25、lematicsStandard).GATSprovidesthemodularframeworkforimplementingsuchtraffictelematics servicesonanopentechnologyplatformandisnetworkindependent.Inmanydetailsdefinitionsare necessarytoensureinteroperability.Therefore,thosedetaileddefinitionsaregiveninCEN/TS148218.With thedevelopmentoffuturemobilecomm

26、unicationsystemstowardsUMTS/IMT2000thebottleneckof narrowbanddatacommunicationmightfade.Duetoitsmodularstructure,theGATSframeworkand applicationsarepreparedforthatduetoitsnetworkindependence.Thesameholdsforemerging technologiesforpositioningwhichtodayisalmostexclusivelybasedonGPS. Otherrelevantstand

27、arddevelopmentsare,independentfromtelematics,theapplicationindependent WirelessApplicationProtocol(WAP),enablingmobileaccesstotheInternet.Itisunderstoodthatthese emergingtechnologiesmightfitintotheframeworkoftelematicsapplicationsinfutureWAPversions.Forthe timebeing,GATSalreadytodayindependentlyfrom
