12、: Plastics waste traps 1 Scope This part of the specification covers waste traps, other than traps for soil water, moulded from thermoplastic materials, and designed to be used for domestic purposes with baths, sinks, showers, and other waste water fitments that have appropriately sized outlets. NOT

13、E Requirements that must be specified by the purchaser are listed in Appendix A. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this part of the specification the following definitions shall apply: acceptable acceptable to the authority administering this standard, or to the parties concluding the purchase contr

20、utes the shortest route open to water passing through the trap from the inlet to the outlet 3 Requirements 3.1 Type Plastics waste traps shall be of one of the following types, as specified by the purchaser: a) Dip-tube bottle trap; b) “P“ trap (ordinary); c) “P“ trap (resealing); d) “P“ trap for ba

21、ths (ordinary); e) “P“ trap for baths (resealing); f) “S“ trap (ordinary); g) “S“ trap (resealing). 3.2 Materials The plastics material shall be such as to enable the traps to comply with all the relevant requirements given in 3.6 to 3.14 inclusive. Metal coupling nuts shall be of a suitable brass o

22、r other copper alloy. This standard may only be used and printed by approved subscription and freemailing clients of the SABS.SANS 1321-1:2009 Edition 1.1 5 3.3 Design The design of a trap shall be such that any change in the shape or size of the bore in the direction of flow will not provide lodgem

23、ent for solid matter. Screw threads formed in plastics materials shall be moulded. 3.4 Construction and dimensions 3.4.1 General a) Trap construction. A waste trap shall consist of a main body which may be composite, i.e., consisting of two or more components) and an outer connecting component at ea

24、ch end serving to connect the inlet and outlet of the trap to the appropriate waste fittings (respectively, the waste outlet of a sanitary appliance and the inlet of a waste pipe). All connections between the components of trap, and between the trap and a waste fitting, shall be such as will ensure

25、acceptance leak-proof. Each threaded connecting part or fitment (for example, coupling nut, or socket) shall have a length of engagement of at least four full threads. b) Outer connecting components. An outer connecting component shall be a threaded socket, or a nipple or a coupling nut, or a plain

26、socket, or a plain spigot of (in each case) such design and size as to ensure acceptable mating with, as well as ready attachment to and detachment from, a metal or plastics waste fitting of the same nominal size. If an outer connecting component is a threaded socket or a nipple, it shall also accep

27、tably mate with the appropriate part of the body of the trap. c) Limb angle (in “P“ traps). When the inlet limb of a “P“ trap is vertical, the outlet limb shall slope downwards from the horizontal at an angle within 1 15 to 5 0. 3.4.2 Inlet and outlet sizes and size designations a) Bore sizes and si

28、ze tolerance 1) The bore of the outlet of a trap shall be at least that of the inlet, subject to the tolerance given in below; the bore of the inlet shall also be at least equal to that of the corresponding mating waste fitting at the junction. 2) The bore of the inlet or outlet of a trap shall be a

29、t least the nominal bore minus 3 mm. b) Size and material designations. The outer end (i.e. that end connecting with a waste fitting of each outer connecting component of the inlet and outlet limbs of a trap shall be marked with a designation of the material and the nominal size of the relevant mati

30、ng connection of the waste fitting; if more than one waste fitting is suitable, each appropriate designation shall be shown. The opposite end of the component (i.e. the end on the side of the body of the trap) shall be similarly marked with a designation of the material (i.e. plastics) and the nomin

31、al size of the relevant mating connection of the appropriate terminal part or component of the trap body. Each individual designation shall comprise the letter “M“ or “P“ (for metal and plastics mating connections respectively) and a nominal size number, which shall be 32, 40, or 50 for metal connec

32、tions, and 40 or 50 for plastics connections. For example, where only one mating connection (of one material and size only) is suitable, the designation might be M40, or P50, or M32, etc., while where the end of the component may be connected to either, say, a size 32 metal waste fitting or a size 4

33、0 plastics fitting, the designation would be M32/P40. A coupling nut which does not itself serve as an outer coupling component, but which joins such a component to the body of the trap, shall also be marked, as prescribed for outer connecting components, with the following designations: This standa

The material letter and nominal size number of the relevant mating connection of the outer connecting component. 2) Inner end. The material letter and nominal siz

35、e number of the appropriate part or component of the trap body. 3.4.3 Nominal size of a trap The nominal size of a trap shall be as specified by the purchaser, and shall be designated by a combination of the designations, in accordance with 3.4.2(b), of the required inlet and outlet components, give

36、n in that order and separated by the multiplication sign, e.g., M32 P50. NOTE The nominal bores of steel pipes of size 32 mm and of uPVC plastics pipes of nominal size 40 mm are the same, as are those of steel pipes of size 40 mm and uPVC pipes of nominal size 50 mm. 3.4.4 Height of inlet of “P“ and

37、 “S“ traps When the appropriate connection is so made that the end face of the inlet limb of a trap (exclusive of any socket) is in contact with the end face of a matching waste outlet along a horizontal plane, and the level of that plane lies below the highest point of any other part of the trap, t

38、he difference in height shall not exceed the appropriate of the following maxima: a) “P“ traps (other than bath traps) : 13 mm, max. b) “P“ traps for baths : 29 mm, max. c) “S“ traps : 22 mm, max. 3.4.5 Cross-sectional area of waterway The cross-sectional area at any point in the waterway of a waste

39、 trap shall be at least equal to the area of a circle of diameter 3 mm less than the bore of the inlet of the trap. 3.4.6 Depth of seal A plastics waste trap shall have a nominal depth of water seal of either 40 mm or 75 mm, as specified by the purchaser. The corresponding actual depths of seal shal

40、l be 40 mm 1 mm and 75 mm 2 mm respectively. 3.4.7 Connection of bath overflow to traps for baths Traps for baths shall make provision for the connection of the bath overflow pipe. The location of the bath overflow connection on the bath trap shall be such that it does not impair the efficacy of the

41、 water seal and the proper functioning of the trap; if the connection is not on the inlet side of the trap, the highest part of its bore shall be not higher than the lip of the trap. The bath overflow connection shall provide an inlet to the trap of internal diameter at least 21 mm and, unless the p

42、rovision of a tail pipe (bent or straight) and coupling nut has been specified by the purchaser, shall be equipped with a readily removable watertight cap. 3.5 Access for cleaning The interior of a trap shall be accessible for cleaning. Access shall be provided by at least one of the following means

43、: a) Design and construction that permit easy disconnection of the trap. This standard may only be used and printed by approved subscription and freemailing clients of the SABS.SANS 1321-1:2009 Edition 1.1 7 b) An access opening (cleaning eye) of diameter at least 21 mm so positioned that it is belo

44、w the water-line when the trap is fully charged. The opening shall be located at a suitable point (which in traps other than bath traps will normally be in the lowest part of the trap). In the case of a bath trap, the cleaning eye shall not be at the bottom of the trap, and its hand 1)shall be as sp

45、ecified by the purchaser. c) In bottle traps, a detachable bowl of internal radius at least 20 mm, or a detachable lower part of the trap. When so specified by the purchaser, a trap designed to be readily disconnected (see (a) above) shall be fitted with a cleaning eye. No part of a means of access

46、as described in (b) and (c) above shall obstruct the waterway. 3.6 Internal clearance The dimensions of a trap shall be such that (a) before, and (b) after it has been subjected to temperature cycling in accordance with 6.3, a steel ball (of diameter 10 mm in the case of a dip-tube bottle trap, and

47、20 mm in all other cases) can be passed through from inlet to outlet without hindrance. 3.7 Resistance to temperature cycling When a trap is tested in accordance with 6.3, a) it shall not, at the end of the test, show any sign of deformation, blistering, or cracking, and any change in a major extern

48、al dimension shall not exceed 6 %, b) no joint shall leak during the test or when, at the end of the test, the rig is filled with water to 150 mm 10 mm above the highest joint, and c) it shall, on completion of the test, still be capable of being readily disconnected and satisfactorily reconnected a

49、t both inlet and outlet. 3.8 Resistance to impact When tested in accordance with 6.4, a trap shall show no visible sign of damage or deformation. 3.9 Resistance to indentation When a trap is tested in accordance with 6.5, the depth of the indentation shall not exceed 9,0 mm. 3.10 Residual stress When a trap is tested in accordance with 6.6, it shall show no sign of cracking or of surface degeneration, and shall not be distorted to such an extent that its ability to maintain a water seal is affected. 3.11 Freedom from leakage When a trap is tested in accordance with 6.7, th
