8、hnical Committee AUE/17, at the request of the Department of Transport and with the support of the Home Office and organizations connected with law enforcement, the motor vehicle construction industry and vehicle user organizations. This Part of BS AU 209 defines the performance and use of equipment

9、 intended to prevent or deter unauthorized entry into the load carrying area of goods vehicles. This Part of BS AU 209 does not represent a substitute for anti-burst latch test requirements for vehicle doors. It is considered that vehicles without a separate secure load compartment should not be use

10、d for the conveyance of goods of significant value or risk. The construction of a secure load compartment should be considered where a separate secure area for goods is required. It is considered that the load compartments of secure goods vehicles should be equipped with automatic locking facilities

11、, and dead locking facilities, that require minimum effort from the driver to achieve a satisfactory level of compartment security. It is considered that no part of a separate secure load compartment should be of glazed construction, nor should any hinges or vents be readily removable from the exter

12、ior. It is recognized that this standard covers a relatively new area not previously standardized, and that it may need to be amended if experience proves it necessary. Further Parts of BS AU 209, dealing with protection of external ancillary equipment, vehicle immobilization, etc., are intended. Ot

17、 1 Scope This Part of BS AU 209 specifies requirements for the performance of locking systems fitted to all closures through which access may be granted to secure load compartments of goods vehicles. It applies to goods vehicles with fully enclosed load carrying areas. This standard does not apply t

18、o vehicles that have been derived from passenger cars, tippers, flatbeds or livestock vehicles, open bodied or curtainsided vehicles, or vehicles that are constructed for specialist business sectors such as the transport of cash or securities. 2 References 2.1 Normative references This standard inco

Editions of these publications current at the time of issue of this standard are listed on the inside back cover, but reference should be made to the latest editions. 3 Definitions For the purpose of this Part of BS AU 209, the following definitions apply. 3.1

22、 goods vehicle Vehicle used for the carriage of goods, as defined in the European Community Directive 70/156/EEC: Category N1: Motor vehicles with at least four wheels used for the carriage of goods and having a maximum weight not exceeding 3.5 t. Category N2: Motor vehicles with at least four wheel

23、s used for the carriage of goods and having a maximum weight exceeding 3.5 t but not exceeding 12 t. Category N3: Motor vehicles with at least four wheels used for the carriage of goods and having a maximum weight exceeding 12 t. 3.2 load compartment That part of the vehicle which is specifically de

24、signed for the carriage of goods and the associated loading and restraining equipment. 3.3 load compartment lock A device that prevents the opening of a closure to the load carrying compartment and that can be activated externally only by use of a key (see also 6.2). 3.4 dead locking system A system

25、 that renders the interior and exterior controls of any closure inoperable other than by operation of the systems external lock(s). 3.5 key A device coded to operate a specific lock. 3.6 internal unlocking control A device located within the vehicle that releases a normally locked latch retaining a

26、closure to the load compartment. 3.7 freewheel The ability of a button or handle to move without releasing the latch. 4 Load compartment locks operated by mechanical key 4.1 A load compartment lock intended to be dead locked from outside the vehicle, using its own specifically coded key, shall confo

27、rm to annex A. 4.2 The lock and its key shall, after being tested in accordance with A.2, remain in effective specific combination. 4.3 After completion of the test in A.2, further manipulation of a minimum difference key for 1 min shall not unlock the assembly. 4.4 Keys shall not be permanently mar

28、ked with their key cutting code except on the tags designed to be removed by the user. Key code information shall not appear elsewhere on the vehicle or its equipment including handbooks, or on the lock. Key registration information is permissible, providing it is security protected. 4.5 The key loc

29、king system shall comprise not less than 1000 different key combinations for any one series of key combinations. 4.6 Load compartment locks incorporating tumblers shall have no more than two identical tumblers operating in the same direction positioned adjacent to each other. There shall be not more

30、 than 50 % of identical tumblers in a lock.2 BSI 1997 BS AU 209 : Part 8 : 1997 4.7 It shall not be possible to release the latch, or enable it to be released, by any of the following means: a) by rotating the lock cylinder within its housing or the housing within its mounting on the vehicle in acco

31、rdance with the following torque test procedure, using a tool, normally in the form of a key blank, and manufactured from high strength steel, hardened and tempered to a hardness on the Rockwell scale of HRC 48 to HRC 56 for the length of engagement of it into the lock plus a further 10 mm proud of

32、the lock face: 1) The tool shall be chosen of a size that can transmit the maximum possible torque to the lock cylinder but can also be inserted into the lock with an axial force not exceeding 600 N. 2) Insert the tool into the lock and apply an axial load of 600 N 10 N while applying an increasing

33、torque until one of the following occurs: i) the tool fails within 10 mm of the lock face; ii) the torque applied exceeds 100 Nm; or iii) it is not possible to achieve a torque of 100 Nm for other mechanical reasons. 3) Remove any easily removable parts and if the resulting key opening has been enla

34、rged then 2) shall be repeated once, using a larger tool that conforms to 1); b) by displacing the lock cylinder from its housing or the housing from its mounting on the vehicle or by distorting the body panel, using the following axial test procedures: 1) Tensile test Insert the largest size of hig

35、h quality steel self tapping screw, conforming to BS EN ISO 2702 : 1985, that can be screwed into the lock without breaking the screw or exceeding a torque of 100 Nm. Apply an increasing force along the axis of the screw in the tensile mode until one of the following occurs: i) the screw fails; ii)

36、the load applied exceeds 1200 N; or iii) it is not possible to achieve a load of 1200 N for other mechanical reasons. 2) Compressive test Apply an increasing force along the axis of the lock in the compressive mode until one of the following occurs: i) the load applied exceeds 1200 N; or ii) it is n

37、ot possible to achieve a load of 1200 N for other mechanical reasons; c) by displacing the lock cylinder from its housing or the housing from its mounting on the vehicle or by distorting the body panel in accordance with the following bending moment test procedure, using a tool, normally in the form

38、 of a key blank, and manufactured from high strength steel, hardened and tempered to a hardness on the Rockwell scale of HRC 48 to HRC 56 for a length of engagement of it into the lock plus a further 10 mm proud of the lock face: 1) The tool shall be chosen of a size that can transmit the maximum po

39、ssible bending moment to the lock cylinder yet can be inserted into the lock with an axial force not exceeding 600 N. 2) Insert the tool into the lock and apply an axial load of 600 N 10 N while applying a bending moment up to a maximum of 60 Nm but not exceeding the yield point of the tool, alterna

40、tely upwards and downwards for 20 cycles. Each cycle shall consist of the maximum bending moment applied upwards for at least 0.5 s followed by the maximum bending moment downwards applied for at least 0.5 s. Repeat the procedure using opposite directions in the horizontal plane using a new tool, lo

41、ck and closure. NOTE. At the discretion of the test authority a third plane may be chosen if it is judged to represent the worst case situation and a new tool, lock and closure used. 3) Remove any easily removable parts and if the resulting key opening has been enlarged then 2) shall be repeated onc

42、e, using a larger tool that conforms to 1). Where the mechanism is fractured or damaged as a result of compliance with a), b) or c), the mechanism shall be deemed to satisfy the requirements provided that entry into the vehicle cannot be subsequently achieved by releasing the latch via any resulting

43、 gap using a simple tool or by applying the test procedure in annex A. 5 Exterior release controls Exterior push buttons or handles shall either freewheel when in the locked state, or be so constructed that, when in the locked state and sufficient force is applied to cause fracture or strain, or to

44、produce the full operating movement of the release button or handle, such effect shall not permit entry into the vehicle. BSI 1997 3 BS AU 209 : Part 8 : 1997 6 Functional requirements 6.1 All closures to the load compartment shall be lockable. 6.2 All closures to the load compartment shall lock aut

45、omatically whenever the closure is in the fully closed position. 6.3 Closures that are not completely closed until latch engagement devices have been manually operated shall be automatically locked when complete action of engaging the devices has been carried out. 6.4 The lock release mechanism shal

46、l not be accessible by punching a hole in the door/body panel. 6.5 The dead lock mechanism shall have only two positions, unlocked and dead locked. 6.6 Dead locking shall only be possible from the exterior device operated by a specifically coded key. When the dead locking system is activated, either

47、 all closure controls shall freewheel, or it shall not be possible to release any latch by: a) application of a steady force of 300 N 10 N for 5 s minimum in any direction on the appropriate unlocking control; or b) if the control normally operates in a rotational movement, application of a steady t

48、orque of 50 Nm 3 Nm for 5 s minimum in each direction. Where a mechanism is fractured or damaged as a result of a) or b), the mechanism shall be deemed to conform to this Part of BS AU 209 provided that the latches have not been released. 6.7 Individual dead locked closures to the load compartment s

49、hall be unlocked only by the key for that closure. 6.8 It shall not be possible to actuate or deactuate any locking/release mechanism by application of a magnet or electromagnet. 7 Test conditions 7.1 For the tests specified in clause 6, a complete vehicle or representative portion thereof shall be provided for testing together with installation drawings of the system applicable to the vehicle.
