7、OOL218L 927 m SECTION 1 INTRODUCTION ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) is an acronym describing the provision of a wide range of existing and new telecommunications services over digital networks, making them available to customers through a standardised single access point. ISDN removes th

8、e barriers between speech, data, text and video services, integrating them into a single digital telecommunications network. The provision of end-to-end digital connectivity guarantees high-quality network performance to customers. ISDN provides significant benefits to the customer in terms of avail

9、ability of services and usage flexibility. Cost effectiveness due to more efficient utilisation of telecommunications facilities are an added benefit from a customers point of view. ISDN offers a range of services particularly suitable for emerging new (customer) applications. In particular the busi

10、ness world can benefit from the increased speed of ISDN connectivity and conformity to international standards. Conformity to international standards will guarantee the use of compatible equipment and terminals and make international interconnection possible in an easy and economical matter. The int

11、roduction of ISDN is carried out in such a way as to ensure that it coexists and interworks with existing dedicated networks. and that ISDN terminals will communicate with non-ISDN terminals. ISDN can therefore be seen as a most attractive and powerful tool available to the business community worldw

12、ide. 4 SECTION 2 TERMS AND DEFINITIONS This section provides definitions for a number of terms used in section 3. ISDN PSTN PSPDN = Packet Switched Public Data Network = Integrated Services Digital Network = Public Switched Telephone Network CHANNELS Two types of channel are defined in the ISDN: aj

TYPES OF INTERFACE (or REFERENCE POINTS) Interfaces are defined as the points at which dissimilar (or similar) equi

18、pment or functions are interconnected. In ISDN different reference points are defined. For the user, these reference points are the S and T interfaces in the case where ISDN terminal equipment is used. 21、0032L32 702 TERMS AND DEFINITIONS (continued) Call forwarding, busy This service enables the forwarding of incoming calls to another number (either all or those associated with the voice service), if a busy signal is returned. Call forwarding, no reply This service allows the forwarding of incoming

22、calls to another number (either all or those associated with the voice service), if a call is not answered. Call deflection This service enables a user, at the moment of receiving a call, to decide whether he wants to answer or forward it to another number. This service allocates the call charges fu

23、lly or partially to the called party. On the telephone network, this service is known as Green Number or 800 Service. This service enables a user to request the network to register the source of an incoming call for further identification. This service enables calls to be made directly/ one specific

24、 terminal of up to eight connected to a basic access. In a clustered terminal equipment configuration, the service allows expanded terminal selection beyond the ISDN access number with a supplementary address (added to the usual ISDN access number). This service is only available over a basic access

25、 and allows a user to move or change terminal device from one plug to another on the same basic access during a call. This service enables a user to have a selective three-way (simultaneous or alternate) call. This service allows a user to send or receive a limited amount of user information over th

26、e D-channel. 27、 charge elements may be encountered: Registration charge This is a once-only charge to open a user account. Fixed charge - Installation charge - Periodic connection charge It can be applied to: - the subscriber line - bearer service(s) - teleservice(s) - supplementary service(s) or a combination of

28、these. Call charge - Call attempt charge - Call setup charge - Duration charge - Volume charge This charge is made after completion of the technical setup procedure. This charge is made for each successful call attempt. This is based on call duration and could be zone-dependent. This is based on the
