19、itigate, by circuit interruption, the effects of(a)overload within utilization equipment; or(b) over- or under-voltage, or both,that can pose a risk of fire ignition under certain conditions.These devices are to be incorporated in certified (end) products intended for use on alternating current (ac)

20、 circuits of 120 V, 60 Hz, up to 20 A in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.1.2Devices covered by this Standard are called out of parameter circuit interrupters (OPCI), and there are three types:(a)OPCI-I an OPCI for overload current within a load;(b) OPCI-V an OPCI for over or und

21、er voltage; and(c) OPCI-VI an OPCI incorporating both OPCI-I and OPCI-V functions.1.3In CSA standards, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is a

33、often in excess of 10 times normal.Short-circuit current overcurrent resulting from a short-circuit.Undervoltage any voltage less than specified limits in magnitude for more than specified times.4 General requirementsGeneral requirements applicable to this Standard are specified in CAN/CSA-C22.2 No.

34、 0, General Requirements Canadian Electrical Code, Part II.5 Construction5.1 General5.1.1Except as indicated in Clause 5.1.2, a component of a product covered by this Standard shall comply with the requirements for that component. See Annex A for a list of Standards covering components generally use

35、d in the products covered by this Standard.5.1.2A component need not comply with a specific requirement that(a)involves a feature or characteristic not needed in the application of the component in the product covered by this Standard; or(b) is superseded by a requirement in this Standard.5.2 Markin

36、gs5.2.1Unless otherwise specified, OPCIs shall be legibly and permanently marked, where the marking will be readily visible prior to installation5.2.2OPCIs shall be marked with the name, registered trademark, or other recognized symbol of identification of the manufacturer and maximum electrical rat

37、ing in volts and amps.5.2.3Devices intended for use only on alternating current shall be marked “ac”, “”, or “60 Hz”.5.2.4OPCIs intended for installation in ambient exceeding 40 C shall be marked “MAX xx C” where xx is the manufacturers specified maximum operating ambient temperature.5.2.5OPCIs shal

38、l be visibly and permanently marked “OPCI-I”, “OPCI-V”, or “OPCI-VI” as appropriate. End products incorporating OPCIs shall bear the same marking. For flush-mounted wiring devices, the marking shall be readily visible after installation (e.g., with the cover plate removed). C22.2 No. 265-12 2012 CSA

39、 Group4 August 20125.2.6OPCI-Is and OPCI-VIs with a single current threshold shall be marked “OPCI-I XX A” or “OPCI-VI XX A”, as appropriate, where XX is the manufacturers specified threshold.5.2.7OPCI-Is and OPCI-VIs with multiple or variable current thresholds shall be marked “OPCI-I MULTI XX A” o

40、r “OPCI-VI MULTI XX A”, as appropriate, where XX is the manufacturers specified maximum threshold.5.2.8An OPCI device shall be legibly and permanently marked with the date, or other dating period, of manufacture not exceeding any three consecutive months. The date of manufacture may be abbreviated,

41、in a conventional code, or in a code affirmed by the manufacturer, provided that the code does not repeat in less than 20 years and does not require reference to the production records of the manufacturer to determine when the product was manufactured.5.3 Operation5.3.1OPCI device mitigating overloa

42、d current conditions shall interrupt the circuit and shall comply with Clause 8.2, Voltage tests.5.3.2OPCI device mitigating under- and over-voltage conditions shall interrupt the circuit and shall comply with Clause 8.3, Current tests.5.3.3All OPCIs shall require a manual operation to restore the i

43、nterrupted circuit. A manual operation shall be any mechanically initiated event, such as an ON/OFF switch in an appliance, insertion/removal of an attachment plug in a receptacle, pressing a reset button, or removal and restoration of the supply voltage.5.3.4OPCI-Is in receptacles may automatically

44、 and independently set the threshold level appropriate for each connected load without any user intervention. OPCI-Is, when used with a plug that is incompatible with the automatic setting mechanism, shall use the maximum OPCI-I threshold supported by the receptacle or a default threshold selected b

45、y the installer.5.3.5Devices with multiple female contact devices for connection of more than one attachment plug shall monitor each female contact device independently for overload, but may have a common interrupting means for all female contact devices.5.3.6The operation of the OPCI shall not be p

46、revented by manipulation or restraint of accessible control levers, knobs, and the like of the OPCI device. To verify compliance, see Clause 6.2.35.4 End of lifeWhen an OPCI reaches its end of life, it shall(a)visually or audibly (or both) indicate, within one second, that it has reached end of life

47、; (b) permanently interrupt the electric circuit to the load within one second; or(c) interrupt the electric circuit to the load within one second and interrupt within one second each time the device is reset. 2012 CSA Group Out of parameter circuit interrupter (OPCI)August 2012 5An OPCI that has re

48、ached end of life due to disconnecting means failing short, as tested by Clause 9.6, shall not be required to comply with Clauses 5.4(b) and (c).5.5 Automatic self-test function5.5.1An OPCI shall be provided with a means of testing for component or circuit failures that could result in(a)failure to

49、trip under conditions where tripping is intended to occur; or(b) failure of the self-test function to successfully detect failures.5.5.2The automatic self-test function shall not interfere with the normal fault detection functions of the OPCI.5.5.3The automatic self-test function shall not test the interrupting means.5.5.4An OPCI shall operate its
