8、dustrial oils and related products. It is identical with ISO 6743-8:1987 “Lubricants, industrial oils and related products (class L) Classification Part8: Family R (Temporary protection against corrosion)”, published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO 6743-8 was prepare
9、d as a result of discussion in Subcommittee 4, Classifications and specifications, of Technical Committee 28, Petroleum products and lubricants, in which the UK participated. A general classification of petroleum products prepared in ISO/TC 28 has allocated class L to lubricants. BS 6413-0 details t
10、he subdivision of class L into families of products, to each of which a code letter is allocated. This Part provides a detailed classification within family R of class L. Further Parts of the International Standard will provide a detailed classification within other families of class L and will be p
11、ublished as further Parts of BS 6413. Terminology and conventions. The text of the International Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as a British Standard without deviation. Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those used in British Standards; attention

16、corrosion), which belongs to class L (Lubricants, industrial oils and related products). It should be read in conjunction with ISO 6743-0. This classification applies to categories of products which are assigned to ensure temporary protection against corrosion. It includes only those products the ma
17、in function of which is to ensure temporary protection, the word “temporary” being relevant not to time-limit product efficiency but to the capacity for removal of the product after a certain time. This classification excludes products that are applied for other purposes but also ensure temporary pr
18、otection. Vapour-phase inhibitors and other chemical products that differ from petroleum products in behaviour are also excluded. This classification applies to protection of both bare metals and coated metals (painted metallic surfaces, car bodies, etc.). In addition, corrosion is regarded as deter

20、of family R has been established by defining the categories of products required for the main applications of temporary protection against corrosion, in relation with duty conditions (see the Annex) and nature of the protecting film. 3.2 Each category is designated by a symbol consisting of a group
