S. Marine Corps, Department of the Navy, and is available for use b
2、y all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope, This specification covers requirements for Schiffli embroidered grade insignia stitched with rayon yarn on woolen cloth 1.2 Classification. Grade insignia shall be of one type in the following classes as specified (see
3、6.2). Class A - Sergeant Major Class B - First Sergeant Class C - Gunnery Sergeant Class D - Staff Sergeant Class E - Sergeant Class F - Corporal Class G - Private First Class 2. Standard samples are furnished solely for guidance and information to the contractor (see 6.3). this specification may appear in the sample, in which case the specification shall govern. Varia
13、tion from 3.2 First article. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), before production is commenced, a finished insignia shall be submitted or made ready for the contracting officer or his authorized repreienta- tive for inspection as specified in 4.4. The approval of the first article authorizes the
14、commencement of production but does not relieve the contractor of responsibility for compliance with all applicable provisions of this specification. The first article shall be manu- factured by the contractor in the same facilities to be used for the manufacture of the production items. 3.3 Materi

The basic fabric shall be cloth, wool, broad- cloth, scarlet shade 2501, 16.5 ounce per linear yard of 54 inch width, co
16、nforming to type I, class 4 of MIL-C-82252 except the color shall be produced by stock dying and the finished cloth shall show fair fastness to crocking, perspiration, wet-dry cleaning and light. 3.3.2 Buckram. The buckram for backing the insignia shall be a light, open weave, single ply fabric weig
17、hing 2.5 ounces minimum per square yard, having a minimum thread count per inch of 40 in the warp and 20 in the filling, and having a minimum breaking strength of 30 pounds in the warp direction and 20 pounds in the filling direction when tested as specified in Section 4, Table II. 3.3.3 Embroidery
18、yarn. The embroidery yarn shall be first quality continuous filament, regenerated cellulose type of rayon twisted into 75/2 denier Schiffli yarn. 3.3.3.1 Color and colorfastness. The yarn shall be dyed with vat or napthol colors to match the approved standard shade Gold (HF) Cable #67016. The colors
19、 shall show good fastness to wet (dry) cleaning and light for all insignia when tested as specified in Section 4, Table III. 3.3.3.1.1 Matching. The color shall match the approved standard shade under natural (north sky) daylight or artificial daylight having a color temperature of 7,5000 Kelvin, an
20、d shall be a good approxima- tion to the approved standard shade under incandescent lamplight at 2,8000 Kelvin. 3.3.4 Bobbin yarn. Bobbin yarn shall be continuous filament nylon yarn or two-ply cotton yarn. The yarn shall be undyed, bleached or unbleached. 3.4 Design. Each class of insignia shall co
21、nform in all respects to the design of an approved sample and Dr awing NO . 69518080000. 3.5 Construction. 3.5.1 Embroidering. The insignia shall be embroidered on Schiff li- type embroidery machines on the base cloth specified and in accordance with the approved sample. The embroidery stitches shal
22、l be not more than 4/32 inch in length. Care shall be exercised in embroidering the lamp device on the insignia so that in the finished insignia, the lamp device shall be horizontally level and the tip of the flame and handle of the lamp shall be equidistant from the lower edge of bottom bar. The in
23、signia shall be produced in pairs consisting of a right and left hand insignia.
