3、This specification covers solid, dry-cast, concrete build-ing brick intended for interior and exterior use in constructingstructural masonry, and are made from portland cement, water,and suitable mineral aggregates with or without the inclusionof other materials.NOTE 1Specification C 1634 addresses

4、concrete facing brick used infacing applications and other exposures (previously referred to in earliereditions of this standard as Grade Nfor use as architectural veneer andfacing units in exterior walls and for use where high-strength andresistance to moisture penetration and severe frost action a

5、re desired). Thisspecification differs from C 1634 in that it addresses properties forconcrete building brick used in non-facing, utilitarian applications (pre-viously referred to in earlier editions of this specification as Grade Sforgeneral use where moderate strength and resistance to frost actio

6、n andmoisture penetration are required).1.2 The text of this specification references notes andfootnotes which provide explanatory material. Materials and Manufacture4.1 Cementitious MaterialsMaterials shall conform to thefollowing applicable specifications:

Physical Requirements5.1 At the time of delivery to the purchaser, units shallconform to the physical requirements prescribed in Table 1.5.2 At the time of delivery to the purchaser, the total lineardryin

22、g shrinkage of units shall not exceed 0.065 % when testedin accordance with Test Method C 426.NOTE 4The purchaser is the public body or authority, association,corporation, partnership, or individual entering into a contract or agree-ment to purchase or install, or both, concrete building brick. The

23、time ofdelivery to the purchaser is FOB plant when the purchaser or thepurchasers agent transports the concrete building brick, or at the timeunloaded at the worksite if the manufacturer or the manufacturers agenttransports the concrete building brick.6. Dimensions and Permissible Variations6.1 No o

24、verall dimension (width, height, and length) shalldiffer by more than 618 in. (3.2 mm) from the specifiedstandard dimensions.NOTE 5Standard dimensions of concrete building brick are themanufacturers designated dimensions. Nominal dimensions of modularsize concrete building brick are equal to the sta

25、ndard dimensions plus thethickness of one mortar joint. Nominal dimensions of nonmodular sizeconcrete building brick usually exceed the standard dimensions by18 to14in. (3.2 to 6.4 mm).6.2 CoringUnless otherwise specified, brick shall be ei-ther solid or cored at the option of the seller. For cored

26、concretebuilding brick, the net cross-sectional area in any plane parallelto the surface containing the cores shall be at least 75 % of thegross cross-sectional area measure in the same plane. No partof any hole shall be less than34 in. (19.1 mm) from any edgeof the unit.7. Finish and Appearance7.1

27、All units shall be sound and free of cracks or otherdefects that interfere with the proper placement of the units orsignificantly impair the strength or permanence of the construc-tion. Minor cracks incidental to the usual method of manufac-ture or minor chipping resulting from customary methods ofh

28、andling in shipment and delivery are not grounds for rejec-tion.8. Methods of Sampling and Testing8.1 The purchaser or authorized representative shall beaccorded proper facilities to inspect and sample the concretebuilding brick at the place of manufacture from the lots readyfor delivery.8.2 Sample

29、and test concrete building brick in accordancewith Test Methods C 140 and Test Method C 426, whenapplicable.8.3 Total linear drying shrinkage shall be based on tests ofconcrete building brick made with the same materials, concretemix design, manufacturing process, and curing method, con-ducted in ac

30、cordance with Test Method C 426 not more than 24months prior to delivery.9. Compliance9.1 If a sample fails to conform to the specified require-ments, the manufacturer shall be permitted to remove unitsfrom the shipment. A new sample shall be selected by thepurchaser from remaining units from the sh

31、ipment with asimilar configuration and dimension and tested at the expenseof the manufacturer. If the second sample meets the specifiedrequirements, the remaining portion of the shipment repre-sented by the sample meets the specified requirements. If thesecond sample fails to meet the specified requ
