t deviate from the sizes quoted by the manufacturer by more than 5mm for dimensions up to and including1m and+5, 10mm for dimensions over1m. The size quoted by the manufacturer shall be thework size. 7 Functional characteristics The bath rims shall enable water to return to the inside of the bath. N

33、OTEThis figure is only diagrammatic and is not meant to indicate the detailed design of waste holes. 34、 datum level, and when the waste outlet hole is open, all water shall empty from the bath unless prevented by surface tension. Any provision of a slip-resistant surface shall not impair the draining efficiency. 8 Dimensional deviations 8.1 General Straight sides or edges of the bath that might abut

35、independent surroundings or supporting structures shall comply with8.2 to8.5. NOTEThese requirements are not applicable to sides or edges that are purposely designed as curves or slopes. 8.2 Squaring The deviations from the square, when measured as described inB.5.2, shall not exceed8mm at any point

36、. 8.3 Straightness of the sides The deviation from straightness of the sides of the bath, when measured as described inB.5.3, shall not exceed8mm in the concave or convex direction at any point. 8.4 Straightness of the roll edge The deviation from straightness of the roll edge, when measured as desc

37、ribed inB.5.4, shall not exceed8mm in the concave or convex direction at any point. 8.5 Flatness of the top surface of rim The deviation from the flat plane, when measured as described inB.5.5, shall not exceed8mm at any point. 8.6 Maximum dimension of corner radius The corner radius shall not excee

38、d25mm. 9 Marking Every bath shall be legibly marked on the underside with the following information: a) the manufacturers name or identification; b) country of origin; c) the number and date of this British Standard, i.e.BS1189:1986 2) . 10 Informative labelling Every bath shall be supplied with ins

39、tructions prominently headed: NOTICE TO INSTALLER. PLEASE LEAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE USER TO READ The instructions shall state in bold print, in not less than8point type, the precautions which it is necessary for the user to observe to prevent damaging the bath and shall cover at least the fol

40、lowing points. CARE OF YOUR CAST IRON BATH a) Clean immediately after use. Never use gritty or abrasive cleaners. b) Replace worn washers on dripping taps. c) Strong acids and alkalis, and chemicals used in photography, will damage the bath. If adhesive labels are used, the adhesive shall be water s

41、oluble. NOTEThe Vitreous Enamel Development Council has instituted a scheme for testing and recommending hand-applied cleaners used on porcelain enamel. A list of recommended cleaners may be obtained from the Councils offices, New House, High Street, Ticehurst, Wadhurst, Sussex TN57AL. 2) Marking BS

42、1189:1986 on or in relation to a product is a claim by the manufacturer that the product has been manufactured to the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of such a claim is therefore solely the manufacturers responsibility. Enquiries as to the availability of third party certification should

43、be addressed to the appropriate certification, body.BS1189:1986 BSI 08-1999 5 Appendix A Information to be supplied by the purchaser For the purposes of ordering, the following information should be supplied by the purchaser: a) manufacturers model name and number; b) dimensions of bath; c) the colo

44、ur required; d) whether tap holes are not required; e) if tap holes are required but not centrally at the waste hole end, the position required; f) the depth of seal of the trap to be used with the bath; g) whether a left or right-hand bath is required see Figure 3(a) orFigure 3 (b); h) whether an o

45、verflow is not required; i) if an overflow is not required, whether a chain stay hold is required; j) whether a handgrip is required; k) whether a panel is required. Appendix B Methods of test B.1 General Each bath shall be capable of passing all the tests but for practical reasons it is permissible

46、 for the tests to be carried out on different baths of the same design. B.2 Determination of abrasion resistance B.2.1 Procedure Select an area for test and examine the adjacent area for comparison. Use powdered apatite of particle size such that the powder passes through a2504m sieve complying with

47、 BS410 but is retained on a2124m sieve complying with BS410. Sprinkle the test powder over an area of approximately40mm 2and cover it with a small piece of chamois leather. Place a1kg mass having a circular base of650mm 2cross-sectional area on the chamois leather over the powder and draw both to an

48、d fro without additional pressure over a13mm travel of the enamelled surface12times. Examine the surfaces for scratching with the aid of an illuminated microscope of magnification 8. B.2.2 Test criterion Check that no scratching, visible when viewed through the microscope, has taken place. B.3 Deter

49、mination of alkali resistance B.3.1 Procedure Apply a10% solution of anhydrous sodium carbonate in distilled water at18 C for a period of20min to the bowl of the bath. At the end of this period, rub a small quantity of colloidal graphite 3)or manganese (IV) oxide on the dried enamel surface with a piece of clean soft cloth, chamois leather or velvet. Examine the alkali-treated part of the surface in a good light. 3) Acheson colloidal graphite is known to be suitable. For black or dark coloured enamels, the graphite should be replaced by ti
