1、Designation: C 1031 05Standard Specification forNuclear-Grade Aluminum Oxide Powder1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C 1031; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in
2、parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This specification provides the chemical and physicalrequirements for nuclear-grade aluminum oxide powder in-tended for fabrication into shapes
3、for nuclear applications. Twospecific uses for which this powder is intended are Al2O3pellets and Al2O3B4C composite pellets for use as thermalinsulator or burnable neutron absorbers, respectively.1.2 The material described herein shall be particulate innature.2. Terminology3.1 Descriptions of Terms Specific to This StandardTermsshall be defined in
6、 accordance with Terminology C 859 exceptfor the following:3.1.1 buyerorganization issuing the purchase order.3.1.2 powder lotthat quantity of aluminum oxide powdermade up of powder from one or more sources, blended togethersuch that samples taken in accordance with the procedures inSection 8 can be
7、 considered as representative of the entirequantity.3.1.3 selleraluminum oxide manufacturer.4. Ordering Information4.1 The buyer shall specify the following information on theorder:4.1.1 Quantity (weight of delivered product),4.1.2 Lot size (allowable range),4.1.3 Sample requirements, and4.1.4 Parti
8、cle size distribution.5. Chemical Composition5.1 The powder shall conform to the following chemicalrequirements (see Methods C 809):Element Weight %, maxSilicon 2.0Iron-Chromium-Nickel 0.6Magnesium 1.0Sodium 0.2Calcium 0.3Hafnium 200 g/g Al2O3Fluorine 50 g/g Al2O3Fluorine-Chlorine-Iodine-Bromine 100
9、 g/g Al2O3Gadolinium 100 g/g Al2O3Samarium 100 g/g Al2O3Europium 100 g/g Al2O3Dysprosium 200 g/g Al2O35.2 The total concentration of all impurities, the impuritieslisted in 5.1, and any other identified impurity exceeding 1.0weight % shall be reported. The total of all measured impuri-ties shall not
10、 exceed 4.0 weight %.5.3 Loss-on-IgnitionThe test method and acceptance lim-its for loss-on-ignition shall be agreed upon between the buyerand the seller.NOTE 1The buyer may specify limits for any other elements (forexample, neutron absorbing materials, such as boron) not listed in 5.1.6. Physical R
11、equirements6.1 The particle size distribution shall have a mean value of6 m or less. The particle size distribution will be determinedutilizing a method approved by the buyer.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee C26 onNuclear Fuel Cycle and is the direct responsibility of
