Ordering Information3.1 Orders for castings under this specification shall includethe following information:3.1.1 Quantity of each casting,3.1.2 Alloy (Section 6 a
9、nd Table 1),3.1.3 Temper (see 5.1 and Table 2),3.1.4 Casting drawing giving all necessary dimensions andshowing amount of finish left for machining,3.1.5 Surface treatment (see 10.1),3.1.6 Whether certification is required (see 11.1),3.1.7 Whether inspection is required at the manufacturersworks (se
10、e 12.1), and3.1.8 Special inspection requirements (see 12.3).4. Materials and Manufacture4.1 The responsibility for furnishing castings that can belaid out and machined to the finished dimensions within thepermissible variations specified, as shown on the drawings,shall rest with the manufacturer, e
11、xcept where mold equipmentis furnished by the purchaser. Sufficient stock shall be allowedfor shrinkage and, where required, for finishing; but castings ofexcessive weight shall not be furnished.5. Treatment5.1 The castings may be subjected to such heat treatment asthe manufacturer desires to produc

Heat treatment shall be per-formed on the whole of the casting, never on a part only, andshall be applied in a manner that will produce uniformity.Unless otherwise specified, treatment shall be in accordancewith Practice B 661.6. Chem
16、ical Composition6.1 The castings shall conform to the chemical compositionlimits in Table 1.6.2 The chemical analysis shall be made in accordance withTest Methods E35, or by any other approved methods agreedupon by the manufacturer and the purchaser. The analysis maybe made spectrochemically provide
17、d that, in case of disagree-ment, the results secured by Test Methods E35shall be thebasis for acceptance.6.3 The sampling shall be in accordance with Practice E88.7. Tensile Properties7.1 LimitsThe tension test specimens representing thecastings shall conform to the requirements for tensile proper-
18、ties prescribed in Table 2.7.2 Number of Tests:7.2.1 At least two tension test specimens shall be cast fromeach melt of 2000 lb (907 kg) or fraction thereof to representthe castings poured from the same melt. If the castings are tobe heat treated, the specimens shall be heat treated withproduction c
19、astings of the same alloy and in the same temperas the specimens.7.2.2 Each heat-treating furnace charge shall include at leasttwo tension test specimens poured from a production melt.Such specimens shall be of the same alloy and in the sametemper as the castings, and shall be tested to judge the qu
20、alityof the heat-treating operation given the furnace charge.7.3 Test Specimens:7.3.1 The tension test specimens shall be separately cast inthe same refractory material as the castings. The specimenshould be “cast to size” according to the dimensions of the0.250-in. (6.35-mm) diameter round specimen
21、 shown in Fig. 8of Test Methods B 557. They shall not be machined prior to testexcept to adapt the grip ends to the holders of the testingmachine to assure axial loading.7.3.2 If any tension test specimen is improperly machinedor shows flaws upon testing, it may be discarded and anotherspecimen from
22、 the same heat or melt used instead. If noadditional specimen is available, the manufacturer and thepurchaser shall agree on an alternative procedure.7.4 Test MethodsThe tension tests shall be made inaccordance with Test Methods B 557.8. Retests8.1 If any test specimen fails to conform to the prescr
23、ibedrequirements, two additional representative specimens shall beselected and tested. If either of these specimens fails toconform to the requirements, the lot may be rejected. If,however, the specimen failure is due to inadequate thermaltreatment, the material may be reheat-treated and resampled i
24、naccordance with 7.2. Castings may be reheat-treated no morethan twice.9. General Quality9.1 The castings shall be of uniform quality and condition,free from cracks and other injurious defects, and shall becleaned before inspection by blasting or other approved pro-cess.9.2 Castings shall not be rep
