7、r the direction of the Aerospace Standards Policy Committee and specifies the requirements for survivor location lights for fitment to lifejackets used in airborne applications. Lifejacket lights enable survivors to be located quickly during the hours of darkness and failure to operate could prejudi

8、ce survival. It is essential, therefore, that good design and manufacturing practices are applied to the production of this equipment. It has been assumed in the drafting of this BritishStandard that the execution of its provisions is entrusted to appropriately qualified and experienced people. The

9、approving authority referred to in this standard is the body responsible for authorizing the manufacturer or supplier to issue certification, when to certify means to attest as meeting a standard. WARNING. This BritishStandard calls for the use of substances and procedures that may be injurious to h

10、ealth if adequate precautions are not taken. It refers only to technical suitability and does not absolve the user from legal obligations relating to health and safety at any stage. 13、 locator lights for fitment to lifejackets used in airborne applications. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this Part of BSG247, the following definitions apply. 2.1 storage life the period during which the unit may be stored, under specified conditions, and still meet all performance requirements i

14、n use 2.2 light unit a complete assembly comprising light source, cabling, battery and associated components 2.3 primary battery a source of electrical energy obtained by the direct conversion of chemical energy NOTEWhen ready for delivery, a primary battery includes terminals and may include a case

The word “battery” can refer to one single complete cell. 2.4 active battery a battery which is completely self-contained and requires no initiating action before delivering current 2.5 reserve battery a battery which requires initiating action, usually that of introducing electrolyte, before deli

16、vering current 2.6 discharge a procedure by which a cell or battery delivers current to an external circuit 2.7 end-point voltage (V e ) the on-load voltage of a light unit battery at the end of discharge 3 Individual specification sheet The manufacturer shall prepare an individual specification she

17、et which complies with Appendix A of this standard for each type of light unit produced. The individual specification sheet shall define the values for parameters given in Appendix A. 4 Design 4.1 Construction Light units shall be constructed to comply with clause4 to clause7 of this BritishStandard

18、. 4.2 Materials Materials used in the manufacture of light units shall be: a) compatible with the materials used in the manufacture of life jackets; and b) rot and corrosion resistant and unaffected by sea water, oil or fungal attack. 4.3 Attachment The method of attachment of the light unit shall c

19、omply with5.1.4. The light unit shall be capable of removal and replacement without causing damage to a lifejacket, and shall not have any adverse effect on the performance of a lifejacket to which it is attached. 4.4 Reflectors and lenses Lenses or curved reflectors, if fitted, shall meet the requi

20、rements of5.2.3 and5.2.4. 4.5 Electronic components Components of electronic circuits shall comply with quality control requirements of BS9000-1 or of an equivalent standard. Components which cannot be obtained to this standard shall be covered by a Certificate of Conformity from the manufacturer of

21、 the components. 4.6 Battery If a lithium battery is selected as the power source, it shall comply with the design requirements given in clause5 of BSG239:1987 when within the lifejacket light unit. WARNING. Certain lithium batteries under certain conditions can be hazardous. 4.7 Switching Lifejacke

22、t light illumination shall switch on automatically upon deployment. 4.8 Servicing The light unit shall include the means to show that it has not been operated during its specified life. 5 Performance 5.1 Environmental 5.1.1 Operational temperature range When tested in accordance withB.1 andB.2, the

23、light unit shall operate as specified in5.2 throughout the temperature ranges: a) for active batteries unless immersed in water,30 C to+30 C;BSG247-1:1992 2 BSI 01-2000 b) for water activated applications or active batteries mounted on the lifejacket such that they are immersed,1 C to+30 C. 5.1.2 Te

24、mperature Following storage within the temperature range40 C to+70 C, the light unit shall exhibit no sign of physical distress and shall comply with5.2. 5.1.3 Drop When tested in accordance withB.3, the light unit shall not be damaged and shall remain fully functional. 5.1.4 Jump When tested in acc

25、ordance withB.4, the light unit when attached to a lifejacket shall not be dislodged or damaged and shall remain fully functional. 5.1.5 Acceleration When tested in accordance withB.5, the light unit shall show no signs of damage or leaks and shall remain fully functional. 5.1.6 Vibration When teste

26、d in accordance withB.6, the light unit shall show no signs of physical damage or leaks and shall remain fully functional. 5.1.7 Altitude When tested in accordance with either BS3G100-2.3.2 or BS2G229 (Eurocae ED-14B/RTCAD0-160B 1)section4.6), the light unit shall not be adversely affected over the

27、altitude pressure range106.94kPa at457m(1500ft) to9.12kPa at+16760m(+55000ft). 5.2 Illumination 5.2.1 Endurance The light shall provide the output specified in5.2.3 and5.2.4 throughout the temperature ranges specified in5.1.1 for a continuous period of not less than8h. 5.2.2 Start-up times The outpu

28、t specified in5.2.3 and5.2.4 shall be obtained after the following immersion times. a) Reserve batteries 1) 5min in sea water at1 C; 2) 5min in sea water at+30 C; 3) 10min in fresh water at+20 C. b) Active batteries. Active batteries shall achieve the output specified in5.2.3 within5min of deploymen

29、t under all conditions. 5.2.3 Horizontal light output The horizontal light output with lens, when fitted, shall be a steady light providing a mean luminous intensity of0.75cd in the following planes: a) through2arcs in the horizontal plane each subtending150 minimum and with a maximum separation of3

30、0 (seeFigure 1); and b) over a10 uninterrupted are in the horizontal plane at the point of peak intensity and180 opposite, and which shall lie between0 and30 elevation (seeFigure 2). 5.2.4 Vertical light output The light with lens, when fitted, shall have a vertical luminous intensity of not less th

31、an0.5cd over a15 cone which shall lie within a30 cone symmetrically disposed about the vertical axis (seeFigure 3). 5.3 Storage life When tested in accordance with Appendix C, the storage life of the light unit in the unpacked state shall be as specified on the individual specification sheet (seeApp

32、endix A) from the date of manufacture. 6 Type approval 6.1 General requirements 6.1.1 Type approval of a light unit shall be in accordance with the tests given in Appendix B, Appendix C and Appendix D. The manufacturer shall demonstrate to the satisfaction of the approving authority 2)that the unit

36、5 6.1.2 Except for light units used in safety tests (seeAppendix D), units submitted for type approval testing shall be manufactured to the build standard defined in the individual specification sheet (seeAppendix A) and be representative of normal production in every way. 6.2 Type approval tests 6.

37、2.1 The number of light units subjected to type approval tests shall be in accordance with Appendix E. NOTE 1The approving authority will signify type approval of the light unit by the issue of the appropriate certification. NOTE 2The approving authority may, on a discretionary basis, grant an appro

38、val before the completion of the storage tests (seeAppendix C) on the basis of an appropriate technical submission. 6.2.2 Unless otherwise specified in a given test, all tests shall be carried out at ambient temperature, pressure and humidity. Where test parameters are specified, the values given sh

39、all be subject to the following tolerances: 6.2.3 The equipment used for the type approval tests shall, unless otherwise specified in a given test, have the following minimum degree of accuracy and a range appropriate to the quantity being measured: a) for thermometers, 1 C; b) for chronometers, 0.5

40、%for periods between10s and24h; c) for photometers,5%absolute; and d) voltmeters shall comply with class index0.3 of BS89. 6.2.4 Fresh water shall have a conductivity not greater than5004S. 6.2.5 Sea water shall be artificial sea water complying with BS3900-F4. 6.3 Maintenance of approval When appro

41、val has been granted, the design of the light unit shall be frozen and the drawings sealed. No change shall be made to the design without prior approval of the approving authority. 42、.BSG247-1:1992 6 BSI 01-2000 6.4 Preparation for test 6.4.1 Light units selected for test shall have been manufactured not less than4weeks and not more than12weeks prior to the commencement of testing and shall have been stored at a temperature of20 5 C during the intervening period. No cell or batt

43、ery shall be older than6months at the date of manufacture of the light unit. 6.4.2 Unless otherwise specified in a given test, light units shall be preconditioned at the temperature specified in the test for not less than16h and not more than24h prior to commencement of any test and the specified te

44、mperature shall be maintained throughout the test period. 7 Identification and marking The following information shall be clearly and indelibly marked on the light unit: a) the manufacturers name or trade mark; b) the manufacturers type or part number; c) the batch number or other means of identifyi

45、ng the unit; d) the date of manufacture and date of expiry; e) in block capitals, the words “CAUTION: DO NOT INCINERATE REFER TO INDIVIDUAL SPECIFICATION SHEET FOR DISPOSAL”; f) if the power source is a lithium battery, the words “LITHIUM BATTERY” in block capitals. 8 Quality assurance 8.1 Quality p

46、lan The manufacturer shall prepare a quality plan defining the procedures for the inspection of materials, components and completed assemblies in the course of manufacture of each specified light unit. The quality plan shall be agreed with the approving authority. 8.2 Quality control Light units sha

47、ll be subjected to tests under the following three categories. a) Category A 100%non-destructive tests to be applied to all light units produced. b) Category B Lot by lot sample tests to be applied to light units randomly selected from production lots prior to release. c) Category C Longer term test

48、s to be carried out after every tenth lot. The individual specification sheet (seeAppendix A) shall state which categories of tests are to be carried out on each type of light unit, the sample quantities required and the acceptable quality levels. 8.3 Records The manufacturer shall maintain records

49、which demonstrate the effective working of his quality control system. Inspection records shall include explicit identification of materials, components, complete units, test results, quantities approved or rejected and the nature of any corrective action taken. Records shall be retained and the manufacturer shall be prepared to make them available to the relevant approving authority.BSG247-1:1992 BSI 01-2000 7 Appendix A Individual specification sheet Individual specification sheets shall give the following informat
