Scope*1.1 This specification covers masonry joint reinforcementfabricated from cold-drawn steel wire. Joint reinforcementconsists of lo
3、ngitudinal wires welded to cross wires.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound or SI units are to beregarded as standard. Within the text the inch-pound units areshown in brackets. The values stated in each system are notexact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used inde-pendently of the other.

Ordering Information3.1 It shall be the responsibility of t
6、he purchaser to specifyall requirements that are necessary for the manufacture anddelivery of the wire under this specification. Such requirementsto be considered include, but are not limited to, the following:3.1.1 Quantity (metres linear feet),3.1.2 Type (truss, ladder),3.1.3 Width (nominal thickn
7、ess of masonry wall),3.1.4 Wire size and wire specification,3.1.5 Finish (see Section 6),3.1.6 Packaging (see Section 12), and3.1.7 ASTM designation number and year of issue.4. Materials and Manufacture4.1 Wire used in the manufacture of masonry joint rein-forcement shall be round and shaped and con
8、form to theapplicable provisions of Specification A 82/A 82M or A 580/A 580M, Type 304, except as modified herein.4.2 Masonry joint reinforcement shall be assembled byautomatic machines or by other suitable mechanical means thatwill assure accurate spacing and alignment of all members ofthe finished
9、 product.4.3 Longitudinal and cross wires shall be securely con-nected at every intersection by an electric-resistance weldingprocess that includes both fusion welding together with appliedpressure to join the materials.4.4 Longitudinal wires shall be deformed. One set of twodeformations shall occur
10、 around the perimeter of the wire at amaximum spacing of 0.7 times the diameter or width of thewire, but not less than eight sets per 25 mm 1 in. of length.NOTE 1Wire used for joint reinforcement is knurled to form defor-mations and as such it does not come under the deformation requirementsin Speci

Mechanical Requirements5.1 Tensile PropertiesWire used in the fabrication ofmasonry joint reinforcement shall conform to the requirementsof Table 1 based on nominal area of the wire.5.2 Tension Tests:5.2.1 Tension tests shall be made on individual wires cutfrom the finished
12、product and tested either across or betweenthe welds. No less than 50 % shall be across welds.5.2.2 Tension tests across a weld shall have the welded jointlocated approximately at the center of the wire being tested.5.2.3 Tensile strength shall be the average of four test valuesdetermined by dividin
13、g the maximum test load by the specifiednominal cross-sectional area of the wire.5.3 Reduction of AreaThe ruptured section of the tensilespecimen is measured to determine this property. The measure-ment shall be made only when rupture has occurred at asufficient distance from the center of the weld
14、to permit anaccurate measurement of the fractured section. The wire shall meet the minimumreduction of area requirements of Table 1.5.4 Weld Shear StrengthThe weld shear strength in New-tons shall not be less than 172 multiplied by the nominal areain square millimetres or in pounds-force shall not be less than25 000 multiplied by
18、 the specified nominal area of the largerwire in square inches.NOTE 2Since industry practice is to use butt welds in the manufactureof joint reinforcement, the weld shear strength in pounds-force isprescribed as 25 000 times the area of the larger wire rather than 35 000times the area of the larger
19、wire.5.5 Weld Shear Strength Tests:5.5.1 Test specimens shall be obtained from the finishedproduct by cutting a section of longitudinal wire that includesone weld.5.5.2 Weld shear strength tests shall be conducted using afixture of such design as to prevent rotation of the cross wire.The cross wire
20、shall be placed in the anvil of the testing devicewhich is secured in the tensile machine and the load thenapplied to the longitudinal wire.5.5.3 Weld shear strength shall be the average test load inNewtons pounds of four test specimens selected at random.5.6 Bend Tests:5.6.1 Test specimens shall be
21、 obtained from the fabricatedproduct by cutting a section of longitudinal wire without welds.5.6.2 The test specimens shall be bent at room temperaturethrough 180 around a pin, the diameter of which is equal tothe nominal diameter of the specified wire. Shaped wires shallbe placed on the pin so that
22、 the minimum dimension isperpendicular to the axis of the pin.5.6.3 The specimen shall not break nor shall there be visiblecracks of the base metal on the outside diameter of the bend.6. Other Requirements6.1 When corrosion protection of joint reinforcement isprovided, it shall be in accordance with
23、 one of the following:6.1.1 Mill GalvanizedZinc coated, in accordance with thehot-dip method of Specification A 641, with a minimum of 30g/m20.1 oz per sq. ft. of surface area. It shall be permissibleto apply the coating before fabrication.6.1.2 Hot-Dip GalvanizedZinc coated, by the hot-dipmethod, i
24、n accordance with Specification A 153/A 153M,Class B (average zinc coating of 458 g/m21.50 oz per sq. ft.).The coating shall be applied after fabrication.7. Dimensions and Tolerances7.1 Longitudinal WiresThe minimum size of longitudinalwires shall be MW7 W1.1.7.2 Cross WiresThe minimum size of cross
