This specification sets forth the content and format requirements for Functionally Oriented Maintenance Manuals (FOMM) (see 6.5.7) and revisions (see 6.5.45), and changes thereto, neces

3、sary for the installation, operation, organizational-level (see 6.5.35), intermediate-level (see 6.5.26), and depot-level maintenance repair (see 6.5.42), and parts (see 6.5.38) support of equipment (see 6.5.12), systems (see 6.5.53), and subsystems (see 6.5.54), without the services of manufacturer

4、s representa- tives, Maintenance manuals are the fundamental operational and maintenance data base for the military operational and service forces, and are baseline documents for training of personnel. 1.1.1 Concept. The FOMM consists fundamentally of illustrations supported by narrative, vice narra

5、tive supported by illustrations as in conventional manuals, A FOMM is a complete operational and maintenance technical data base for the equipment or system it supports. disciplined manner that shows clearly the functional and physical relationships that exist in an equipment or system. FOMM manuals

6、 present data in a 1.1.1.1 diagrams, blocked schematics, with keyed text, and maintenance dependency charts (MDC). These illustrations use symbols and distinctively shaped line art blocks to convey maximum information in a minimum of space. FOMM illustrations consist of logically arranged functional

To present all technical data with reliance on all pictorial information supported by minimum narrative that is keyed to the illustration such that only required descriptive information needs to be read. To present a troubleshooting concept that defines all parameters necessary for

13、proper operation (positive troubleshooting) such that any fault may be determined between its last,good indication and its first bad indication (as opposed to symptoms and potential problem determinations normally used in standard technical manuals). To utilize a diagramatic concept (dependency char

14、t) to assure that an equipment or system can be 100 percent checked out as functioning properly in all modes of operation through the exercise of all operating controls and switch positions. (This has normally not been possible in standard technical manuals through the use of signal flow block diagr

15、ams because of space limitations.) To simplify diagrams by using a shading technique to denote hardware without hard lines that conflict with or confuse circuitry or signal flow. To present all information in a manner that a technician will normally troubleshoot, diagnose, and isolate potential prob

16、lems. To eliminate foldouts, by employing a two facing page landscape concept that provides up to 11 by 33 inches of data, because of their difficulty of use and expense in printing, binding, and handling. To present all data in information packages such that all needed materials to perform an actio

17、n is included within the package. The information packages employs a referencing technique intended to ensure that the technician is never dead-ended. To provide a reduced size reproduction of complex system troubleshooting information for use by technicians in limited space or poor environments. To

18、 provide information in such a manner that it can be generated on electronic displays by computer access. 1.1.3 The FOMM is arranged to separate (normally by separate Support Volumes and Troubleshooting/Repair Volumes) the data required to troubleshoot and repair the equipment from that information

This approach addresses the Technicians Handbook“ concept whic

20、h 3s intended to provide the qualified technician during troubleshooting and repair in one volume only, that informa- tion he requires to troubleshoot the equipment and isolate a fault to a unit of hardware without being encumbered by baseline data needed for other purposes. Further, all information

21、 required for the maintenance and repair of the equipment is arranged into hardware data packages and indexed sequentially by unit, assembly, and subassembly number. Thus all data required to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair a given unit or assembly is in a single work package that can be used wit

22、hout reference to other parts of the manual. Hardware data packages can be bound separately, when advisable to facilitate use (see 3.1.3). For example, to limit thickness (see 3.6.2.1) or so that the FOMM can be placed at the location of the respective assembly when equipment units are installed in

23、different rooms or compartments. In addition, this specification covers the requirements for an approximate 5 by 10-1/2 inch sized reprinting of the “Troubleshooting/Repair Volume“ so that a technician can carry this smaller volume in his pocket. 1.1.4 Issues. This specification covers the content,
