Terminology3.1 Definitions:Definitions for many terms common to asphalt cement andasphalt binder are found in Terminology D8.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific
8、 to This Standard:3.2.1 continuous grading temperatures, Tc, nthe high,intermediate, and low temperatures at which the specificationrequirements given in Tables 1 or 2 of Specification D6373 aremet.3.2.2 continuous grade, na grade defined by upper andlower continuous grading temperatures.3.2.3 PG gr
9、ading temperatures, TPG, nthe temperatureslisted in Specification D6373 used to designate the grade of aPG binder, for example, 64C, 22C and -28C for a PG 64-28.3.2.4 test temperatures, T1and T2, ntwo PG gradingtemperatures, one grade apart and with T2T1such that the testproperties at the two temper
10、atures bracket the specificationrequirement for the property in question.3.2.5 specification requirements, nthe limiting valuesgiven in Specification D6373 that are used to grade an asphaltbinder, for example, 1.00 kPa for G*/sind, 300 MPa for S(60),etc.4. Summary of Practice4.1 The temperatures req
11、uired to determine the continuousgrading temperatures and grade are obtained from test resultsobtained at the specification grading temperatures as listed inSpecification D6373 and, for each specification requirement, ata second temperature above or below the specification gradingtemperature. The co
12、ntinuous grading temperature is deter-mined by interpolating between the two test temperatures tocalculate the test temperature at which the specification re-quirement is met. The continuous grading temperatures arethen used to determine the continuous grade of the asphaltbinder.1This practice is un

Significance and Use5.1 The continuous grading temperatures and continuousgrade are used for informational purposes only and are not usedfor the sale or purchase of asphalt binders. The continuousgrading temperatures an
16、d continuous grade may be used forforensic or research studies and when producing, blending,modifying, or otherwise evaluating asphalt binders. This guideis applicable to Specification D6373, Tables 1 and 2.6. Procedure6.1 Conduct testsFor each of the specification properties(for example, G*/sind, S
17、(60), etc.) for which a TCis to becalculated determine the test results at two temperatures, T1andT2such that T2is greater than T1. The difference between T1andT2shall be 6C for the upper and lower test temperatures and3C for the intermediate temperature. The two temperaturesshall provide test resul
18、ts that bracket the specification require-ments.NOTE 1For example, a PG 64-XX tested for G*/sind at 64C and70C may give test results of 1.86 and 0.89 kPa respectively. These resultsbracket the specification requirement, 1.00 kPa.6.1.1 If the results of the applicable specification provides atemperat
19、ure rather than a limiting property value (for example,TCRin Specification D6373, Table 2) then the temperature shallbe used as the continuous grading temperature.6.2 Perform Interpolation to Determine Continuous Grad-ing TemperaturesFor each pair of test results obtained as per6.1 determine the con
20、tinuous grading temperature by interpo-lating between T1and T2to determine the temperature at whichthe test results equal the specification requirement. The inter-polated temperature shall be reported as the continuous gradingtemperature.6.2.1 The interpolation for each of the properties, except the
